Hi runners,

Some of you may have heard rumours of a trail running magazine project in gestation. Early days, but the rumours are true. We're looking at establishing Australasia's first trail running specific magazine.

We're no Rupert Murdochs (actually just a couple of lads who love the trail), so at this early stage we're talking an online , possible flip book edition only. But we'll see...

In the meantime we're happy to have a real grassroots beginning - matches our ethos. But what we publish will be high quality, nevertheless. Packed full of features, news, images, reviews, events and gossip...

Anyway, we need to gauge how many of you may be interested in going wild, getting off road and wanting to read about it.

So, we've started a Facebook page to begin with:

http://www.facebook....172967106065428

We'd love for those of you who have a FB profile to click on the link and like us, so we know we'd have some readers! You'll also then be hooked into the latest news on the trail running scene via Facebook.

We're currently looking to a first trail edition, available free to all and sundry, in May.

So, if you're interested, Like us on FB and perhaps to be sure, fling us an email (contact below) to register your interest. We'll only use your email to contact you regarding the new e-magazine. Nada else.

And if you have any ideas, thoughts, feedback on the viability of our little project, we'd love you to comment here in the forum and/or answer the poll questions.

Cheers for reading,

Chris Ord (Editor) and Stu Gibson (Co-editor)

Welcome to CR Chris and Stu. As someone already immersed in the Australian trail running scene I am looking forward to some home-grown commentary, reviews, advice, articles, reports and general aussie-trailrunning information.

Love your work.

You might even persuade me to join FB.

Hi there, and welcome!

Interested in a Magazine? In short: YES!

I already "like" the FB page and enjoy the updates, even though I'm not a fully fledged trail runner just yet - some of my training runs are on trails.

I voted $0 for the online subscription, but that's not absolute - it's only because I'm not sure about the idea of an online magazine. Certainly, if the content was good, I'd consider paying in future.

I've only ever traditionally subscribed to "paper" magazines - and am happy to pay for these because you have something tangible that you can collect - but I understand the logistics/cost issues with running a print magazine as opposed to online.

Regardless, it's really good to have a body who's promoting trail running! We definitely need more of it!

Sounds interesting guys. This might even be what it takes to finally convince me to sign up to facebook (perhaps).
Not much of a trail runner at the moment, but always open to new information.

That's a great idea - I subscribe to the US Trailrunner - it has great content but reading about their races (and coping with things like bears!) isn't really relevant to us.

I would be very happy to see this become a successful publication.

I was gifted a US Trailrunner sub for my birthday last year and I love it, but it is frustrating reading about all those great events O/S so I would be very keen on something with local content.

Best wishes

Hi TrailPuddin!

Absolutely - especially in terms of run guides - we'll have at least five per edition, according to a pro forma we're developing to hand out to roving reporters!  Will be in touch.
Also, any strong story angles/imagery you have or come across - always welcome to pitch! Or news reports etc.

First edition material due in by end of April, so let me know.

Cheers,

Chris Ord

HI PinkDrinkinPony,

Happy for any assistance - as a grassroots project, we're goingt to need it!

So let me know what you can pitch to us in terms of imagery, stories, news, angles for features etc.  As per my post to TrailPuddin, we'll also have a trail pro forma for reporters to fill in, for our guide series. More info on that soon.

In the image stakes we plan on having a final page called THE SWEEP - a high quality image of the final competitor over the line (not that actual sweep, but the last person runner over the line) with a few short details - name, age, time, occupation, final quote....

So that's one to keep in mind whenever at an event. The image needs to be a beautiful portrait though! Well, a sweaty, character filled one, anyway, preferably with short depyth of field (ie background all blurry, or f stop a low number!).

Any ideas or images or stories, trailrunmag@gmail.com

Cheers appreciate your interest and any efforts in helping!
