Had a thoroughly great time at this years 2011 Sydney Half Marathon... Trained with the magic 85 minutes in mind to make the preferred group of starters... Imagine my joy at finishing in 82.35 minutes (a surprise to myself) only to have the rug swiftly pulled from beneath me. Getting home I checked future Herald runs (City2surf) etc, to see the times had been significantly reduced. Not by 1 or 2, but 3 minutes.... gutted!! 35 second!!! Why such a big change? oh well back to the drawing board..

I was under the impression that I needed an 80 flat. Was a tad dissapointed as ran 80.06 to then realise that it had moved out to 82.00 made me very happy. So many changes do make it hard to keep up. Next year you will nail it. Obviously you are aware that 55.00 (in from 56) in C2S will also get you preferred start for next year. Your SMH time indicates you are very capable of this from SH1

The times are a bit confusing between the two races.
If you ran a sub 85 (male) at SMH you still get a preferred start for next year at SMH half which is good.
But you need to run a sub 82 half at SMH or a sub 55 C2S from the last 2 years or send in a pleading email to get the C2S preferred. Doesn't line up between the two. But a lot more people(500) want preferred at C2S than SMH(200?).

The sub 82min was an unwritten one until they put it up this year on the website. I have been running C2S since 2002 which I did no training for and ran 93. So this year I finally will get a preferred start.

With the 82:35 I would send an email about getting preferred as it is only 35 secs and is 82:xx. But do it today so you can go online tomorrow to do the entry.
