Does anyone have any GPS maps i can load into handheld satnav for the entire GNW 250 - my navigational skills are poor to say the least.

Im keen to run/walk as much of the GNW250 as possible at some point in the near future.

I intend to start at the official point and finish when I get to my house in Greenwich (if i even make it that far) - nearest bush exit would presumably be Lane Cove.

Plan is to go up to Newcastle after work one Friday and be totally self sufficient and finish around 10pm on Sunday night wherever that may be.

Offer is open for anyone to join - as yet this is all just a plan i have to keep life interesting.

The only way you will make Greenwich unsupported in 48 hours is by starting at the Sydney end.

Just reaching Brooklyn self-supported in that time would be an honest effort.

How do you anticipate doing Patonga to Brooklyn? You could do a Tressider.

Ian, speak to us... Vizey and Darrel, along with Terry have the 'record'... (66 hours)... it's a tough old slog (Spud and Whippet will testify to that too), and self-supported is even tougher too.

If you're going to put some effort into doing this, I'd do it properly... there are stretches where you could go for 60kms without any access to food or proper water e.g. Congewai School, through to Yarramalong and even then you could pass through their at night and the shop would be closed. Of course there are ways and means around this, but always happy to chat.

As Paul says, you need to get a ferry from Patonga, or hop in car, or wrestle a shark as you swim from Patonga to Brooklyn Tressider styley...

Yep tough old slog it is, albeit a damn sight easier in this cooler weather than race weekend in November (when Whippet and I made our attempt) :)
Get some crew/support Ian and make a real go of it. I have plans to get back there in the future and have a crack at 60hrs.
Might have to be a solo effort though now my wingman is out of action  :sorry:
Let us know how you go..

Ian,I think in 48 hours you will get through a fair bit of the track. If you work it right you can do fairly well without support, mighty need a couple of water drops but all doable.Should be able to help you with some stuff

Spud 60 hours is a bit soft for you.I was going to do it againg in 59 hours and 59 minutes.

thanks for the response guys.

yeah look 48hrs i dont expect to go the whole distance, jut keen to see what i can do on a weekend when i have nothing else planned.

crossing from patonga to brooklyn i had envisaged getting a a ferry -  so i guess not entirely unsupported but thats not really an issue.

i had planned on taking a water purifier to save on water drops - but again im not aware of water points along the way. something i need to explore.

will definitely have a chat to ultra168 about this. its all good fun and not designed to be a serious attempt at anything spectacular. just a little weekend adventure.

Ian go for it.  I'll happily put some waterdrops out at the northern end and I sure someone can do the same at the southern end. 48 hours at ridiculously slow pace gets you from Newc to Patonga Beach. I was at Patgona the other day and noticed there is a water taxi service.  The hardest navigation is getting off the beach at Leggies in Newc and then across the plateaus after Mooney - particularly when doing that bit at night. The rest is well signposted if you stay alert and do yourself a bit of post-touching.

Have a great time!  Let me know the dates and I'll join you for some bits.

Good Luck Ian...I am sure you will put in a great effort.

TP - thank goodness you added the post-touching advice, most important bit!

Yes, the only way to find out is to try.  If you need some drops, etc, from newcastle to say Yarramalong - let us know, i am always on the trail there somewhere.  The trail off the beach at Glenrock (not quite Leggies - that is another 500m south) can be tricky as it is not signposted but can meet you there if right time.

I suppose you could time the run to match the shop hours at Yarramolong and Somersby but pretty mcuh unsupported between.

Good luck.

Spud...I'm no speedy Whippet but if you're considering getting a crew together in the future let me know as I'd love to be part of it.

Sounds like quite a few people interested in this... how about a race? Teams of 2-3... bit like Trailwalker, but minus the hand holding and checkpoints. Maybe we could all talk about it on the gland sram thread, and just talk and talk and talk and talk about it... anybody actually going to have a crack?

"Trust me I'm a local!  This is the right trail. Follow me I run this every day."
Chelbub, 7.30am day 1.  It was the wrong trail.

Is crazed giggling and spontaneously bursting into tears banned as well? This could be a tough one. Where will we be starting from?

Ian I know you were looking for this to be very unstructured, but if you decide on dates I may be able to do some support if needed. Food at Patonga, water elsewhere, whatever. I'll watch the thread with interest.

I'd give it a crack - Northern beaches team would be firing for the first 25km give or take a few km
