Hi,

I was hoping to get some feedback on appropriate watches for my partners birthday. I'm looking at all the different models but just getting myself confused

I'd like one that tracks distance as he seems to enjoy mapping out his runs and where he has been, distance etc. I was looking at the new Garmin but wondered how that would function as an everyday watch also?

So I guess criteria would be

HRM
distance / gps?
can be used as his everyday watch also
reliable

Any thoughts or ones I should avoid would be great. I was going to buy online - probably Highly Tune Athletes?

Thanks :)

You answered your own question there.  Definitely give HTA a call.  They will advise and are very good at support and warranty assistance when required.

I am guessing that as you are looking for an everyday watch that doubles as a running watch the Garmin 610 will be the first choice.  But there are alsos products in the other ranges that will do the jop (eg Polar).

BRP,

First thoughts, I would suggest Garmin 610, or also the Garmin 410.

You are welcome to call us to discuss in detail. Contact details below.

Also keep in mind that a good fitness computer will often not make for a good everyday watch and vice versa. So it may be best to not get too specific on wanting it to function as an everyday watch as well.

Cheers

Rob

BRP,
Being a typical boy who are that cautious with my stuff, I really enjoy my 310XT
It has a longer battery life (up to 20hours)  and has a more traditional selection set up (buttons) unlikely the new 401 or 610 (touch screen) and both which less than 10 hours of usage time.

Do thnk about the 310XT with HRM function.
What about POLAR you say? (can use it to
a) time/date yada yada
B) gps
c)HRM

You would need to a) buy additional foot pot for the GPS pace function to be usable, or buy a really highend one with build in gps (which will be much much more expenseive than Garmin)

A day to day watch and a seperate training watch will pro-long the use of the 'training tool."

Best thing, call Rob @ HTA - Buy locally, you get local warrenty/HTA support.

My choice

(buy a $100 polar and a 310Xt!)

for the items that you've mentioned the Garmin 110 should fit the purpose....go to HTA - they're awesome and will do you a deal :)

and forget these toys for everyday, get him something that will last forever, a Longines with white face, black leather strap - don't think Rob stocks these though
