I loved it last year so I included it in the roster of events for the Sports Club I got work to fund.

Was promoting our events at the company meeting last night and mentioned this one.

After the description I suddenly had one bright spark saying he was putting together a Hounds team to come and get me!

(I run the solo\Hares run)

Whoever slaps me on the ass and passes me gets a bottle of wild turkey.

;)

Anyone else joining up?

Hey CB, Hopefully I will see you there.  This is one of my fav events.  This year was one of the most fun events ever, the start of "the flood" rains, storms heavy, heavy rain, flooded creeks - just a blast from start to finish.

BTW as a Hare/solo if I smack your ass and pass you in the first 50m or so from the pool/ start do I still get the Wild Turkey??? :drinks:  :drinks:

No Keith, you'll just get his phone number.

No H&H for me in January, I'll be RD this year, on the day.  Despite any appearance to the contrary, Mr Javes will still be the guy doing all the work to put it on.

word of advice.
never use the words turkey and slap in the same sentence.
can lead to confusion.
enjoy the run.

When I said last year I meant this year - the water\rain was awesome.  May be somewhat hotter this year ...

Is the course going back to the way it has been doing the big loop around Beerburrum, or is it still planned as an out-and-back along the north side of Caves Road and the path along highway?

I've been reading the fine print...and am a bit confused.

I think that not all of the checkpoints are manned, especially for the hounds. Can I expect to be able to refill my water bottle at all of the checkpoints as a hound (and potentially as a late hound)?

For my brother in law, who really likes uphills, would he be better off running W to B or B to W, or is it much of a muchness?

You are correct in that not every checkpoint is manned, I believe, but usually it states which ones have drinks and food.

B to W is the uphill run as you have to go up the range.

Hi there

All checkpoints will be manned for most of the race (Hares may pass through CP7 on the way out before setup - to be confirmed).  You will be water, etc. at each one.

You may be confusing the the interchanges with checkpoints, one of which (interchange 1) is located on the Beerburrum Woodford Road en route from CP7 to CP6 and back.  The reason for this being that this location is more easily accessible to teams/support crew.

Much more to follow.

Thanks

Alun

By the way, the start is at 141m above sea level and CP3a at 43m :)

Thanks Andy and Alun,
I hope to share the run with my brother in law. When I say that he likes hills, I may be overstating the case. What I probably mean is that he is a much more experienced campaigner and has no qualms whatsoever about walking up hills. I am less experienced and therefore less sensible. With a bit more wrangling at home, we should be able to come. I look forward to putting a few more faces to avatars.
cheers, Andy

I've been looking at the 5km results for the last couple of years and they seem to be a bit slower than I would have thought - the winner finished in 22mins both years. In fact, the majority came in after more than 30mins. Is there any reason for the slower times or is it just because the trails slow people down a bit? Or perhaps the faster runners go for the 10+km races?

Yes, the trail will slow you down a bit and the course is undulating.

Well, we're in for a 2 man relay. I'm also fronting up for the Mt Glorious run the next month, so the smart thing to do in the longer term is probably to suck it up and run the B to W leg. The combination of running later in the morning and with more uphill is likely to make that leg substantially harder. I may feel less noble as the event gets closer...

A little bit of rain for the last race would have slowed the times.

Hey guys, as most of you know my gorgeous wife Carol is getting back up to distance after an operation. 50ks at Hounds and Hares is probably too much too soon so she is looking for a partner to be a hound team (relay) - any one interested please message me. :friends:

Not sure why, but some entrants seem to be fixated with the elevation of the course.  Well, no 50 km is 'easy' but in comparison to some events this one is still a baby.

Anyway, I've zipped up some elevation images for each section here (excuse the return from CP6 to CP7 (on the way home), but I ran in the wrong way.  I've flipped the image over, but you'll get the idea.

Absolutely Alun, you only have to look at the past results to see this. Just one questin, is it 50k or 55k? I've seen a few variations

Will be doing this one with Flying Emu and hopefully one or two others as a slow training run. Def my longest to date since Cabolture and injury so expecting 6 hrs plus but will be fun

Just a reminder that the limit for this event is 200 and entries close on Jan 3 ( OR BEFORE IF THE LIMIT IS EXCEEDED ). At present there are 130 entered with about 50 in the 54km event. Latest Information will be emailed out to entrants in the next week. Alun Davies is the on the day Race Director with assistance from Bruce Cook and Mandy-lee Noble. Ann Raftery will organise the after run BBQ this year. Last year I didn't get to run(?walk ) in any event but this year I am hoping to take part in one run at each event thus handing over on the day Race Directing to someone else. If I can get fit enough my intention is to attempt to complete the 100 mile in September as I will turn 70 just before it.
We are still short of a few helpers so if you have family or friens or can help out yourself then contact Alun or myself ( ijaves@caloundra.net ).
With the increase in the number taking poart in the 54km event it is hoped that relay teams with support vehicles will look after their own runners as far as food and fluid is concerned as this would relieve the pressure on checkpoint volunteers.Remember that checkpoints will not place out cups of water so water bottles or hydration packs are mandatory in the longer events. There will be no checkpoint on the 5km course.

Sorry if this is a silly question:
Is the 10km just 2 loops of the 5km course?
Does anyone know how much elevation is involved?

The Register Now list doesn't show the postal entries. With entries closed there are 217 entered. ( 62 in 54k; 77 in relay teams and 78 in 5/10k ). Usually there are 5-7% no shows on the day. The message is don't leave it to the last minute to enter trail events conducted by TRAQ.

Hey Wardy! Are you still offering a car pool ?? Do you still have spaces? We're out your way and would love to take you up on your offer if it's still there.
How many seats do you have left in your car?

Forecast for Sunday is in the low 30's which is going to feel a lot higher when exposed - humidity 64% dropping to 55%.  UV risk is extreme (with 0 chance of frost apparently!).

You should already be hydrating and if you're not then start.  If you leave it until tomorrow to start throwing fluids down your neck you'll just fill your belly and bladder.

Going to be a tough day for some I think ... there's no such thing as an easy 50km.

Thanks for the heads-up Alun, I'm really looking forward to the race, I've done 3x Glasshouse runs but never done the H & H. Glad I got in as I left it quite late to enter. Is it too late to start training now?   :shok:

I agree whole heartedly with Alun. It is going to be the opposite to last year where we had cool and very wet conditions. Quite hot and fairly humid this year. Those out there after 8 or 9am will feel the heat. Hydrate well early as Alun says and don't push as hard as you might in cool weather. There are no sheep stations on this event. Peter Boardmen ( sports trainer ) who we use at most Glasshouse events will be at the turnaround point ( 3a )and will visit checkpoints 4a and 6 on his way back to the pool.
Charlie Hall and partner Deb will be with Peter at 3a and will sweep after the last runner. Walter Brumniach and Lisa Spink who have both done the 100 miles at Glasshouse will be at 4a. Chpt 6 will be looked after by Julie Ellett and Matthew Welch who are fairly new to the game and Chpt 7 is looked after by Active Stride people. Alun and I will be roving around to assist where necessary on the course or at base.
At base we will have Bruce Cook, Mandy-lee Noble and Ann, Joe and Lauren Raftery plus a few others.
Don't forget to thank all these helpers who make these events possible.

Thanks Ian.  Let me start the process here and now (to be repeated in person on the day).  Thanks to you, Alun all the marvellous folk that you mentioed by name as well as others that may have been missed.  Without such a great team we, the runners, would not have an event to enjoy.  Thanks seems a lame word to express the extent of my gratitude.  :im Not Worthy: :im Not Worthy:

Good to see the results up so quickly and a fairly solid time for my team. Congrats to all the organisers and runners,  especially the 54km machines!

My first ever trail run - thanks for a great event.

I was one of those silly souls that veered SE at the top of the crest 1km out from the finish and added another 8km to my run!!! In my defence I was still following the arrows and tape as stated in the briefing.

From what I can deduce from my Garmin times it cost me fifth spot overall.

Still had a great day - thanks again
