The organisor's moved the date so that it wouldn't clash with any other race and I believe it's sandwiched between World Champs and Noosa, in the hope of attracting some internationals in between races

Will try to keep in front of WallyGtor, who hasn't stopped training from last year.
KB, is another I will try to beat over the line. Only just finished in front of her in the last couple of hundred metres via the ladies handicap system.
There will be a couple of extra CoolRunners competing this year.
Great event not to be missed if you can help it.

Will try to keep in front of Thomo who is going great guns in the running dept. I am training only for 10k runs and general fitness at the moment. Any swimming and 38k bike rides are purely social, even if on my own.

Me: "I think I might enter the Nepean Triathlon in October."
Lengthy pause...
Partner: "I think you'll do ok in the swim."
And the sad thing is she's probably right. I'm 7 days into my third broken bone in 9 months and I should probably at least run a 10km before I enter a tri. :-/

Conversation with Gadfly - " I think it's a great idea....and I recall a conversation probably 2 years ago, running around the bay, saying that I'm sure you'll get into tri's"........go for it!!!!! (but rest the broken bone a little longer first..)

I'm in too.
Any other CRs in for this?

Began my taper quite awhile ago.
Only problem, I have only had one swim in at least they last 6 months, which was last month or the month before. That might be an issue.
Bike and run / walk I can manage, slow but steady. But if I don't get through swim it is all over red rover.
Hope others have been more diligent.

I hope us old farts get to start in the 3rd group again. That is the only way I will finish in front of any-one.
Been swimming, cycling and running for 2 months incl. a 3km swim in squads last week, but also been eating daily muffins and chocolate, so there has been no improvement and probably behind where I was last year. Still have an ambitious aim to be in front of Thomo at the end of the bike leg this year. Thus if he catches me like last year, I will expend all remaining energy to get back in front even if it means a 10k walk.

Hopefully the water will be warm enough not to be a game changer. Lucky I have beefed up for insulation.
There are going to be a few CoolRunner's newbies out there.
KGold, Photogirl to name a couple. You guys will smash it.
We always have a CoolRunning catch up. So make sure you say hello to your fellow CoolRunners.

Another tip for first timers is the car entry in to the Regatta centre closes at 6:30 and this was strctly enforced last year..so early start for all!
Good luck to all Coolrunners!!!

No doubt the water temp will be up 2-3 degrees after everybody gets in and rids themselves of a little nervous pee pee.
Sambullant your money is safe our reigning Olympic distance world champ has decided she will rest up and spectate on the day. So we at least will have one less girl to be chicked by.

How did people go? B+ did a smokin' time...first in age group I believe...if I have correctly identified the man behind the Coolrunning name that is.
I was happy with a 3rd in age group...getting easier to attain that the older I get..the numbers keep dropping off in the old fogey age groups.

It was a great meeting of CoolRunners.
So many wetsuits out there. Water was lovely, happy to of swam without one. Did have my inbuilt buoyancy to assist.
The 1st timers like Photogirl were outstanding.
TheLogicDump and family would of been up there as 1st mum, dad and son to finish.
Brewer, Plu, Ratdog, Wallygator, KB, Stem & co always happy to offer a gentle or fun cheer or gee up.
Thanks to spectators like KiwiShaz & Fast Bob (Queenslander) cheering the CoolRunners.
Till next year.
The organisers know how to put an event on.

Got to agree with your post about the race, although I am biased as a Panther and several of my mates are the race committee.
Yep finally got up for a win in my age after a few years of close but no cigar. Good time too for me a tick over 1hr40 haven't been that quick for a while so training with the girls has proved to be a masterstroke for me.
Big congrates to Mighty Mouse on 4th in the Female open after many years away from triathlon to concentrate on her running. But she's back now and looking good.

Great to catch up with so many coolrunners. Well done Wallygator in keeping ahead of Thomo
Top race by brewer, well done.
TheLogicDump absolutely smashed it! Awesome result, I guess trainings going OK.
Good on Photogirl for her first tri. Another great CR result.
Good to catch up to all the other CR's out there today
A realy well run event, the organisers do a brilliant job.

Went into it a bit apprehensive, especially about the temperature. Shouldn't have worried. After a few metres in the water I was quite comfortable. The 1500m swim leg was better than I thought it would be. I know it should have been 1000m but I can't seem to swim in a straight line. Even scored a 'falcon' off one of the lane marker buoys. Must try to find that 'line' under the water that people were talking about if I do it again next year.
Transition to the bike leg was good. Ran the whole way to the bike (just about crawled after the only other tri I'd done, which was about 1/4 the distance of today's race). Confused for a few seconds as my bag was missing, but saw a heap of bags in a holding area so figured it was there. Glad I didn't leave my gels in the bag. Bike leg was good as well, although pretty lonely on the second lap, given that I'm not very fast and started in the last group.
Transition to the run went smoothly. Now we're talking; this I can do. Headed off a little too fast, but remembered Brewer's comment that the 10k run is like the second half of a HM. Paced myself accordingly, and found myself 'in the zone' and getting faster from about 7k. Came home with a 52:35 and a strong sub-5:00 last km. Thanks for that, Brewer.
As always, great to catch up with other CRs out there and even managed to wheeze out a "GCR" from on the bike.
Thanks to the organisers, volunteers and other competitors for a great day.
Oh, and 2:27:35 is the official score. I'm stoked with that; better than I thought I could do.

My major goal for the day was to go Sub 2 hours. Last year I finished in just over 2h 10m and my race times in both tri & running have dropped progressively since then. I managed to finish in 1h 56m 53s for a ~14m PB

I think that was me. My mind only registered who it was after you had passed. Congrats on your time.
This is the 3rd year in a row for me and also my 3rd triathalon. Maybe if I did a few more I would get better at it. I was happy with my effort yesterday. 24:17 for the swim is 1 sec slower than my best and 2 sec faster than last year. Coach says I need to kick more, so I did that but I felt it on the bike. The quads were straining from the start. I enjoyed the bends in the industrial area and due to leaning off the side of the bike I was able to pedal through every corner and actually passed a few who had passed me on the straight bits. They soon passed me again though. I am wrapped with 1:11:54 as it is 2 mins quicker than last year and I felt I spent a heap more time in T1 so actual riding time may be even better. After a 54:45 10k at SMC last weekend, 1:07:30 for the run was very slow and 3mins slower than last year. I had no energy in the first lap and felt better in the second - probably because I took it easier. Gels seemed to do the trick for the 2nd lap, but had no effect on lap 1. The last 2 years I did this coming off training for the Sydney Marathon. So the lesson is to do more long stuff - probably runs.
Overall 2:43:41, 49sec slower than last year, but I am quite happy with that. A great day out and great to catch up with the usual suspects.
