Hi coolrunning people!

Just checking if any of you is heading to Italy in March/April 2012 and would like to join me for a run while there.

My name is Luca Turrini, I was born in Italy and I’ve been living in Sydney for the past 3 years (and planning to stay much longer immigration permitting!). March this year I will head home to take on a big challenge for a worthy cause.

I’ll attempt to run one marathon in each of the Twenty Italian regions in only Twenty-nine days. The aim is to raise $50 000 for cancer research and also to boost awareness and promote prevention of an illness that effects everybody in some way.  The money raised will go to Cancer Council NSW.

The driver for undertaking this massive challenge is something, unfortunately, common to many people. Few months ago I lost a family member after a short and devastating battle with pancreatic cancer. Other close friends are currently fighting against the disease. It is the grief and anger from these events that have spurred me on to do my part on the battle against cancer.

So my journey will start on Sunday March 18 with the Rome Marathon. It will finish with the Milan Marathon on Sunday April 15. Rain hail or shine, for five days a week I will begin at 7.30am and run at least 42.2 km, the valid length of a full marathon.
The course will touch on every region in Italy and cover 844 km. The full list of the runs can be found on my website here

So, is anyone heading down to Italy around that time and would like to join me for a few Km? Rome is supposed to be one of the top 10 best marathon races in the world!

I can be found training most mornings around Sydney suburbs and contributing a few kilometers of companionship is very welcomed. Plus it is a great excuse to get out and stay in shape during the festive season

As you may expect, I am promoting my fundraiser that can be accessed via the “Donate Here” button on my website www.outruncancer.com. All donations will be directly benefitting the Cancer Council NSW.
Anyone who is affected by cancer understands the amazing work undertaken by the Cancer Council. Every dollar is embraced and brings us all closer to understanding this disease.

I am leaving my web details if anyone would like to get in touch. I am not a good blogger but I am trying to update my website and facebook page regularly.

Ciao Luca,

Yes - I will be in Italy from the 26th March to May 5, I'll be in Trieste from the 26th March until about 9th April and then Brescia for 5 days before I get to Catania for 2 weeks and finish up in Rome end of April. If the dates match where you'll be - I'd be happy to try and get a run in. I'll try and call you tomorrow (and yes - Iam Italian....)

Just had a look at the website and the closest one based on the dates is Verona however I may be in the alps on that datea (Ponte di Legno).

I'll let you know once my wife's family have sorted out when where and how.... Would love to run one in the old country - was eyeing off the European Marathon as it ends in trieste but can't stay that long. And BTW - it is Friuli Venezia Giulia and not Friuli (we VG's get very upset when we get left off lol).....

Ciao Bobbys!

good to hear there is at least another Italian in the Forum. First of all, apologies.. the abbreviation for Friuli Venezia Giulia was only due to space constraints. I will fix it right-away!

If you are around, it would be great to run together in Italy. The run in Verona should be good fun as it's planned in my own town. So plenty of supporters and runners coming along.
And I am so looking forward to all the carbo-loads ! :)

As we both live in Sydney, if you fancy going for a run one of these days, drop me an email or give me a call!

Cheers
L
