Well that was a shock....although the course by my garmin was only 9.9km i finished in 35.05.  I reckon I need to allow 30sec extra to get it to a realistic 10k time so a likely 30sec pb and very happy with where I am at on the training setbacks I have had :-). pretty stoked.

That is a great result, I dream of running that quick!!  Well done looks like despite your set backs all the hard work is really paying off.  Maybe that is the secret and it is time for me to start doing a bit more hard work!!! :Raised Eyebrow:

Thanks guys, it's really good to know that the cold early morning's are paying off.  The scales are really starting to show some improvement as well so sticking hard on the diet and training hard is hopefully going to see my first goal ticked off in 5 weeks at gold coast.  Before this weekend I thought I had no chance at all too achieve my goal of sub35 10k at gold coast but It is looking alot more realistic now after Sundays result :)

Haven't checked in here for a while. My working hours changed quite markedly from January this year as I took on a new management role, and could not do my usual early morning run. I have never been an afternoon runner, and it's taken some time for my body to adjust to being comfortable with running in the afternoon or evening. My mainstay in the past few months has been my long run/s on the weekend.

So for several months there was no movement on the weight loss front, but at least the weight was staying stable.

Now with long runs on the past weekends of 23km, 25km, 30km, and 35km, things are starting to change and the kgs are coming off.

Still an hourglass figure...will never have a 'runner's body' as such, but definitely trimmer than the photo at left (at my heaviest in Jan).

With more long runs coming up over the next few months (aiming for the Centennial Park 50 in September), I am hoping to continue to trim down.

Ninjette, welcome back, good effort with your long runs and at least you kept the kgs consistent and didn't put on weight (nothing wrong with an hourglass figure either by the way!).  I rekon with the increases in KM's you've been doing you should deff see a reduction over the coming weeks.  Keep up the good work.

I had a bit of an indulge tonight with some ice cream and popcorn (not together) BUT today I also surpased 100km in my training week which is Saturday to Thursday.  So I figure it shouldnt make too much difference.  God bring on gold coast, all I seem to be doing is running! Can't wait to have a few days break and let my hair down.

I've had a bit of an indulge for the past week. A long weekend away with friends and my Birthday have all culminated in too much food and booze. Expecting a negative result this week.

On the plus side I just signed up for dry July and have been given a pretty solid training schedule for the next 8 weeks for the city to surf so hoping to make my goal weight by the end of July.

Good luck on the GC UF!!

Haven't been on here for a while and have to confess to dramatically dropping off my running.  Couple of bouts of man flu passed on by my children and a large dose of being lazy have kept me in bed way too much.  Got in a lazy 12km this morning as a first step to getting back into it but need to be more consistent.  What do you guys do to keep you getting up every morning especialyl when its cold and wet  ??

I run to a plan. Then there's no decision, only execution.  If you have to decide to run every day, it's only a matter of time before you decide not to. At least that's how my brain works.

Yeah I have a set plan someone set for me so I feel I have to do it. Which I do, for myself more than anyone but you kinda wanna make sure you do it for them too. A bit of friendly pressure.

Still struggling with the weight, around 73. Doing dry July at the moment so hoping that changes soon!!

How is is everyone going ?  I had three dry months from April to July which really helped with keeping the weight down and then made up for it on holiday in Bali 2 weeks ago.  Luckily only added about 2 kgs so not too much hard work needed to drop that.  I have been pretty good with running and going to the gym sincer getting back from holiday, but I think it is time for me to create a new running plan to drive some consistency back into the training.

Hope you are all still working hard.

I had a good month in July with no booze and a decent diet. I really think as I get toward the last few kg's till my target that I need to be super strict with my diet to get results. What was losing me weight before just doesn't do it now.

A bit sore after the C2S so having a few days off but back into it by the weekend :)

Not too bad, I did 66:50 which was my initial aim but thought I really should do better. That's spurred me on for the next run though :)

Time to rejoin this thread....

I was going well for a while there, then had a week off before my second marathon, and it's now getting on for two weeks after the marathon without any running (combination of work pressures, illness, uninspiring weather, and general lethargy).

I need to start running again! Feeling uncomfortably tubby....

I've signed up for Running Wild Season 3 and two 50km ultras (my first ones), so it's time to get serious....

Funny how just adding an update on here can start to get you motivated again.  Its so good to hear others are doing well and getting in the training, deff makes me want to stop making excuses and stick to a plan.

Yes, TLTL, you are inspiring us!

Did an hour of interval training last night, first run in two weeks. So hopefully the start of a new spring season training program...

Not sure I am in  state to inspire anyone but if my ramblings on here help to get anyone out the door even if its just me then has to be worth it.

I have run 2 mornings this week as well as a strength session in the gym, also decided to walk the 12 flights of stairs to the office every day.  Was going really well until the delayed onset muscle sorness kicked in!!!  Tried to get out of bed to run this morning but looked like at 80 year old hobbling to the bathroom, decided to give it a miss and rest up for a run at the weekend.

Sounds like good pain to me :) I kinda like muscle soreness, means you're getting back into it, the only better feeling is when you work hard and don't get sore any more :)

LOL I know what you mean about the good soreness, it did kinda feel good to know I had out in some effort,  Legs were still pretty sore over the weekend so left off the running and went to the gym instead (didn't train legs of course).  Got up and went for a lazy 7km run this morning which felt pretty good.

I weighed in on Friday. 73kg on the dot. Unfortunately had a pretty bad weekend diet wise so will need to pull myself into line this week.

Hi all

Good to be back in this thread!  I have had a tough year, with a crook knee and a car accident, but the good news is I did my first half at Mudgee on the weekend.  Did a 1:54 which is a pretty decent effort for me and I pulled up well.  It was just a joy to be out there having a run, mostly pain free and with the other runners.  Beautiful weather helps too!

Makes you want to do more!

I am at 72.6 kg, and if I got to 72 or below I would be very happy. The last little bit takes awhile.

Best wishes to all....keep going!

Welcome back turtle glad to hear after a few problems you are back running and enjoying it.  1:54 is a great effort and only 600grams to go that is barely a parma and a pint.

Nice one turtle! Hope you keep at it as planned and can also lose that last little amount. That's about where I'm at, the last 2 kg's or a little more, it's so hard to lose!

How has everyone been going, my training has been much more consistent over the last few weeks with 3 runs each week and 2 gym sessions. Going to increase to 4 runs a week from this week.  Not training for anything specific at the moment but just enjoying running with a mate and maintaining my base.  Hope you are all still going well and haven't fallen off the wagon.

Thought I might just post here and say hi.

I finally got around to losing my post-baby weight last year, only to slowly add it back on in the first half of this year. This thread encouraged me to pull my finger out and I've been much stricter with my diet for the last couple of months, and have been exercising almost every day.

Happy to report that today I weighed in only 100gm above my goal weight! I'm off to a wedding in Byron over the weekend so the timing couldn't be better!

Now for the bit I really struggle with - maintaining!

Hope everyone else is going well.

That is a great effort, well done.  Hearing people achieving their goals really helps to motivate the rest of us to keep going.  Maybe the best way for you to maintain is to keep posting how you are going, that way you get posotive feedbakc when you are doing well and you can kick yourself in the butt when your not!

Well its been over a month and everyone is pretty quiet that either means you are all going well and reaching your goals or you have all fallen off the wagon and are too embarrassed to let us all know how you are going.  I have been consistently running 30 - 45kms a week since posting on here last.  all easy running just really enjoying getting up before the sun each morning and getting out there.  The good thing is with the consisten running at that slow fat burning pace my weight is at the lowest is has been in years and without any real focus in diet.  If anything I am eating more now than when I can focusing on the pounds coming off and dont seem to put any weight on.

I hope you are all still working hard and seeing the results, remember it is only 9 weeks till the end of the year and meeting the goals you set.

I've fallen off the wagon a bit. Only a bit and am trying to pull it back together today. We were all sick in my house for a couple of weeks and that really stuffed everything up. Have been comfort eating to get through the day with whiny kids blah blah blah. Am going to try to pull my finger out from today. *sigh*

Its nearly the end of the year and we are firmly back in the silly season, every weeks now seems to be parties, after work drinks or BBQ's, not to mention the chocolates and cakes...

So far managing to keep the weight consistent with a bit of extra running and some gym work but the outlook for the next 3 weeks is bleak!!  I am certain to add a few pounds but hopefully If I keep on running through the holidays I can at least minimise the damage.

How is everyone else doing are you keeping it under control ?

Went to family xmas lunch on Sunday. Over indulged on refined carbs so out came the quick-eze. On car trip from Penrith back to Orange didn't feel that great.....went for planned 7.4km run only to have the worst attack of runners belly to date from 3.7km onwards. Was going well up until then anyway, sub 5:00 pace!

From today have really decided to start eating properly - will cut back on white flour, aspartame, caffeine, saturated/processed fats, added sugar. I am in recovery for an eating disorder and part of that is abstaining from junk food anyway, as much as is reasonable. I will probably have dessert for xmas lunch but that will be it. Upping the veggies, green tea, fish, taking fat off my pork/beef/chicken. However so far today I had a white bread roll with margarine on it for lunch, and had a red bull sugarfree just now for I was thirsty. At parties will just abstain from nibblies, for if I start I risk a binge. I am also recovering from a mild drinking problem, have not picked up any drink for over month now, that is going well. Running is fine as I am still training for a marathon on 24th February, now doing 70-80 km/week.

Hi all

Its been awhile!  I am running well (for me!) and am in for the Hobart Mara in January, last week was 85 km (long run was 35km) and now starting to reduce weekly km's as 4 weeks to go. The scales show 71.5 kg so I am there.....now to stay here! An up an down year, but I got there. Best wishes to all.

Good to here from you Turtle, it sounds like your running is going really well and the weights down too.  Keeping it there for Christmas is always the challenge.  This year I have promised myself to half my beer consumption by drinking water between each beer and using my beer monitor (actually the misses) to greater effect.  That combined with scheduling in enough early morning runs to deter me from drinking too much in the first place.  Hopefully that will help keep both the liquid calories and the unnecessary snacking down.  Good luck with the Hobart marathon let us know how you went.

Hi TLTL

Had to LOL at the "Beer Monitor"......!!

Its a funny thing, usually December is the start of the "off season" for me and the pressure comes off...and the temptation to over indulge occurs. One thing I have found thats different this year is that having Hobart mara early January, I am "in the groove" and really monitoring and on the job with diet and beer.....I wonder what will happen when I have finished Hobart, perhaps a deferral of Christmas!

The thought of having to carry a few extra kg's around for 42.2 km is a great motivator to keep calorie intake down!

Best wishes....

All the best for Cadbury M. as well, from me.

If you have a long run planned for this weekend, don't hesitate to join the DUM (Dubbo Unofficial Marathon) this Sunday 6.00am (or earlier) at the eastern Boat Ramp. There is at least two runners, me and son's girlfriend. The pace will be roughly 6 min kms for us.

Okay, enough is enough.  For me at least I've decided the silly season is now over - Xmas is a memory, NY is gone, the leftovers are all eaten.  Back on track...  yee-hah....

New years resolution is to abstain from sugar, processed foods and alcohol as much as I can. Day 6 only hiccup was a packet of crisps and a diet coke yesterday afternoon because I was starving and miles away from anything else.

UCBs thought for the day...
why do we need NY to make resolutions?
if we want to change, why not change?
whenever it may be?

Yup, it's just a date on a calendar.

Have already seen a couple of friends fail at their NY resolutions... maybe if they just concentrated on fixing one or two things at a time they would be more successful. Instead of saying they are going to loose weight, give up smoking, not drink so much, go to the gym, eat healthy etc... they could have decided to give up smoking for a start... then get through that then move on to their next goal...

I've always tried to encourage them to look for 'evolutionary changes' in their health rather than an all in 'revolutionary' change (not to say that some people can't wake up one morning and just totally change their lives, it's just pretty hard for some us)

The thing about making 'evolutionary changes' is that they don't stop once you tick a bunch of things off your list, you continually add to the list and try to improve further.

Anyway, I'm still tracking well since refocussing in mid-october... glad I didn't wait till the NY

We have a group starting an eight week challenge starting tomorrow. The reason for the date tomorrow was that most people start back at work tomorrow so it's getting back into a routine and trying to make it stick. Everyone is setting their own goals as everyone will be very different prepared to give up different things and having different goals. Just loading up on ice cream and crap now. Should make for an interesting pool session tomorrow!

Hi Turtle, how did the losing of the last few Kg's go and how was your Hobart Marathon.

I managed to survive the xmas period with only one over indulgent drinking session, which not surprisingly was at a work xmas party that my beer monitor (misses) did not attend.  Otherwise manged to keep the weight pretty stable and have started the year with more consistency and better kms than last, so hopefully this is a good omen for a good 2013.

Hi all

Finished Hobart Marathon last week,  just a couple of mins over 4 hrs which was pretty good for me, a PB so I am very happy. I ran a few kg's lighter than my last mara and this, along with a bit smarter training made a big difference. I know the next one will be sub 4hrs which is my goal.

I had quite a good run actually, and feel quietly pleased.

In terms of losing the last few kg's, I put it down to portion size.  Just eating less. With the hot weather, that wasnt hard.  I still think another kg or so less would help too. I am committeed to not putting too much on again.

It was great to see a few CR's down at Hobart too!

Keep going.

Mark
