Do you have a roller mr turtle? I was suffering with a lot of knee/itb issues and have been a lot better since using a roller before and after runs as well as stretching. Great work mrs turtle too!

Weighed a consistent 74 kg today and yesterday, went to GP for medical and his scales read 76.8 with clothes, putting my BMI very close to the overweight threshold (25 kg m-2). Ouch... they took a urine sample, why not a few skinfolds to nail down muscle vs fat?

How tall are you Russ? I thought I had to be 80kg to be in the overweight zone. 77.4 at the moment.

I'm down 0.4kg today but 1cm smaller in the tummy and waist so hopefully have lost more fat than 0.4.

I have a cheap fat monitor which says I've lost 1% body fat. It's a bit all over the place but hopefully it's right.

Unfortunately I'm having a bit of an ankle issue so might have to stop running for a while. What do you guys reckon is the next best thing for losing weight? Cycling? Should I try a spin class? I've never done one and I'm sure my leg muscles wouldn't be up to it as I'm not a cycler but definitely still want to keep going in the right direction weight wise.

Weight: 89.4kg
Difference since last week: -0.6kg

Good to see the weight heading back to what it was before christmas.

Had a great week running, despite some pretty hot days, definately becoming accustomed to running more in the hotter months

Well done everyone so far!

I just went an entire week without chocolate or Coke, so a good start to January.

Managed two hill runs, an intervals session and several swims (20 laps each) for the week.

It's not translating significantly to the scales as yet, but the image in the mirror looks a bit trimmer and the clothes are fitting a bit better.

Still 5kg to go...

I only just discovered this thread cause Ive been away doing exactly what you guys are talking about ...eating & drinking !!!  OMG it was fun!!....but back to reality now... luckily i dont have a weight problem as I dropped 25 kgs over the past 16 mths & its stable at 67 kg however my runs are so lethargic...I honestly thought I was the only one suffering from post festive season activities till I read this thread...& now I feel better !!! I'm struggling on short runs & I'm so sore....Anyway, got to get myself right for the Port Macquarie half in March...back on the Caveman diet which works for me & limited alcohol. I dont mind a beer & I've recently discovered drinking half beer & & half soda water is good... its looks like your having a real beer so your mates dont give you heaps & the soda doesnt affect the taste.... theres a tip !!
Good luck everyone especially you Ninjette...hope to see you soon....maybe Port or Herald Hill...

Ive had a great week.

Ran 10km Saturday, 21km at Hares and Hounds on Sunday, Speed Tuesday, a 12km tempo run Wednesday, and Hills Thursday.  Rest today.

Had 3-4 beers after hares and hounds but apart from that have been very controlled in what I eat and drink.

Weighed myself this morning at 84.37kgs, down from 85.73 last week. -1.36kgs, happy days.

Have a 30km run tomorrow morning and then a day out with the lads at the Magic Millions races. Will be very disciplined after Saturday for quite a few months leading into the running season.

Nice work sounds like everyone is doing well.  I had my first full week back at training except for wednesday arvo when I didnt go for a ride as it was about 40 deg.  confession time......I had a mates going away dinner at the German club brisbane, 3 x 500ml beers and a pork knuckle probably didnt help my weight loss this week and my Mrs birthday last night feasting on Salt and pepper calamari, cheese, chips, steak and potatoe bake followed by a baskin robbins ice cream cake.  still managed a .5kg loss so 1kg closer to fighting weight.  Heading to magic millions raceday tomorrow as well so going to enjoy that with Unlikelyrunner and then its 100% back on the wagon and trying to follow on where last year finished.

Had a much more consitent week, with three runs done and one more to go tonight.  Diet has been pretty clean too although did get home last night to find freshly baked chocolate cake!!  Thought it would be rude to not have at least one slice seeing as so much effort had gone into making it!!  Plan to weigh in tonight after my run, hopefully should have a small loss this week, fingers crossed.

-0.2kg this week, maybe it would have been more if I hadn't volunteered at Narrabeen last week and was delegated turnaround duty at the kebab end  of the course.

I find weight control much tougher than training. Lost a bit a few years ago with calorie counting, but put on 4 or so kg since then so bit the bullet in late december and counting again with the  help of calorieking. Off to a great start. Keeping my carbs up so am not running out of glycogen during my long runs. Pleasantly surprised.

A good week for me with 4 runs and 2 gym sessions at the weekend.  Weighed in after my run on Friday night and was down 1KG on the previous week (thats a 0.7KG loss when I take into account the 0.3KG gain the first week !!!).
Now all I need to do is back that up with another 4 runs this weeks and a 10% increase in distance. I didn't get off to a great start this morning, decided to stay in bed rather than get up at 5.00am.  Will run this evening to make up for it though...honest !

Ditto, didn't make it to the pool for my Monday morning swim.  Justified because it was raining.  It made sense when the alarm went off, can't work out how I convinced myself looking back now.

I am unfortunately having a problem with my ankle to am trying desperdately to get enough cardio done to keep going in the right direction.

Had an OK weekend but had some beers. Had a swim and a ride but unfortunately I'm not practiced enough at either to get anywhere near the workout running gives me. Oh well, just have to keep at it :)

Kind of lost weight the unpleasant way over the weekend...

Did the Running Wild Narrowneck Night Run, a tough race for me as it was my first ever trail race, done over 14km through the dark, the rain, the fog...

Had a bad reaction afterwards, was throwing up for hours. Not sure why, maybe I was dehydrated?

Anyway, the upshot is that I lost 1.5kg overnight, which has stabilized after eating again yesterday to 1kg down.

So if I can maintain that and press on, it's 4kg to go!

Feel like I'm going to need to join this thread - had my first 5k on the year and a truly abysmal performance. Going to need to shed about 7 kgs and up the running considerably - obviously pottering around for 6k at a time isn't doing me much good...

11.8km on Sunday and followed it up with 12km today, finally starting to get definition back in my stomach after having my 10lb 8 baby number 3 2 years ago. Not much luck on the scales though, hoping its muscle!

LOL not making it to the pool due to the possibility of getting wet in the rain is just about the best excuse I have heard, really made me laugh over my morning coffee.  I backed up my failure to get up at 05.00 with a steady tempo run last night in the heat, hope you did the same with your swim????

I jumped on the wind trainer when I got home and did a 45min interval ride which is the first time I've done that on the wind trainer.  Wow I think due to the lack of wind to cool you down it really hurts.  Strangely enough backed it up this morning by going to my speed session in the pouring rain.... At least I'm consistant lol.  I'm now enjoying the aftermath of what I call the wet running shirt cheese grater effect.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the cheese grater effect as you so eloquently put it.  Finally got an early morning run in today, thats run number 3 for the week.  One more to go and that will be two weeks on the trot with 4 runs.  If I keep this up I might actually get faster !!!!

Another .7kg down today.  Takes me to 1.7kg total over the last 3 weeks.  This should be my first "good" weekend as I have no parties to go to.  Hope everyone else had a good week as well.

Another good week weight wise.

Was 84.37, am now 83.45.  A loss of .92kgs this week, down 2.28kgs in 2 weeks.

Felt the benefits in my running this week, although a very light week of just 45kms and a 15km bike ride as well.

This week is a massive one running wise, and I will be likely to be clocking up somewhere around 80-90kms.  Ouch.

Boo!! I'm up a whopping 1kg this week. Not sure how that works. I did have a small discression mid week with a bad meal and some beers and I am down on my km's due to injury but I've been replacing running with riding and swimming and still running twice a week.

I have been at the gym a lot so hopefully some of that is muscle.

Oh well, no giving up now :)

All the best for the next week all.

No change in the weight this week but am only trying for another 1 - 2 KGs so expect it to be slow.  Second week in a Row with 4 runs and increased distance by 10% this week so very happy.  Got my new Garmin 405 on Sunday so have been playing with it all week.  Hopefully the fact I can now over analyse my running will give me the extra motivation to keep up the good work.  No big meals or drinking planned for the weekend just 2 gym sessions and plenty of sleep !!

Joining this thread and hoping for a 7kg drop to 75.  Been kindof stuck on 82-83 for a few months now. Stepping up the kms, let's see if that helps.

Got a pleasant surprise this morning when the scales said I was another 0.7kg down. I wasn't expecting that after a week of disrupted routine--I usually have a pretty good inbuilt sense of what I'm going to weigh before I get on the scales, so was very pleased. Hadn't done a lot of running this week after recovering from the Narrowneck Night Run last Saturday, long work days, and a couple of very late nights, but I guess interval training combined with swimming 1km (20 laps) almost every day has helped. Well, I press on with just over 3kg to go now.

Bit disillusioned this week, run to and from work every day, plus last Sunday, and have put on 1.5kg, so up to 90.6kg. Must have been the worlds biggest Kitkat that I had on Wednesday :unknw:

Yep. Hope there is room in this boat for me. After running the Perth C2S Marathon at 71kg in August I have done bugger all running. One trip to bali and a european holiday over christmas has seen me get to 78.5kg.
Back to reality. Tried to be good last week. Week off this week and it all went bad. A three day battle with an 3.5m Ikea wardrobe resulted in the consumption of 18 strongbow stubbies. Not good.
On week 2 of Sean T's INSANITY workout, but no results as far as weight loss goes.

I wouldn't be to worried.  If you had a good week nutrition wise (apart from the kit Kat) then the weight gain is probably due to something else.  I was told that a good guide to use is you need to consume 7000 calories more than you burn to gain 1kg of fat.  Unless you have eaten a kitkat the size of your fridge I think you will knock it off plus some when you weigh in next.

Planning on trying to run to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the long weekend, (Canning Bridge train station to Perth CBD).

Monday done, 2 days to go.

And nice hot weather too, after 1km I was sweating like a Rockingham whore on payday...

Back to pre-festive weight again, again (apologies to Dale Watson "I swore I'd never drink again, again") but after a long run so probably some fluid loss. Also cracked 200 km month for the first time, yay.

Good on you all for taking matters into your own hands! If you need a cheer up, just tune into "Biggest Loser" of an evening - their lack of heart and self control seriously floors me and don't get me started on the tears...!

I personally have not gone near a set of scales in years (they just do my head in) but following an injury induced lay off in the latter part of last year have had to join this thread as, although my clothes still fit the same, I have noticed some jiggle happening due to muscle loss.  I am also gradually getting back on the horse but possibly indulged in one too many lamb chops today thanks to the sound advice of Sam Kekovic!

I know what Ponytail means about the lamb chops, damn their meaty yummyness !!!  Not to mention that they seem to go so well with a few beers !

Have managed to get three runs in for this week so far though, with one more to do tonight.  Weekly volume up about 15% on last week so very happy with that.  2 gym sessions planned for the weekend although the 30+ degree forcast for Melbourne will most likely result in more BBQ and beer!!

I'm the same as last week but it's not surprising considering 2 x BBQ's yesterday and too much booze right before this morning's weigh in.

Looking like I'll have to take some time off the beer to get some decent results.

I havent run for about 10 days and am getting frustrated, and so is the family!  Kids keep asking me when I am going to be back running again........!

I have been riding 10km most mornings, a poor subsitute for a run, but something. Have seen the physio, also a CR and have a kneee cap issue. Needs rest and exercises which I am doing diligently. I do get to try a 5km run tomorrow.

Anyway I am 0.8 kg less than when I started, so all things considered thats OK.

Mrs T going well too.

How about this weather!

Good to hear everones news.

Just thought I would share with you the comment made to me about the three stages of a runner: either being injured, recovering from an injury or not far from the next injury.

happy running

No weigh in this morning as I was out the door at 4:20 for a run and didnt want to wake the house up by turning on all the lights.

I wouldnt expect any change in weight for myself this week even though I racked up 80kms on the road made up of 16km Sat, 36km Sunday, 10km Tuesday, 8km Wednesday, and 10km this morning.  I travelled all week for work and ate and drank a bit too much to expect any miracles.

I will weight in next week and hopefully will have some good news.

Sitting steady on the scales, I'm now convinced carbs are evil after breaking my little toe on a concrete wheel stop on my way into the bakery for a loaf of bread. On the elliptical for the next week or two while it heals. Hopefully I can keep my fitness up and start back up around the 10km mark as I'm keen to do the pentathrun in May. Theturtle I love your end comment, so true. Hopefully this is my one and only random act of stupidity this year. Hope you all have a great weekend :-)

Sorry to hear of your toe...ouch. After my own efforts over the last two weeks I am seeing an injury as an opportunity for character buidling....has to be a positive there somewhere!

Happy running!

Definitely! We have had a week of rain so not thebest for a run anyway! Pushed out 1 hr on the cross trainer this morning and will back it up with Pilates this arvo. Back in the pool tomorrow. As long as I get that endorphin hit I can wait a couple of weeks to run!

Ive had a really good week or so.... I really didnt think I was going to regain my fitness level prior to December but I'm on target for a good half at Port Macquarie in 7 wks. I'm building up & my long run of 14km on Saturday was the best for a while with my best splits being the last 2...my goal is sub 2hr at Port & I'm feeling like Im a chance if I continue to do the work... here's hoping !!

Woop! Down 1.2kg this week. So that weird weight gain from 2 weeks is gone and I'm 0.5kg's down for the year. Heading in the right direction again :)

I'm on a limited running schedule thanks to a dodgy ankle so running 6km every second day and doing a swim and ride each other day. No where near as good for weight loss as running full time but hopefully enough to keep me going in the right direction.

Hope that everyone else had a good week.

Another great running week. 35km road run Saturday, 8km moderate Monday, 10km speed session Tue (1500m reps), 10km tempo run (47mins) Wednesday, 11km hill session yesterday = 74kms total

Two weeks ago I was 84.37kgs, today I am 82.55kgs. Down 1.82kgs and 3.18kgs since we started this crazy caper. My gosh, thats 1/2 a stone!

Good luck everyone!
