Feel sorry for the race committee & organisers. They did their best to hold Glenbrook marathon but circumstances didn't work out. The caravan park has gratefully cancelled our accomodation at no charge but I am sure a lot of people in other types of accomodation won't be so lucky & I feel sorry for all you runners with other events coming up that this will affect.

Anyone from the Hunter Valley that I haven't got in contact with already, some of us are going to do a fatass run at Sugarloaf King of the Mountain 25km at 7am on Sunday 22nd instead.

Cheers, Grahame

How about 20th May - most of us are up there that weekend anyway.

The SMH Half is on that same day. The RunningWild Committee should consider possible clashes with other events when setting a new date as it won't be fair to those who have already forked out nearly $100 for the SMH Half to have to forfeit that race for Mt Solitary.

Pretty sure that was a joke mate. The North Face 100k is on the Saturday.

After Canberra Mick not many will be betting against you. That result blew my mind. Made me rethink that I was too old after all.

Apologies Hillclimb, didn't intend to take the mick - had assumed everybody running Mount Solitary would probably be running TNF100 on 19th May as well......(still, the sincerity of your answer did make me giggle)... :D

If the RunningWild Committee do reschedule its not going to suit everyone. Wont suit me. Its not about being fair. Just the way it is.
I can only imagine that there are so many factors to consider. Good luck to them and what will be will be.

Just looked at the CR run calendar -  July 8th or 15th appear to be about the earliest dates that may not annoy too many people - 2/3 weeks after woodford to glenbrook, 2/3 weeks before Westlink M7, no clash with Glow worm or TNF.   May and June look like busy running months with lots on.

Age is not a factor. Attitude and commitment are. Physical condition and fitness plays a part too... :-).

I am banking on it :-)

I don't stand a chance of catching Mick as i am not committed (enough! double entendre intended!)

Next weekend seems like the best option if possible.  After that things get hard.  I won't be surprised if the organisers find themselves without many good options.

If it can't go ahead I'm 0.5/3 from my big trail events for the year.  Lucky I decided to squeeze in a road marathon at the last second and got something to show for all the training.

My opinion only:

I doubt they will reschedule to next week. Too much to organise at such a short time. people need time to make plans as well. I would love it to be next week. good last hit out before TNF. however dont think it will happen.

Good luck to the RW team. Not everyone is going to be happy.

Is the course still closed to those that may want to do a fat ass style run on some or all of the loop?  Maybe i might do 6ft / 12ft instead.

That'd kill two birds with one stone... A long run on Sunday and a first jaunt along 6ft after the last cancelation.
Keen for a single direction if you are otisar?

If you are planning a wedding - check the RW race calendar and chose a week when a race is NOT on.

Should we still be training for Mt Sol ?   Perhaps it could be a 45km season opener tacked on to the top of the next RW calendar ??

It's now only 4 1/2 weeks until the Newnes glowworm marathon, that's where I am pointing my training. No taper required, I think I am all tapered out !

Fantastic. A great final training run for the City to Surf. I need to climb Mt Solitary if I'm going to survive Hearbreak Hill!

Excellent! Many thanks to the committee for being able to re-schedule and August suits me just fine as I love running in the cold weather!!

Never having run this course before, I'd like to take advantage of the additional training time to do a couple of exploratory runs over it, so was wondering if a good sense of direction, being used to running bush trails and using the course notes provided in the race information pack on the website would enable me to do so without getting bushed?

Any thoughts or suggestions as how best to explore it? I was thinking that running from the start to the top of Mt. Solitary and then back would be a good way to assess the steepness of what appear to be the two toughest sections - up to the top of Mt Sol, and then the last leg back up to the finish line?

Cheers

Bit disappointed it is a week after m7 marathon. However understand and appreciate the great work you guys do. Just means I will need a couple of days recovery between the two if I do both!

See you there.

Oh yay. For a 2nd time to once again decide about running M7 (which I have paid for) and then running Mt Sol the following week :) At least I, "hopefully" would of survived TNF and that would be a boost of confidence. Bonus training for a flat CP Ultra perhaps?

Mt Solitary is not to be taken lightly. It is a VERY tough run. Good luck if you think you can do it a week after a marathon.

VERY tough run Horrie??? I thought someone of your calibre would eat solitary for breaky, surely it has no comparison to the highest point on mainland USA?

I think he was making a point for newbies.  Experienced runners like Horrie  would eat m7 for entree, smash Mt sol for a main and then fill up on 12ft for dessert!   :)

Horries comment applies to most of us mere mortals! Backing up one week after a hard marathon run, for the majority, is foolhardy at best!

Glenbrook, Six Foot and then Solitary were progressively my "A" races this year (I am afraid to suggest my late addition to North Face Marathon pairs is, lest i jinx it!), but pragmatism is now kicking in.

At least they have facilitated training for endurance and stamina this year, which I hope will pay some dividends at my next 'A" race: M7.

So its M7 for me and I think that with great regret, My Solitary will have to wait 'til next year.

Toffy,  the route from the start and the clamber up Mt Solitary are pretty straightforward as single track section is fairly well marked.  Once on top of Solitary it takes a bit more care to navigate your way as the track is a bit indistinct in places, more overgrown, has more paths off it. On race day (in the mist) and despite the additional markings, I know of at least one runner who took a wrong turn and got lost for a bit. Experienced bushies who take their time should do fine.
Your up and back will be tough (but fun) - just a bit of care needed coming back down of solitary as V steep in places and may be a bit more if wet and slippy.

Anybody else planning do run Hunter Valley Mara, M7 Mara, Mt Solitary weekends after each other as prep for tackling C2S Heartbreak Hill?

Don't panic! Tongue was firmly planted in cheek. There is no way I would be able to tackle Mt Sol a week after M7:-) Maybe next year.

Don't panic! Tongue was firmly planted in cheek. There is no way I would be able to tackle Mt Sol a week after M7:-) Maybe next year.

Phewww! From experience, doing back to back marathons is suicidal. I did the Lap the Lake Marathon last year then followed it up 7 days later with Fitzroy Falls thinking I would be firing on all cyclinders having underrun Penrith. Safe to say, I was hurting hard 6km in and never recovered, The next 36km put me off long distance running for a good 6 months.

Key theme, dont get greedy.

While I feel sorry for those who will miss out on Solitary, I'll be lining up for an entry on 14 May.

No need for anyone to miss out, the choice is easy. Road vs off road. City vs bush.

Cheers
Toffy

Many thanks Halfwaydown - much appreciated and will take good heed of your "notes of caution".........

Thanks to the people I know for explaining where I was coming from. It was aimed at the original poster who has a marathon PB of 4:08. This run is not to be taken lightly. I know there are headbangers out there who can do it but not everybody could.

Unfortunately have decided to pull out due to m7. :(  I would love to do both but need to be realistic.  There is no way I could follow it up with Mt Sol!  Good luck everyone. Cant wait for RW to start up again  :)

Horrie I think you will find that is not his PB, just his time for Cadbury marathon. However what you say is totally correct, for most of us backing up a road mara with a hard trail ultra the next week would be asking for trouble. Mt Solitary is an extremely tough run from what I have heard and needs to be given due respect. Hopefully one day I will psyche myself up to give it a go

I'm still training and keeping keen, getting out regularly, although the cold weather is a turn off at 5am. One question though regarding the email sent 17 April:

Aid Stations
Due to the recent landslide on Kedumba we will have limited access to Jamesion Valley. Due to this there will only be one aid station that being at the top of Fuber Steps. Please be ready to refill you water / nutritional stocks there to last you the last approx 20km of the race.

Will the aid station at the helipad in Jamison Valley be there in the August run?

Just to add to bimblegumbie's query can I also ask:
Now event has been moved date some three months is there any logistic changes to mandatory gear?

The aid station hasn't been disscussed yet, there is still a lot of time between now and race day. As for mandatory gear it will be exactly the same.
