Great to have a city based course although methinks it may be up/down/up/down given the look of the route. Might map it out to get an elevation picture for a better idea.
Would be interested to hear other's opinions. :-)

I figured it would be nice but it's not an area I usually run through. It's going to be a beautiful run on marathon day - the prettiness will surely take my mind off the legs
Over the coming months I plan to add in lots of the course during my long runs so that I get really familiar and comfortable on the course.
Giddy up!!

It looks like the "toughest" climb is from 6.3 to 7 kms (from the Torrens to North Terrace). If I've worked it out correctly, that's only a 1.5% gradient (rounded up).
What time are you hoping to do ?

I am a bit reluctant to set a goal time at the moment but I would love to better my 2:59 from Melb last year. Low 2:50's would be great but I have a lot of training to do first.

I set my PB (3:22:36) at the 1984 Adelaide marathon, but if I can go under 3:27 this year (at 54), it will give me an age-graded 2:59
But I also have a heap of training to do before I can get cocky - my longest run so far this year is only 22 kms

Just registered yesterday for what will be my first Marathon, no going back now. Excited already. Hoping to get a good bit under 4 hours, but a finish anywhere around 4 will be a good result.
Apparently the Barossa marathon and associated races are now up to about 1000 runners, so I guess the Adelaide Marathon will also be a good turnout.
All the best to all participants.
Cheers.

I am in, will be registering in the next week. Well and truly in training now with 30km + long runs on the weekend already and at 90km per week which will increase to 100km after the Barossa HM. Only 13 weeks to go, just gotta stay injury free.

So even the training is going really well this year (102 kms last week), I'm going to hold off entering until the end of July

So for all those training for the Adelaide Marathon, where were you this morning when that massive rain storm hit? I was in the middle of Vic Park doing 800m intervals, I have never been wetter during a run. You have to love marathon training.

Luckily I managed to get back in my door and in to the shower and then it bucketed down! Hoping I can escape it tomorrow morning for my long run

A group will be running the first stage of Yurrebilla (Belair to Eagle on the Hill) tomorrow morning as a practice.
If it rains it rains. You get tough on the trail runs or you learn that it is just as much fun wet or dry.
I just hope its not overly windy, thats difficult in the exposed bits of trail.

Any one out there with a bit more info?

I'm going to run the course tomorrow morning, map in hand.
University Oval has a historic connection with the marathon in SA, being the finish spot of the very first marathon run here in 1920 (on 21 August), won by a Victorian Percy Collins in 3:18:22.6.

"All events start at the corner of War Memorial Dr & King William Street. All events finish at the University Oval, Park 12 between War Memorial Dr & Sir Edwin Smith Ave."
I know from looking at their entry details in recent years, they have had countdown markers (kms to the finish), instead of the more traditional method - 5, 10, 15 etc.

Those running the half marathon will love this course, especially anyone from out of town who hasn't already run over these parts hundreds of times. The marathoners will also enjoy it and the second lap will certainly be much more scenic than that of the West Lakes course, Adelaide's other two-lapper and scene of the Fanatics every Christmas Day. I reckon this parklands course has sub-2:20 potential but will we ever get any such runners to Adelaide again? The last time was Lawrie Whitty with 2:19:00 at West Lakes in July 1980.
Edit: I just noticed Road Runner's question about it being paved all the way. Yes it is, either bitumen road or asphalt path. There might be some small section of concrete paving along North Tce, but hopefully on the day we can run on the road. There is some path-works in the western section but this isn't part of the course. There's also a new footbridge over the Torrens near Port Road.

There were lots of people running it today. My 20 miler will be the Hills-to-Henley 30km in two weeks time. Yeah, wimping it with a downhill run, but next Sunday I'll do the Cleland Trail 25km run again. Looks like I'll crack 500km for July and I haven't done a month like that for yonks!
Thanks for the PM Road Runner. Looks like you're training well too.

I have thought about running the course but it's familiar to me anyway so i am not to fussef,so I just run round my local area. Did 34k today including running fullarton rd up to carrick hill and back. Feel good now though and recovering quick which is a good sign.

Good luck with your sub 3 mb2326 - looks like 2:55 is on the cards - and with your Sub 4 Andrew.
I entered the City Bay today - last chance to get the earlybird rate. Looking to better my age in minutes for the first time!

My first full marathon is getting closer. I'm not going to register for the City to Bay until I'm confident I still have the use of my legs after the Adelaide full!
Did a 30k on Saturday and was happy with my pace and recovery. Saw the new H2H markings on the linear park trail, something new to look at and made we want to run it but I don't want to risk it, have a habit of overdoing it in events. I have a speed week this week then another distance week finishing with a 35Km. Then I start to taper (not sure how I am going to handle this reduced training yet!)
Question for you seasoned campaigners - Do they have electrolyte drinks at the stations normally for this event or just water? I will have my own GU's but was wondering whether I should wear my fuel belt on the day too.

Thanks Cropower, sub 3 is the aim, a few things need to go right in the week leading up to the marathon and on the day for it to happen though.
I wont be doing the City to Bay this year, not enough recovery time (to run a race anyway) after the marathon. After my first marathon last year it was a good 6-8weeks before I could resume full training. Maybe in a few years after running a few more marathons I will be able to recovery quicker.
Will skip the H2H too, the only reason I could see myself doing that is for a 30km long run amongst a crowd. 30 km at race pace 3 weeks out would likely see me injured or ay the very least running my marathon 3 weeks to early. I will be sticking with my 32-34km run that weekend before the taper starts.
Damo, I am by no means a seasoned runner at all but in my vast experience of 1 marathon, I used gels with water only, I went no where near the sports drink, from what I have been advised sports drinks and gels do not mix well, although everyone is different. I am not sure what the SARRC provide as drinks though, obviously water is guranteed but not sure on the spoirts drinks. Being a small marathon (400 or so runners) you should take advantage of being able to leave your own drinks at specific locations around the course. I did this last year in Melb with 6000 runners and it worked perfectly. I had a 700ml bottle of water waiting for me at 19km and I grabbed it without breaking stride, it saved me having to slow down at water stations for the next 15km.
Edit, a small typo, I meant 400 runners, not 44.

Huh? Adelaide has had over 300 finishers in the marathon in last few years. Smallest field ever was 2003 with 140 finishers. Then there's the other events, so always lots of runners there.
You should be right for your electrolyte drinks Damo.

Legs feeling a bit creaky getting back into it today. Grumpy (but will get over that in a few days!). As long as this weekend's long run goes OK I'll feel better about things.

I've been studying the course using Google Earth, it helped me on my previous halftons...
Could you guys help me with these few questions?
1. is there any time limit for this event? I see they start the halfton at 8.15am. It would make me finish the course around 10.45am (hopefully)
2. is there any finisher medals?
3. where is the best place my family can wait for me finishing the run?
Thank you and good luck with the training

No finishers medals in the Half Marathon last year, so don't bank on it.
Your family will be able to find the best place while you're running, no problem at all.
Welcome to Adelaide. Enjoy the event and good luck for a good result!

From Footnotes #88, August 1994
Interview with Adelaide Marathon Race Director Tony Ashwell:
Q: What is your worst nightmare organising a marathon?
Tony: People borrowing someone else's number especially if they are the wrong sex. Annie and I spent 2 hrs. trying to work out whether a runner was a male or a female on the video of the finish. In the end we recognised his dog.
#47
Posted 23 July 2012 - 10:29 PM
Q: What are your personal achievements?
Annie: Living with Tony. As I continue to run it encourages older women to run. I enter races so other people don't have to come last.
Tony: 178km in a 24hr run, 3hr 16min in a marathon, 1hr 26min 40sec for a half marathon (Tony once finished a 24 hr run in his pyjamas after being in hospital). I was one of the first runners arrested and put in jail for running on the road.
Annie: I had to go and bail him out. Tony was let out in my care. The police put it down to stress.
