hi there - bit of background...I've run many half marathons and last May ran my first marathon - achieved my goal but it took a toll on my body and I got disc bulge and had to rest for about 5 weeks to recover...all was good until I had an overseas trip a month ago and the same thing happened, although much worse, in the way that my right side was in extreme pain, couldn't walk without my right leg from going from underneath me...well after a visit to my trusty physio and with rest was able to walk...about 2 weeks later I felt good and went for a run, and I think I overdid it....

Since then I've been back to the physio and with manipulation I feel it's getting better, although seems slow...although only 3 weeks since the original injury....

I'm planning to run GOR half 19th May and my fear is that I'm not recovered, so I'm resting....my problem seems to be first thing in the morning where I'm stiff and sore and this goes as the day goes on - although I'm not yet running...

any suggestions?

cheers

McKnickers, if your leg was giving way then you're looking at nerve damage. Physios are wonderful people (well, the good ones are!), but they aren't neurosurgeons. I'd suggest going to your GP and getting a referral to a doc to look at it. Discuss the running part of it with your GP too so that you've got a bit better chance of ending up with a specialist whos not going to be overly negative.

Having been there, it took me months before I could start running again, and many months before I could contemplate either racing or long distances. Don't be in a hurry. Healing is more important that any one race.
