Hi there,

I'm goaling for Melbourne Marathon this year and looking for running partners who want to pound the pavement with me.

As I'm running alone most of the time, it's easy to lose motivation. Closest running group to me, as I live in Hampton, is the Gunn Runners but a bit
far for me as I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old.

Can anyone make any recommendations on  other running groups in the Bayside area or if anyone is keen to join me, please let me know.

Cheers
Anita

Hi Anita, I've also just moved Bayside (Highett) and would be keen to join you for a run. Can you PM me?

I am also in Bayside and happy to join up in any group runs.  I don't know of any official organised runs in the area however.    I have my trusty 5k, 10k and 14k routes in the area that I am happy to share - and likewise would love to be shown some new routes.

Hi everyone,

I too live in the area and frequent the bay trail/beaconsfield pde many times a week! I do most of my long runs with the crosbie crew (who also do the MM training series) and often we run in the area. I usually also do a 14, 8k (recovery) and 16 during the week (am training for GCM at the moment) and would love company :) A friend who I am training with and I also do some of our long runs along the bay too when we want a bit more of a sleep in (CC meet at 8am) or sometimes if we want to run on a Saturday. Long run pace about 5:30 max? Try to do my 14s as a tempo and the 16 at whatever feels right.

Hi guys

I’ve just joined Cool Running hoping to find people in local area for long runs, and potentially a med-week run. I live in Brighton East.

I ran my first marathon last year in 4.18 – so I’m not quick. I want to go under 4 hours this year.

I trained by myself last year and found the long runs hard mentally. I'd hoped to train with a group this year but am doing the Syd marathon instead of Melb so that may not work.

I run up to 15km at 5.45 pace, and over 15kms at 5.45-6min pace. Happy to forward my program and if anyone has similar times/runs planned  maybe we could run together?

Cheers Matt

Hi Twee, I don’t know how to contact people direct on this site but would would be interested in some Sat runs if you’re keen? Feel free to email me at matt.allison@bupa.com.au and we can take it from there .
Maryclaire, had a look at your times and I’m pretty sure I’d hold you up pace-wise – which I don’t want to do.
Cheers M

Hi, looking for a running group in the mordialloc area to run along the beach. Training to do my 1st half marathon and any advice on training would help. 14.4 k is my farthest run...

Hey tonedup74 (and anyone else) - I just emailed Mattalison, yes I know it's about a month later but I only just saw the message! Still keen to have some company during the week for mid week longish runs/tempo's etc or on Saturday mornings (6-12k) for those keen. Usually I go pretty slow on the Saturdays as I do my long runs on Sundays. Tapering for GCM at the moment but will be right back at it hopefully not too long after for MM.

G’day all thanks for the comments/emails. Anita and I have been trying to tee up a run together for some time. We’ve finally managed to arrange a date – at some stage early in the morn on Sat 15th July.

Obviously the more the merrier.  If you’re interested in joining us flick me an email at matt.allison@bupa.com.au and I’ll circulate our emails to each other, and we can arrange a spot/time closer to. Or happy to send a group email to everyone that replies to me around to each other so that you can organise a group run prior to when I can make it?

‘Twee’ thanks for the note - I’ll include you on the group email.

Hopefully it can become a weekly/more regular group.  And no stress if we’re all at different times and distances. I’m sure if we start together it will naturally evolve from there.

Good running all, Matt

Thanks Matt, can you add me to the list? I am in the chelt area, but run along Mentone beach or a beach road. Will do my lomg rins along beach road and some times the trail that starts at mordy bridge and continues down to patterson river. I only discovered this one last year.

As we have two little uns, I have got into the habit of running at night. In the coming months will try to get down along the beach in the day, esp on the weekend. Would love to hear what people are up to in the bayside area.

I am also at the taper for GCM and looking forward to the run and the week on the GC, and the associated temps above12 deg!!

Hey twee, good luck for the marathon. Everyone I speak to loves the course. I am sure you have been keeping an eye on the GCM threads. Some great runners and good information.

Cheers,

GW

for bayside running, you might also consider Bayside Triathlon Club, Triathlon Response Group and other tri clubs who naturally have runs as part of their group training schedule.

I'm still keen for a run...Anita for some reason I can't PM either? Anyway let me know if anything is organised (other than 14 July, as I'll probably do Run Melbourne).

Does anyone long run on a Sunday?  I cant run Saturday's ,  contacted Mornington Peninsual Athletic Club about thier sunday run. Advised them  I could run 5m k's and would join as non competing member if that was ok.  The discussion was I would maybe be able to keep up with some of the juniors.  So thanks for the advice about the Tri clubs but think I will give them a miss as they are only looking for elite people .  Shall just go out on my own and keep watching the forums you never know as spring comes more joggers come out to play

but maybe not

I am just ramping up again slowly for MM and always looking for running buddies - I live in port melbourne but happy to drive to a meeting point along beach road somewhere. Long runs Saturday or Sunday depending on week prior, weather and fatigue - starting to build up from 14-16km and will get to about 34km in September - run about 6 min/km over the distance.

I am also doing Run Melbourne as a training run so out the weekend of 14 / 15 july.

I will check in on this thread or you can just email me at maryke_gary@hotmail.com

O.K Crosbie cerw where do they meet , thanks Stella C I feel better knowing i'm not the only one fast enough for them. I should clarify 5min k's on flat over 10k would like to build on it. I always think a group of runners at varying speeds is better for everyone

Some of them are realistically only really for MOP to FOP and if you're BOP then I'd give them a miss, but others genuinely do cater for slower people.

Quick update re the planned run for this weekend. Neither Anita or I can make it so we're aiming to have the first group run next Sunday morning (22 July) - which may work better for some who are doing Run Melb this weekend anyway.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me - I've shot you an update in return. If anyone else wants to join us next week, flick me a note at matt.allison@bupa.com.au.

Hi all, (also a newbie so can't PM)

I've (crazily) signed up for my first Marathon, will run a half marathon as a lead up event. Not looking to set speed records, surviving would be great! I'm interested in a running group, or a running buddy! I'm down on the Mornington Peninsula, but happy to travel a bit if the need arises. Probably more important to me on my long run days, although if there was someone close by who would be able to do shorter runs that would be great, too! My email is erinkferg@gmail.com - if anyone is around this area, shoot me an email!

Hi Erin,

I've just signed up for MM too - have only moved over to Melbourne with my family recently and looking to start running again. I live in Bentleigh so it probably wouldn't work for midweek runs, but might be able to meet in the middle for longer weekend runs (I live in Bentleigh). My training aspirations are fairly modest, I'd love a sub 4hr time, but initially just need to get a few miles under my belt. I haven't been running for a few years due to the patter of tiny feet. I'll drop you an email shortly.

Matt - you guys still meeting up Bayside? If so, of there are others in or around the Bentleigh area interested in a slow paced running group, my email is davidandrewcampbell@gmail.com.

David

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and interested in finding a Bayside running group (I'm near Mentone).  I am training (hopefully) for the Melb Mara this year.  I am running around 4 times per week at this stage - anything from 8k - 16k at around 5.30 - 5.45 pace (....but improving on that!).  Would be keen to do either weekend AM runs or late arvo runs.  Has a group been set up from this forum or is it just a matter of contacting individuals?

Would love to hear from anyone with info.

Hi guys, I'd hoped to meet up with some people last year but timings and the like just didn’t work out. However, adebortoli was running with a few people from the area. I do most of my weekday runs before work (Hawthorn) and long runs in various spots around Melb with some other running friends – am a bit sick of Beach Rd. We chop and change b/w Yarra boulevard, Capital City Trail, Dandenong’s, Lysterfield park etc etc. More and more we’re trying to run on trails instead of road. Happy for others to join if they like. We’re currently doing around 35kms on a Sat morn, with the distance increasing slowly.

Hi Matt - bit far for me at the moment :) maybe one day though as trails do appeal. I'm thinking about using the Salomon Trail Series to break up the MM training. I will drop adebortoli a line when i've got enough posts to PM

Rellie - I have been in contact with one more runner in the Bentleigh area and on thursday I start a new job in Braeside so might work to catch up, but I'm only back training for a couple of weeks so I will slow you down at the moment (5:45-6:00 4-10km only), but should pick up speed soon so keep in touch also in a couple of weeks I'll have a better idea of how my work weeks pan out so late afternoon runs might work out well.

Not sure best way to try to set up a group - is there something on this or best to set up a facebook group (which I have never done before)

Hi guys,

I used to organise "long wobbles" that were basically a long run along the coastal trail starting at Black Rock.  I think the long wobble threads morphed in to another thread for regular Sunday runs and moved to a more central part of the city but if you start a new thread I am sure you will get some starters.  I think we had up to 15 starters of varying speeds at one stage. I'd be happy to join in as long as there was a coffee and a muffin afterwards.

Sunday 8am at the Clock Tower suit anyone else? (although my long runs are not so long these days 10-12k tops)

I could do a Sunday morning at the Clock Tower.  What sort of distance are you talking??  I couldn't do this Sunday - but perhaps the following week if anyone interested??

This is exactly the kind of group I am looking for but I unfortunatley I can't do this weekend either.

However, would be keen to run next sunday if anyone was up for it - anything from 10-16km to start with (but slow for me 05.45-06.00 - you can wait for me at the cafe at the end if I drop off the back of the group :D)

Great!  Perhaps we can check in here closer to next Sunday (12th) to see how many starters we have?

This Sunday at 8am I'll run from the (upper) Half Moon Bay car park for about 12kms at roughly a 6:00 pace if anyone wants or can join me.

Hi wobbly - did you get many for the runway weekend?

Are you or anyone else up for a run this Sunday (12th) from black rock. Around 12k at 6:00min/km would be great but if people had different goals maybe we could  start together and meet at the end for a coffee?

Hey Slowpom, just myself and one of my Labradors this time - it was a beautiful morning and we ran to the old Hampton Rehab site and back (about 11kms).  I'll be doing it again from Half Moon Bay this Sunday (Mother's Day) same time or from Black Rock if others are coming (with coffee afterwards). If planning on coming along, just post something here.

The half marathon event down at Devil Bend run by the Peninsular Running Club used to be a great lead up event http://www.devilbend.com/ and down your way.

Hey Slowpom, There is another group that will be running further at 7:30 from the end of Reserve Road and Beach Road.  I'm up for about 12 maybe 14km only.Ï'm tempted to start there and run North and then meet them back at Rickett's Point for a coffee. Thoughts?

Hi wobbly. Only just got last message so may have missed you I'm going to head off from the car park now - sorry we didn't get to catch up this time but will have to try again.

Slowpom - I was there but missed you somehow?  Sorry.  Where were you?  I took off at a couple of mins past 8:00 when I saw nobody else (except the lady doing hill reps).  Next week?

Hi Slowpom & wobbly, just happen to come across your messages, I'm in Bayside too and like to join for an early run Sunday(s), but wouldn't want to hold you back as I'm not the fastest runner (bit over 6 min/k). Doing the odd 10K races and the Mothersday run last Sunday! But love to step up for 1/2 marathon.  Let me know your thoughts

Hi Sanlisette. Come along if you like, its always nicer running with someone else.  Same place and time (upper half moon bay car park @ 8am on Sunday) provided the weather isn't feral - a coffee or hot chocolate afterwards is optional. :)   I'm happy to run a little faster or slower than 6min/km for up to around 15kms (Green Point).  I'll take off heading North at about 8:05 anyway.

Hi wobbly and sanlisette
I think I was a couple of mins late so my bad - apologies. Ended up in heading north and turned when I got to the car park overlooking the beach huts - great route.
I may have been over optimistic on my pace as was a bit under 6m/km but this was contributed to by a few friends dropping over for a cheeky glass if wine (or two) the night before!
I would love some company so will head to the half moon bay car park and will try to be on time this week :)

If you're looking for a half marathon as part of the build up, get yourself along to www.devilbend.com on Sunday 4 August on the Mornington Peninsula.  Dirt road running at best, so it won't smash your legs up.  Hope to see you all there.
