I'm headed to Noosa soon from the west and looking forward to lots of running while there. Looking at a trail map it said beware in the rainforest as it's dangerous, that there have been assaults and people shouldn't run alone.

Is that true? I was really surprised to read it. Having said that I'm now going back looking for the original piece and can't find it...doh.

Beware of people walking who step to the right after you call out "on your right!'. Caused a muscle in my back to tighten up after I tried multiple side steps in the confusion!

Seriously though, standard precautions should be taken whenever you are running somewhere new until you are familiar with the area. This could be in Noosa or any other place for that fact. I've only run a couple of times there but wouldn't say it's risky.

Could be a good opportunity for you to find a new running buddy!

Noosa actually has a history of assaults around the trails that go around the headlands and over the hill. Tourists have been targeted in the past, there were a few high-profile cases a while back. A true local might be able to tell you how frequent these actually are.

But if you're running along the coastal path out to A-Bay it's pretty well-populated - between First Point and Ti-Tree it's sometimes busy to the point of being irritating.  The inner trails are very quiet, a bit sandy at times but beautiful. Apparently Steve Moneghetti rates the Noosa trails as some of his favourites. If you can find a running buddy they're definitely worth it.

Hi  Serena,

Have run many times over the years in Noosa and going up again in October and never had an issue, My biggest problem has always been crazed walkers with prams getting in your way.

Its like anywhere if you go out really early or late then you need to be careful.

Cheers,

Rob

It is stunningly gorgeously beautiful here in Noosa. Running along the coast to Hells Gate then back via the rain forest...wow. Feels safe, lots of lovely runners about the place. This has just become an annual event for me. There is this great little coffee joint right at the entrance to the national park, very unobtrusive, cool dude makes great coffee and plays John Butler on the stereo while you sit on a burlap covered milk crate having Pre or post run coffee, it's just magic.
