Anyone else doing Tough Mudderin Sydney?  I've registered for the event and have joined a team of mad (mostly) kiwis so I fit right in.  I've never done anything like this before and am interested to see who else is doing it and how you are training for it.

Ian and I have entered Owly - trying to do pushups, planking and monkey bars twice a week (so far without much success!!).  We will also hopefully do some rope climbing at an indoor rock climbing centre. We need a lot more upper body strength, have got the cardio fitness and leg strength but there's no way I could lift myself up a rope, or anything really, at the moment!  My goal is to be able to do 50 full pushups and a couple of chin-ups by September.

Tough mudder is a good show, the best physical challenge on the planet, I done the melbourne one and I'll be back for the sydney event in september, where I challenged my bro who is a copper in the riot squad. I  should get my time close to 2 hours in Sydney. My time for melbourne TM was 2:29 [ I was holding back a bit as I didnt know what to expect] I fell off the balance beam and the monkey bars [some sod greased dem up ].

This event favours the runner for sure :) The bulkier looking chaps tend to rest halfway through the course [picnic lunch?? hahaha ]:)

I'm new to the forum, have been lurking in the city2surf threads, but am also registered to do tough mudder in Sept. Looking forward to it. I'm registered with some guys from my husband's work and i think their run pace will be pretty relaxed, so the distance will be fine. Have been working on upper body strength (can do about 35 push ups, 15 chin ups). I'm more worried about 10,000 volts of electricity...

I signed up and I'm extremely excited yet nervous all at once...the week before we have the Sydney running festival and then will back it up with TM...nevertheless I did tough bloke challenge in appin earlier this year and despite the distance being 6km I still struggled but loved every minute of it so imagine 21km gasp! But I'm tough enough so see you guys there :-)

I was in Appin to for the Tough Bloke Challenge. What time did you manage?

Also doing Tough Mudder but didn't enter the Sydney Funning Festival because I wasn't too sure on how I would go backing up from that event the week after

I said I struggled and did it in 80 min. I was stuck at the plumbers pipe as well as Iwall 3.0 and hence pretty much failed at those 2 obstacles after 4+ attempts But I backed it up next week with a more respectable sydney harbour 10k time of 1.02

Not long to go until tough mudder. How are people doing?

I'm feeling ok about the distance, mildly nervous about some of the challenges, and very nervous about running 18km with wet feet!

I did it today and it's pretty tough. Didn't set a particularly good time as there were some slower members in our team but had a good day. I will be quite happy to not see any mud for at least a few months but the beer at the end (despite it being VB) went down very well. Anyone else do it today?

Did it today!  It was arrrsome.  Yes...quite tough and soooo much mud.  Electric shock was not nice but at least they didn't waterboard us.  My pick was the Dancing Ballerina which consisted of deep mud then very shallow mud so you had to haul yourself out of each pit.  Very well designed.

I'm not sure I'd do it again but as a novelty it was terrific.  Finished the 18km in maybe 3.5 hours.  Muddy tracks...not a lot of normal trail running.

Such an awesome day! Happy to complete all obstacles first attempt, the team work and mateship was great! Ice bath, electric eel, everest and hauling yourself out of those mud pits were the best/worst! We started in the 12pm wave and got to the finish at 3:15, so sore now, not looking forward to work tomorrow!

We did it yesterday - what a blast!!! Our team was aptly name Puny Humans! I attempted all obstacles, and only failed jumping over one of the higher Berlin Walls. Thought I was going to be left to die i the mud trenches - at 4:30pm two or three waves entered at the same time, and it was pandemonium!!  Just awesome!!  I am more sore today then after any marathon, 6ft, 100km...

Oh - and we are signing up for the one in February 2013!!!

I did it on Saturday. Had a great day! So much mud - so much more than I was expecting.

I held up pretty well all things considered and I don't think I whined at all, although I did do some swearing during the electric shocks (!)  I enjoyed the half pipe, the jump into water, and every time i got to rinse off in a river!!

I was disappointed that some of the obstacles they had said would be there weren't - walking the plank, a slip and slide one, going under cargo nets, across a river on ropes. Compared to the map they had online I felt there was less of those obstacles and more of the mud pit/river crossing/mud pit/river crossing.

Will definitely consider it again.

They actually charged my 16 yo daughter $40 admission just to be a spectator (her boyfriend participated)

Disgraceful.
