Am considering doing this run, however, four questions.  The site under frequently asked questions has a "date and time category" however, I can only see date.  As I would need to make travel arrangements leaving and coming to Canberra this would be really handly to know, as my train from memory leaves around 11.00am from Canberra Station on the Sunday.  Would need time to finish run, pick up gear, shower and change before departing.  I the run starts early I can manage this, but if not will need to give it a miss.  So if anyone who has done this run from past years and help out with this information, it would be appreciated.  No doubt the time is on the website somewhere, but I am going crazy searching for it.

Secondly, is it easy to get from Canberra station to Phillip?  I would intend stating someone near the start line, so any good suggestions for accommodation around this area would also be appreciated.  Lastly, if you register early do they send your number to you via post (as in the City to Surf), otherwise, if not I will have to hope they can be picked up late afternoon when I arrive in Canberra on Saturday or on the morning of the run?

Kookaburra, from the website there's this :

Venue
In 2011 the fun run commenced at 9:15am at Yamba Drive, Phillip and the fun walk commenced at 10:15am at Dairy Flat Road, Fyshwick. Any changes to the start location will be advertised on the website.

I would assume any change in starting times, if there are any, would be advised then too; nearer to the date.

As for postage of race numbers, the website says Early Bird Entries received by July 25 will be posted to entrants.

For accommodation, sorry I can't help as I don't know Canberra all that well.  I usually Google a map of Canberra and then look for accommodation from the map in an area close to the start.  I've done the 10km before and it's a really good event!  LL

From the station you can easily get to near the start by taxi or a bus into the city and then out to Woden.

Thanks Lucky Legs and Running Ragged for your feedback.  I tend to be a bit blind when looking for the information I want on website.  Seems everything else jumps out at me besides what I am after.  9.15am - this might make it a bit tight if I am aiming for the 11.55am train back to Sydney.  I can run the 10km in about 46 minutes, but then there is picking up luggage and getting to the station etc, not to mention the unexpected can always happen.  I do like running in Canberra though.  Have done the 10km in the Australian Running Festival for the last 2 years, and always find it a clean place to visit.  Have entered the run anyway and will just hope I make a clean get away after the run.

For those of you who live in Canberra, remembering I don't mind walking, if I was to walk to Canberra station from the finish, approximately what is the distance?

Using google maps and assuming the finish is still Rond Terrace, then it is just under 4.5km to walk to the station. Basically back over the bridge then head east alongside the lake through Kingston.

For accommodation close to the start - the first one that comes to mind is the Quality Hotel Woden. I have never stayed there so can't comment on what it is like.

When I participate in the Australian Running Festival in April I always get the train from Sydney to Canberra - definitely are trains.

I am keen to get feedback from past participants, both the 10km and the 5km event.

It is a fast (10km) course and with Martin's sub 30mins win last year, we are keen to keep it that way. What i am after are smaller things like 'More road marshals directing runners at XYZ.." or " more of abc along efg.."

My only comment would be to get the basics right.  In the last few years this race has managed to start 20 minutes later than advertised (with 3000 people already waiting at the start line) and having runners at the pointy end have to zigzag and push their way through crowds of walkers.  Last year everything seemed good though.

Have just entered, last day for "early bird" price today!

Got number 888, is that lucky, unlucky or just weird? :)

Ask any Chinese and they will tell you thats the best number you can possibly get...
To translate it , it means..."Fortune..Fortune..Fortune.."

(As you probably figured "8" means Fortune...)

May this give you the extra few kicks for a good 10k

I was always of the belief that the more 8's the better, particularly as I live in an area full of Chinese.  Having said that I had a massive stack on the 8 August 1988 and required back surgery as a result.  Maybe this was good luck in some ways, because after that I resolved to get better and took up running.

On another note, has anyone received their race number yet?

I entered on the 24th July just before the deadline to get a race pack posted in the mail.
Still yet to receive it though, I hope it comes soon.

Hope everyone's training is going well! Haven't run much over the last few weeks due to a cold/throat thing, but finally starting to feel
a lot better and did a nice 14.3 km this morning, beautiful weather!

Am coming to Canberra by train to Saturday arriving around 1.00pm.  As I need to go to the expo to exchange my shirt (wrong size) can someone tell me where Ronds Terrace, Lake Burley Griffin is?  Of course, I know the Lake but is it on the Parliament House side of the Lake or the War Memorial side?  Also, which is the best way to get to Phillip from the railway station?

Ronds Terrace is on the North side of the lake midway between the Commonwealth Ave Bridge and Kings Ave Bridge, on a map if you
follow from the war memorial down Anzac Parade it's where you reach the lake shore! From the station to Phillip I would say either
get a taxi or you can get the 980 bus into the city and then one of the expresses to Woden/Phillip, timetables are here:

So how did everyone go? I finished in 44:40 which is 34 seconds slower than last year, I think I pushed a bit too hard at the start then faded a bit in the last 3k. Oh well better luck next year :p

Perfect weather for the run this year, a glorious Canberra spring morning. I hope everyone had a great day :)

Awesome weather!  Especially compared to the days beforehand.

I had a solid run.  37.50 which is my pb, though not quite as fast as I had fantasised that I might be able to do.

After all those years wanting to do this run, I finally made it to Canberra and found my way to Woden on the Saturday for my accommodation.  Absolutely loved the run and would recommend it for anyone wanting to do a BP.  I didn't manage a PB, time was 45.50, but there were no hills to speak of, except for that one up the grass area at the end and the rest was pretty much flat or downhill, and compared to Brisbane last week, it was not cold at all.  Manage to make it easily for the 11.55am train back to Sydney and will definitely mark this one in for my diary for next year.  The only run I have done in Canberra in the past has been the 10km (Canberra Marathon) in April each year, and I always find that one a bit boring as it goes nowhere except in loops around the park.  The motivation for me today was knowing I had a  destination, I could see that destination getting closer as Parliament House came into view, and extra motivation to make it to the end as quickly as possible to so make it back for my train.

If anyone can save me a copy of the newspaper results tomorrow, please let me know.  In return, if ever you do a run in Sydney I will return the favour.

One thing I must add to my comments above, brilliant course, although I must admit running on the grassed area towards the end was hard to get any speed going towards the line.  Apart from running up the slight slope, I found my ankles wanted to turn easily on the grass so had to take it easy whereas normally I would have rushed towards the end.

That's the other thing I like about runs in Canberra, they always have the PDF versions of results to download.  I have done runs in Brisbane and Melbourne, as far as I know, they never have a PDF version.
