Came across this below whilst googling for an old friend of my fathers, George Bunner, founder of  Sportshall Athletics (indoor competition for kids in chilly UK winter) and the World Marathon Challenge.    What a magic idea, a 211x200m relay for teams of 31 kids, often run simultaneously with a major marathon, trying to 'win' the marathon, or beat the world record. Reconnected with George via Facebook and he suggested I try to involve an Australian school or team.

No kids myself, or involvement with schools, or organisational flair for that matter, so I’m putting it out there for anyone involved with children’s sports, in case you’re interested.   The YouTube clip is worth a look for anybody.

George, now 80, remains very much involved with kids athletics, and would be delighted to hear from you.

From Facebook, cut and pasted, hope the links work….If not, its worth a wee google..

After the success of last years event we are very pleased to confirm details for the Save the Children World Marathon Challenge 2012 which will be held on Tuesday 16th October to coincide with the United Nations World Food Day.

This year we aim to have more than 500 teams of children across the world running in solidarity to highlight the daily struggle that many children face just to survive.

The 2012 World Marathon Challenge Organisers’ Guide is attached and should you wish to take part please register your team at www.sportshall.org/VTL/wmc_registration.aspx. The registration form also gives you the opportunity to have an invitation sent to other schools in the UK or abroad who may be interested in taking part. We do hope that you will be able to join us.

A reminder of last years fun can be seen on

This year we are very grateful once again to the AAA and Eveque for their generous support.
