Hi All,

I'm after a little advice. I want to get a pair of race day shoes for races up to 10K (and maybe city 2 surf). The problem is I'm a moderate overpronator, and I'm not exactly a small unit (about 190cm & 95kg).

I'm looking at three models, the adidas adizero tempo, brooks ST5 & saucony fastwitch. I currently wear Asics GT2170's, Brooks Adrenaline GTS & I'm waiting on a new pair of Brooks Trance to be delivered.

Does anyone have these & what are your thoughts, also am I kidding myself & should I just stick to more stable shoes?

I'm by no means the same build as you (170cm/55kg) but I too am an overpronator and wanted a lighter, but still stable shoe.

I use the Adidas Tempos for speedwork and Saucony Fastwitch 5 were my first 'racing flats' - I ran a marathon in them and now use for triathlons. Both are great as they still feel stable, but don't feel ultra heavy like my Kayanos/Mizuno Inspires did.

I've just switched to the Mizuno Elixir 7s though and they are A-MAY-ZING. Light, responsive, stable. I normally get 700kms out of my Inspires but I'm up to just over 400 in the Elixirs and they still feel good so I'm thinking they're rather durable as well. My plan was to just use them as my everyday/long run shoe but I'm using them for everything because they're just so comfortable. I even ran a marathon in them 2 weeks ago and my feet felt supported the whole way. Worth a try IMO.

How much support is there in the Mirage, Loubee?  Compared to the Trance specifically?

Thanks for the advice peoples, I've got a few more pairs to consider, looks like a trip to a specialist runners store is on the cards. I've decided I'm going to get a pair of racing flats anyway & just hope I don't blow my ankles out.

I've found them pretty good, the Trance is very supportive so I was a bit nervous as all other shoe changes have been a diasaster for me. I could run 5k immediately and they felt fantastic, a really comfortable shoe. I was sore in the calf for a little and worried they weren't for me but I was told this was to be expected with the lower heel toe drop. Sure enough no soreness after consistent use and a 10k PB.

Yet to use them over 10k but planning to build up to a half marathon in them once I get the ext couple of marathons out of the way.

I've been happy with my DS Trainers. I do most training runs in GT-2160s but wanted a bit lighter shoe as well. Took a little bit to get used to the firmer feel and also felt like they had less support. No problems at all now and I find them comfortable for interval training and runs up to 21km so far.

I'm a big time over pronator.
I've got the DS racer 9s.
Usually run in Kayanos and these feel similar, but very light++.
Never had any problems with soreness etc. Only use for races and "high speed" sessions.
I'm really only a 10k runner.
