I have had anterior knee pain for 2 years. MRI suggests it is caused by an oedema on the infra patellar fat pad, but I am not so sure. I have noted that my glute on that side does not activate as efficiently as the other side. I have tried activation exercises for no result. I note that I have more pronation of that side's foot as well, but exercises have given no result. Is there anything I am missing?

It's a difficult thing to try and 'assess' over a forum darren. Have you had a visit to your physio?

It may be a case of the exercises not being effective .  Have a look at the following two blogs on strengthening gluteus medius .

I have had a lot of success with exercises like this where traditional side  lying leg raises, clams etc have had no effect at all.

Thanks guys. Yes I realise it is not easy to do over the Internet, I appreciate the help though. Physios have not helped so far.

If you've seen some competent physios and the results are not there, it could well be fat pad impingement. It's one of the harder things to diagnose in this area, and one of the most difficult to treat! It can be a massive PITA to get a clear diagnosis as the MR isn't perfect unfortunately.

MRI makes use of radio waves and also electromagnets to get illustrations of any area of the body system. The knee soreness could be identified fully by means of 3-D photographs which are produced using this test. The problems of soft cells within the knee area could be instantly concluded with MRI.
