Try this link;  http://au.eventdirec...egCategory.aspx

Seems to be the same as above, but did not work at first, tried a second time via CR calender and got in.

Neither of the above links works for me.  Too early perhaps?

Not much happening on this thread, kind of surprised seems how it is the ANSW Half Marathon Championships.
So who is going?
Target times?

I am planning on doing it being only 1 week after Sydney Trailwalker not sure how fast I can go but I will do my best.

I got my HM PB last year on this course, if recovered enough will try for a PB so sub 1:27:43.
Anybody else looking at a similar time that I can pace off?

Brick, I feel like a serial poster on this thread, but as you say, it has been very quiet.  I am all signed up and will be there. It will be my 2nd HM since I ran my first back in 2010 when I had just started running. I'm not going to go at it too hard with the Sydney marathon 2 weeks later, but perhaps a 1:45 'ish.

I'm doing this as my last hard work out before the Sydney Marathon. Also representing Sutherland in the NSW Half Marathon champs.

Ran through Mirambeena reserve today as part of my run, and it really is just the best spot. What with the water/trees/birds etc. And despite being so close to a busy road, it somehow remains peaceful. Can't wait to get out there for the HM :)

I'm in for my second year on this one.  Day after Striders 10km so that should be fun, mind you it was last year ands I still did OK. I didn't know the course back then though :)

Well priced, nice traffic free location and a reasonably sized field without being too crowded ... what more could you ask for?

If the weather continues like the last couple of mornings, it will be a fantastic run. With 1 week to go, I'm really looking forward to it.  A great event to get me in the swing of it for the Sydney marathon

I'm also in for the half!  I'm not sure what time I can do after a less than stellar year marred by lower limb injuries.  I did manage a 3:35 in last weekend's Mudgee marathon so if I can get between 1:30 and 1:35 I'll be happy.  Of course, if I do so well that Brick is getting annoyed at the dust from my heels I'll be even happier!

So how much of the course is grass and how much of it is gravel path? I have looked at the gallery on the website and it isn't that clear. Likewise, the course on Google maps doesn't give much away...

Leyley
I would say about max 300m of the course is not on sealed paths.A short bit at the start. then a short bit once each of two laps, then another slightly longer bit to the finish line.

Thanks! It would be great if the event site had a little more info on it. I'm not expecting elevation cross-sections but a basic course detail along with clearly marked start and finish pointers would be nice. I figured it out by looking at detail but most maps (Including the one for Ryde rivers fun run) clearly mark the start/finish point. It doesn't take a genius to work it out I admit but it would take the hassle of zooming in and out all over the map.

I couldn't find information on the website regarding drink stations. I'm guessing there is one at the lap marker halfway? Or you can get a drink from a water bottle you place on the course? Or would that be considered 'outside assistance'? Thanks in advance anyone who has the answer/ran previously.

Have only run this once before (8 years ago! - my one and only half!!) but seem to remember there were ample drink stations along the course - not sure what happens these days though.
Can I do a PB this weekend ?? (8 years and a baby later....)

I ran their 10km event back in May, and there were 3 or 4 water tables I think. Couldn't tell you the distance between them, but it certainly wasn't a problem.  The 10km started on grass for about 200/300m, and then was sealed the whole way from memory.

A number of Hills Runners will be there on Sunday. It is the State Champs so there should be some good times on a testing course. As mentioned previously by Brick, a PB is still posible on this course.

I will be running and hopefully finish in around 95 minutes.

I have entered........and since I am currently running very poorly, may I request a hot chocolate. :p

I don't head out to lake Gillawarna very often, but i really enjoy it when I do. I have fond memories of my first marathon out there 29 years ago.

From a couple of years ago, I remember one drink station which you pass in either direction up toward the north end of the two loop course and another at the south end, so that would give 6 stations spread over 21km.

As for the directions to the start, I thought the website instructions were perfectly clear.

"The clubhouse is located 150m west of the footbridge over Henry Lawson Drive, Georges Hall, between Flinders Road and Georges Crescent.  If you are attending for the first time, we would recommend that you park in Henry Lawson Drive under the pedestrian bridge and walk in 150m to the clubhouse."

You won't miss it. Just look out for about 500 runners!

Westies have been successfully staging races for decades. They are runners. They know what runners require. Just roll up, race, have fun. No need to over-think it.

Happily, i now looks like I can make this run. I really enjoyed the 10k earlier in the year, so looking forward to tackling this course again.

A quick request though, I was wondering if anyone was heading down from the far west? I can catch a train from Katoomba to Penrith or any stop on the blue mountains line, but getting from there to Bankstown at the time of day is not super easy..

So we start from around near the clubhouse? It says click here for directions to the start but then it just describes getting to the clubhouse. It looks about right after reconciling the location it with the ends of the squiggly lines on the route map. I have one other question from previous years are the tops true to size? Or are they a bit big, or a bit small? I'm usually a medium but sometimes 'mediums' are huge...

Park in Beatty Parade, and you won't be able to miss the start area

Having run the ACTVAC Half Marathon 10 days ago, I'm procrastigating about doing the Hidden Half again this year even though I've been running it for some years now.  I should and I probably will, but not 100% eager or sure yet!  Posted Image      LL

2010 was freezing I don't think I partook of any water, although there were water sachets being handed out at a water table table.

When you see Ibis sitting in trees on a artificial lake and fit looking running types scuttling about all in the one direction then follow them,  the Westies Clubhouse and the race start area is afoot.

There are burn offs happening and the smoke has been noticeable (even in the east) last night. Does anyone know whether the burn offs will effect (be noticeable on) Sunday?

Smog from cars on the Hume Highway and Henry Lawson Drive might be more of a problem. Although it is Sunday, so less traffic yeah!

" 31/08/2012 to 01/09/2012 Hawkesbury Blue Mountains National Park, East Kurrajong West of Putty Road, near Blaxland Ridge NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service NSW National Parks & Wildlife
"
The only worry is the burn offs hanging around early on the 02/09 but unless there are strong north westerly winds blowing (and a large tract is burned off) then we should be right.

I checked the wind forecast (even though I know how fickle five day forecasts can be) so we should be right:

WSW at 13km/h

I just tried to register but it said registration was closed. I will not take my chances to register on the day as that would incur an additional fee and there are no guarantees. Is there any way to register online still? It says check the website for further information, where it redirects you to "enter now" back to the hidden half page. Then it displays the same link that says entries are closed. Is there any further information? Is there a list people can join if the event has reached capacity for a spot? I would like to register for the half but I was worried about the conditions and have never run one before in a comp setting so I was taking my time to register. Now Pom's link in the OP is an error and the active link says registration closed and to consult the website which still says registrations are still open. Conflicting information? How did you go wildcoyte in registering? I'm disappointed as this was going to be my first and only half I would run this year.

I'm pretty sure this event would not "sell out". Have you tried calling the number given on the info page to ask about entry on the day?

Why did they close online entries four days in advance? Does it take that long to process online payments? I am very hesitant to register on the day. I have had bad experiences in the past finding desks and just general panic. I need to have things organised before hand, so it looks like I won't be running :( Good luck to everyone! Were people still entering yesterday or were the posts on the forum from people who registered some days/weeks ago?

Relax, Leyley. B)

If you roll up to enter on the day, you will certainly not be turned away. The club and the race exist to get people like us out and running!

It will just be a simple process of fill out the entry form, pay your money and collect your number.

It's a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and an attractive course. You will be glad you decided to venture out.

Well said! :) I ran the 10km back in May, my first time at a Westies event, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Leyley, you'll be glad you turned up, it's a great spot for a run, and the weather looks perfect at the moment. If you're concerned about finding your way, the registration desk etc, just get there a little earlier. I'm the first to put my hand up and admit I like to be at a race on the early side of early. Then I can sit down, soak up the atmosphere, and relax

It would've been great to know if there was a predetermined date for closed registrations online... I would've understood if it was related to full capacity (thus a date for cut off couldn't be predicted) but all of a sudden registrations closing without any notice on the website is a bit disheartening. Is it an extra $10 $15 fee for registering on the day? So $40 + 10,15 = $50,55? I can't find this information and I don't want to chase around and bother the organisers for answers. It now states on the website that online entry is closed but earlier today it was stating they were still open on the main page (but when I clicked through I was told it had closed). From the looks of it is a very professionally organised event held over a number of years and I have been through the photo gallery and there are plenty of smiles and presentations so it looks like a lot of fun as well as providing some decent competition, but I just feel a bit stuffed around by this.

I'm glad everyone has had positive experiences related to it and hopefully there will be a great turn out this year and the conditions will be good.

I've left it too late for online registration too; thought it would go till Friday;  just now found it closed, but I'll be there in time to register on the day.  Having run the half a few times, and doing the ACTVAC half just 10 days ago, I've opted for the 5km for the first time. Really looking forward to it too!  LL
