Given that we generally have a Halloween party on that weekend, the Oktoberfest might be the safest option. :Silly:

Looking forward to this local run! Signed up today. Now, I really need to get down there and run the course. I have no excuse!

I've signed up for this one - 8km - checked the course this week and about 70% up or down with a particularly steep (but short) descent about 600m from the end of each lap. Should be interesting though - have been in PB territory these past 2 weeks so let's see what happens. Should be a fun morning anyway.

Oh, and if you're in PB territory you should be expecting to go close to sub 26 which will probably be around a minute ahead of me. Fossil, or is it brightshoes? ;)

Fossil for a long time now - since I do so much barefoot the shoes are no longer bright! On a good day 26 would be nice - won't be tapering though - should be a good hit out and fun after - my son and wife are here so will try to drag them into at least the 4km race :-)

Ok well hopefully the conditions will be fortuitous. I haven't as yet signed up for this as I'm concentrating more on the City2Sea coming up in three weeks and have been trying to select what races I go in a bit more judiciously . I have run the course though in practice in 27:30 so I was looking at the 27 mark being a good mark to aim for. Good luck to all the runners.

Weird request, but I am doing this run again this year and if anyone is taking a car and can place my bag in it during the run this would be appreciated.  I will be getting myself to the start and home afterwards, but last year I had a problem with my bag going missing.  It is the only run I participate in that has really poor luggage minding facilities, so if someone can help and ease my mind during the run it would be appreciated.

Not weird at all - I'll be there with my GF, my son and his wife - they won't mind minding your bag or putting it in the car :-) Say hi before the race - I look something like my CR picture LOL

I will have my car there so more than happy for it to be used as a storage facility if that makes it easier!

Going to have to see how the warm-up goes in the morning. Ran with sore glutes and the hamstring now sore. Probably shouldn't run but will do a really good warm up and then decide and try to be sensible. Will just enjoy the atmosphere and support if not running ...

Looks to be good weather apart from the moderate southerly blowing up the coast (hitting as runners ascend the main hill) hopefully there is a bit of cloud cover as 9:30 is a bit of a late start when it comes to fun runs. If you see a young man running like an old man; it's me, if you see an old bloke running like a young man; it's Fossil. Best of luck all.

Hopefull your glutes and hamstring feel a better in the next 24 hours, are you running Run4fun Fossil?

I really enjoyed this run today. Although, I wasn't really prepared for the long incline followed by the hill as you turn at the roundabout. Knowing this was coming up again, my second lap was pretty slow. I thought the race was pretty well organised. The start was a bit slow but this is a given since it is a fun run and lots of kids which was good to see.

Kookaburra - sorry I couldn't find you to leave your bag in my car. I was hunting around for a CR cap to no avail. Hope you found someone to mind it for you!

Well the hamstring was tight before but forgot about it in the race due to other pain! LOL Very sore glutes but delighted to get so close to Jeremy Horne - hope everyone else had a great day :Raised Eyebrow:

Had a bad stitch so walked up 300-400m of the hill. Lost a few minutes and plenty of places. I got up at 5:30am to have some special k and hadn't eaten in three plus hours so I don't know why I've been getting them in races... Maybe it's the change in breathing patterns and adrenaline/nerves. It was really quiet running without headphones, I didn't notice myself breathing just the grunting of others in their own personal worlds of pain. One took the time to expel a breathy 'come on, keep it up' which was appreciated. I have felt sluggish for the past few days so wasn't really expecting much out of the race. Good to see you went well Fossil with the strained muscles even if you are paying the price for it now!

Leyley, I never get stitches but I did today.  Breathing pattern definitely different going up the hills, particularly that long one where I pushed myself too hard just wanting to get it over with.  Mine was a mixture of a stitch and pain in my scapula region because I wasn't regulating my breathing properly, but I live to tell the tale.

I have only just arrived home to Eastwood (4.00pm).  Left Maroubra at 11.55am and ran for the bus, only to find that trains were indefinitely delayed in the City with no trains leaving Central, due to a person being injured at Lidcombe.   Apart from this major delay, enjoyed myself and was glad that the weather was kind to us.  I don't think I would have managed if the sun was glaring down on me.

Was also interesting to note one girl in the 10km, I was on my way back for the second lap having run right to the end.  When I go to the point where there was a sign for 4km people to turn off a few 8km decided to turn at this point, far too early.  The volunteer put them straight and they rectified their course.  One girl was about to turn back, but noticed the volunteer had missed her, so decided to stay on her short cut 8km run.  Little did she know that there was a timing matt at the 8km turn around point.

I didn't notice this with all the runners coming through but an interesting observation to say the least! I did notice there were a lack of marshals at the turning point (at the top of the hill on the second lap) but I still went up and around (including around a large family who was jogging up the 4km, people seemed to be going around the turning point left and right I almost ran into some people the second time around) the witches hats were confusing being moved on the first lap then there was some goose in a car on the way back down broome in the middle of the road while runners went left and right to avoid it. The conditions were good however with a slight breeze pity I couldn't make the most of them! Hopefully next year throws up similar conditions and cars don't make their way onto the course (at least whilst runners are coming through)

There were some incredible runners there yesterday. That long slow incline was tough, and the short sharp hill towards the end didn't really compensate! Either way, it was a damn good workout and I'll know better next year.

Ran a reasonable race. Ran the second l;ap a minute faster than the first so must have been slacking early.Although I ran 6 mins faster than last year and there were more runners I beat fewer runners home- Oh well -if I keep improving at this rate in 5 years time I will win the race. Good festival atmosphere and the German beer on tap went down very well. Will be back
