Women (or men I guess?!) wearing makeupAnd perfume!

I see quite a few girls out running caked in make up, with not a hair out of place and every time I just have to wonder why? Are they expecting to pick up a random stranger on the footpath as they jog by? Do they really not get how overpowering the smell of perfume is in their wake?
Does a face caked in makeup not hinder the sweating process? How do they not end up with a sweaty, drippy, runny mess of a face? Makeup must be a lot more resistant than I ever imagined!
Small note... I don't mean to sound anti-women, I marvel at the achievements of female runners just as much as my male counterparts. I am a bit anti-makeup and generally prefer my wife not wear any, she looks great au natural. But anyway, this is a soapbox, so I don't need to explain myself, right?!

I participate in the Aths Victoria winter and summer comps and notice that having a full face of makeup is pretty common amongst the younger girls, I put it down to a mixture of peer pressure ("everyone is doing it") and insecurity but it's pretty funny seeing it melt off their faces by the end of the meet.
Then again I wear very little makeup day to day aswell, I don't get it really, I've got good skin so why cover it up and who needs to spend all day fiddling and fussing and reapplying the stuff?

In saying that, I am not a big fan of perfume!!!!!
I hate being skunked when I am running.
Its all to do with your attitude, if you look good, you feel good, if you feel good, you will perform well.

I occasionally run with a friend and always surprised by her eyeliner until I remember she had it tattooed on. Looks weird.

Too true. Can't stand the smell of smoke. Walked past someone the other day smoking after I had run 30km and It was revolting...
As for the makeup, only ever have it on if I'm running after work and can't be bothered taking it off. The sweat pretty much does that anyway.

Many of us men do put stuff on before we leave for a long run too - vaseline (even if you can't perform puppetry you need to be safe down there), sunscreen, deoderant and of course bandaids (on nipples).
The girls may need their own tricks.

Sure, anybody can do whatever they want, that's their right and nothing to do with me. Doesn't mean i'm going to understand why though and I posted wondering that, what the thinking was behind wearing the stuff. Seems pointless to me, but maybe you makeup wearing folks think i'm some kind of hobo for rolling out of bed, putting my kit on and going out of the door without preening myself lol.

I certainly couldn't imagine wearing it while running and I don't understand why people would (but that's their choice).
the way I look at it, the time I save by not putting on make up (or doing my hair) in the morning is more time I get to spend running, and the more time I get to spend running means the faster I become!
Do I look like a troll in day to day life because of this? Probably. Do I care? No!

For myself, I wear some make up to work (personal preference) and if I go for a run or go to the gym after work I'm not going to waste the time to wash my face first - I'll do that after! In the mornings, the less that I need to do before getting out the door the better

I like to wear makeup when I go out (i.e. socially, work etc.) but the first thing I do when I get home is wipe it all off - nothing feels better than a clean face.
I've always thought it would be bad for your skin to run with it on because it would clog all your pores, and on race day I'm more worried about running well than about flawless looking skin!
Having said that, I am almost surgically addicted to my sunglasses when running because I feel more comfortable when wearing them - maybe that's how some women feel about makeup.
As for perfume, I never wear the stuff. I do wear Pure Fiji body butters/oils/lotions which have a scent - not sure how strong it is when I run past people.

I'm definitely not anti-make-up though. I wear moderate amounts of it to work every day. So I guess that makes me enjoy my running make-up free even more!

Not a big fan of makeup on women, however wont judge them because they wear it. Good on you for going to that much effort for the run. Me Im to lazy to do anything like that. I cant even remember the last time I did my hair before a run!
As Seris put, I cant stand being at the start of a race and people havent put deodorant on! it is disgusting! Male or Female! the stench is awful. I would prefer perfume! I have started saying out loud "yuk!! Use deodorant before a race please" out loud to give people the hint!

PS if women want to run without pants that is also up to them!

Seriously? So just because someone doesn't wear makeup (to go running or otherwise) they deserve to have their partner cheat on them?
I strongly, strongly disagree.

I for one use my run as a time of solitude, not to encourage onlookers to spoil it.

But each to their own, whatever makes you feel good, you don't need to justify it to others.

I'm a bit disturbed at people turning up to events smelly, even if they forgot the deo. Even if you ran there, you still should only smell of fresh sweat, not a stench. Or am I weird for showring before an event?

I must sit somewhere between the extreme of makeup-every-waking-minute and none at all. I wear it most days (but not running obviously) but equally as comfortable without it.
My ex-asshat husband cheated on me but not because of 'letting myself go'...simply because he's a complete and utter tool. I actually hope I meet my future partner just after a 20km run. If he can fall for me at my sweaty worst...
I actually cannot believe your other half has never seen you without makeup ponytail. Do you sleep in makeup? How do you pull it off? I'm not having ago but it must get tiring..

Ok, let me rephrase for you UB... I actually hope I meet my future partner after I've just spent 3 hours getting ready for the races and I'm wearing a new $400 dress. If he can fall for me at my tizzy worst...
