Glad I saw this thread, I didn't get an email about entries opening for some reason and had totally forgotten it was due. I've sent a pre-qual form off to try for seeded, if not I'm sure I'll get preferred. Need to get some fitness going after having some time off for injury in the first couple of months of the year but I'm looking forward to another crack after going 50:01 last year.

Based on my current fitness, my Mcmillan Running App suggests 77 min

Aim will be to go sub-70.

Has anyone had issues with bib postage - either this year or in previous years? I paid for bib postage but it appears my bib has been lost in the post. I've been told they can't send another one, and I have to either collect it on the day or from the expo prior. I live on the central coast so both would be a huge pain. Am I right to keep whinging or should I just suck it up?

Mine arrived a few weeks ago - I hope they are refunding the postage cost?

You can get someone else to collect it for you

Saw something on FB yesterday - Smirnoff Vodka for celebrating crossing the finish line..... REALLY???  The major message has been about fitness, fundraising and being healthy, then Fairfax brings vodka cruisers on board as a sponsor and (presumably) put them in a prominent position in the post-race corral...... Am I the only one that sees the problem here?

Good luck to all on Sunday.....

Vodka and running. Maybe there is a place but as for a sponsor of a running event - not the wisest choice in my opinion. Alcholol is part of our society and in itself alcohol is not the issue it is how it is so abused by so many. Being a lawyer I also see the direct and indirect cost to peoples lives, property and to society in general that alcohol causes.

I got an email from city2surf .. my reading is that you've got to bring your own cup for drinks? Anyone able to confirm or deny this?

I read it as an option not compulsory.
Great idea for the walkers. For runners, hopefully they move to bio-degradable containers.
20 years or so ago organisers were noting that the cups were being recycled into polar fleece and park benches.

Pretty nervous. If I don't go sub 60 tomorrow after my third crack at it, I'll be very disappointed.

Think I've decided to run with a hydration belt for the first time ever in a road race. I've been weighing up whether or not carrying the extra weight (less than 500g) is going to slow me down more than slowing down at drink stations. Looking at the course map, I would probably hit 4 drink stations, I'm a big sipper. Anyway, see how I go.

As for the Smirnoffs post race, sounds good to me. I'm not a big drinker, and never have been, but I'll gladly enjoy a roadie for my trek back to my car at the Domain. Hopefully you don't need ID and this 33 year old can pick one up by looking his age.

74.43 for me which didn't qualify me for red start again next year but I'm very chuffed with the time regardless.
Haven't been able to run more than 10k in the last 9 months and was only able to train properly the last 6 weeks so I'm very happy with my time and this is just the start of going back into proper running.
Hope everyone else had fun and got the time they wanted.

If you ran sub 70 last year, you can still use that to get into red next year I think.

I used my 2015 time to get into red this year as I was out for 11 months with a knee injury in 2016.

Thanks :)

I got my red entry for this year through my 67mins in 2015. Didn't run city2surf last year as we did the pyramid run in Cairns which was on the same weekend.
I'm confident I will meet the time for red in the upcoming 12 months with another race once I had a chance to train more.

Stoked! Soooo was not expecting that time! Started in red and I thought I was close enough to the front but no. I was held up a lot for the first km, but by km 2 I had more space to overtake. Kept the pace pretty comfortable - hard, but comfortable. Then HBH, and slowed right down and let the others overtake and overtook some. Running hills is not my specialty, so thought it best to just relax on this section.

I remembered that there were a few kms after HBH where there were a few nasty hills, but I didn't find them too bad. Then came the big downhill. My calf then decided it didn't like the downhill, so I had to ease up and not push too hard as it felt as though it might cramp. Then onto the flat and the turn around. I was 500m from the finish line when someone yelled "Push! Push for a sub 60". It was the first time I thought I might be anywhere near 60. My aim had been 61. Due to the undulating course and having my watch on lap time, I had no idea of my time. Pushed a little harder and got a sub 60!!! 59:25!!! Didn't think I had that in me - for another year at least. Stoked!

72:33 slightly faster than expected. Next year will get back in the red. On the plus side today was the first time I've not had a walk on Heartbreak Hill (even in my much faster years).

49:17 for me, first time under 50 after running 50:01 last year. Pretty happy with that, getting me back on track. I've had a pretty good progression in my C2S runs with times getting faster each time: 2009 77:55, 2010 63:33, 2011 60:07, 2012 57:38, 2013 53:48, 2016 50:01 and 2017 49:17.

Probably won't maintain that many more years!

Well done all!

That is eerily very similar to my progression, Maffrew.

2013: 76:05
2014: 61:39
2015: 60:28
2017: 57:31

I couldn't ever imagine going anywhere near sub 50, that is a super time. And the rest of your PBs, can't see myself getting anywhere near.

First City to Surf for me. Ive been wanting to do this race for more than 25 years so to actually get to the start line was a feat in itself.

I managed to snag a preferred start with a qualifying time at last years City to South so didn't have to worry about the congestion. The course was much hillier than I thought it would be but HBH wasn't as bad as I imagined. I struggled a bit on the undulations after HBH and went through 10k in about 38 flat. My calculations had me finishing in around 53:30 but that downhill finish was a blessing and I crossed the line in 52:17 and 3rd in my age group.

If they didn't do a medal at all and made the entry cheaper, that would suit me.

So, $66.75 instead of $67.00?  :Silly:
