I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5.

This is my first pair of Brooks after wearing Asics in the past.

I just went over 500k+ in the Adrenalines, and the midsole seems kind of "flat", and also the heal lining has worn through. I have loved the Brooks up to now - but now they seem to be thier ground.

Anyone have any experience with Brooks Adrenaline?

I got my adrenalins on the 20th May and I haven't experienced any problems with them. The cushioning seems good and they feel excellent so far.

I've had about 3 or 4 pairs of Adrenalines and have had no problems at all. I'm not a person who counts their total K's so couldn't tell you how long they last. Generally I have found the forefoot cushioning to go first, but that may just be my footstrike.

Hi Joe,

I have worn Asics for many years; preferring them over Brooks because they fit my narrower feet better.

Notwithstanding, I reckon Brooks make good shoes & Mrs. Lostboy will wear nothing else. (mmmmm Maybe I could have put that better ;) )

From my experience, I would be changing over @ 500km anyway; for what it's worth, I'm a heavier (90kg) runner.

The flat midsole may be normal for that many km's, but I wonder if the worn lining @ rear may be a fit problem with you(?)

I also reckon Greybeard is pretty spot-on with rotating several pairs of shoes, especially running most days @ this time of year. (@ the moment I change over 2-pairs of identical Asics c/w texta ID mark on one.)

Anyway, Good luck with that one :)

My adrenelines have gone over the 500k mark and I am having the same problems as you, the lining ripped at the back a few weeks ago, but so did the lining in my Loco Mojo's so I put it down to swapping my orthotics in and out of the shoes, but can't confirm it, or could be something to do with me? I am also starting to feel the impact a bit more but will persist them for a while longer. They have been a great shoe so far.

I haven't tried the latest version Joe but recently used the Adrenalines for 2 years including training for a marathon. I found them to be very similar to the Asics 2000 series and just as good. I went back to the Asics 2100 a couple of months ago only because I got a really good price (40% off).

In general I have found shoes wear much better if you let them dry out between runs. I currently cycle through 3 pairs covering short/long runs and speedwork.

Have also had no problems with them with around 1200k's done in latest pair. Comfortable and have done better than my last pair which where kayanos.

I`m a big fan of the Adrenalines, I`m on probably my 5th maybe 6th pair and have been fortunate enough not to have had any troubles with wear/ tearing, even the pairs relegated to gardening duties still look in reasonable nick and I`m an orthotic wearer as well

I've been through 4 or 5 pairs with no complaints. The outsole and uppers seem very durable, but I feel the shoe starts to feel a bit "dead" once I get beyond 800kms. Usually relegate them to trail runs or shorter easy runs from then on, and switch to a newer pair for eveything else.

Currently trying out the Brooks "Burn" too. So far so good - significantly lighter than the Adrenaline but still plenty of cushioning & support for longer runs.

Also I forgot to say Brooks have changed the design of many of their shoes. I had to go from vapour to adrenalins due to the fact they have narrowed the midsole of the vapour for this years range. So what was once a 'perfect' fit may no longer be for those who have worn multiple pairs of brooks of the same model.

On a slightly ironic note isn't it strange that an american company would call a shoe adrenaline when the hormone is called epinephrine in the US (and that is because someone trademarked the name adrenaline)!!

I have a pair, I think I got them just before Christmas. Compared to the Nike & Saucony I also have, they are my favourite pair of shoes to date. I did the GC half in them yesterday, and after 6 months and half dozen or so races in them they will now probably lose their 'number one' status on the rotation. I would definitely look to buy another pair of the same model though :)

I think that if you find a good shoe then you should stick to it. I have ran in Brooks all along. T3 racer, st racer, Adrenaline and trance. I rotate through them and I havent had an injury yet. Touch wood. I feel that you shouldnt change a winning or injury free combination...

;)

I picked up a pair last week - very comfortable, good fit in the heel (many shoes are a bit slippy for my feet - including the mighty kayano) but I think they are a bit too wide in the mid section. Haven't gone for a run in them outside - just up and down the hallway - but I get the feeling I'm moving sideways in them, and that's at a very slow 'inside the house' pace!

Anyone know if a narrow, stability shoe actually exists? My feet could have had a party in all the extra room in the Asics I tried (Kayanos, 2100s, 1100s) - and the Brooks Vapor 6 was better, but still not snug.

But the adrenaline sure looks and feels good when I'm not moving in it!!

I like the GTS5's that I've got but have only done around 200kms odd and have had no problems yet. I can normally do around 1000+km in a pair before they get relegated to other duties.

The heel lining in all of my runners has always worn away but I can't remember when this actually happens. I've worn both Asics 20XX's & Brooks Adrenalines GTS 3/4/5's.

I am just a chocolate muffin under 78kgs, and have had 4 pairs of Brooks Adrenalines in my last 6 shoe purchases.

I have pretty dodgy achilles from time to time, and these seem to be far and away the best shoes for me. I love em. I have gotten the following kms out of each pair:

502
561
544
163 not out

I guess I only have a 500+ expectation, so any shortish life doesn’t worry me much.

I have gone from Asics GT2090s that wore right through the soft lining on my heel with only 278 km on the clock, to Adrenalines that have clocked 442 km. Still have some wear at my heel but nothing like the Asics. I think I have a narrow heel as I find it impossible to stop heel movement without cutting off the circulation!!!

I also use fairly wide orthotics that are harsh on the lining along the mid-foot area and the Brooks are hanging in there against the carbon fibre. Starting to think that I need some new shoes though.

There had been a thread discussing heel wear and a suggestion was to get a thin layer of leather placed around the heel area.

Cheers, Faz.

There is a way of lacing up your shoes that reduces ankle slippage without actually restricting bloood flow. Lace normally until you get to the second last hole. On both sides then don't cross over but rather go straight up creating a loop on both sides then cross over and put the end of the laces through the loops. When you pull this tight this should create extra ankle support and minimise slippage. I use this on one side of my shoes and it has always worked for me.

For many years I have been an ASICS wearer (DS Trainers, Kayanos and 2100 series - rotating between 2 pairs).

About 18 months ago I decided to try the Adrenaline. After wearing them for a few months I ended up with a stress fracture of the third metatarsal. I have never been injured to this extent before. Had 3 months off, threw the Adrenalins in the bin, and switched back to ASICS. I have been injury free since then.

Now a caveat - I can't say absolutely that the shoes were the "killer". I did 'up' my KMs and increase intensity at the same time - which is always dangerous. So, it may have happened in the ASICS in any event. Or, it may have been my feet and my build - narrow feet and smallish build (55kg + - 2kgs depending on training schedule and my love of hot chips), so I am more suited to the ASICS.

So, the moral of all my waffle - go with something you know - don't change unless you have a valid reason.
Cheers
