I bought a pair of Kayano XI's early this year, I did around 150-200km in them before noticing that on the left sole, around the ball of my foot the appeared to be a split between the white rubber sole and the grey part of the sole where they mated. I took them back to REBEL Sport and they gladly exchanged them for a new pair, no questions asked.
I have now done around 75kn inthe new pair and they appear to be doing the same thing. I looked at my wifes Kayano's and they look as if the have a similar imperfection, but not as pronounced.
Has anyone else had this problem and is it a know flaw in what I consider to be a great shoe?

Haven't come across that problem. I've done about 450k in mine and I reckon they're the best Kayano model in years. Thinking about buying another pair, actually.

Only done 30k in my new ones, no problems so far. Like Vat_man, was considering buying another pair.

610 defect free km's in mine.
Just noticed there is a tiny tear in the netting on the top - but put this down to normal wear and tear given about half my km's are on bush tracks.
Cheers, 2P

Hi bullet,
I haven't come across that one either, I have 2 pairs, the first has 600km on them and the second approx 150km. Neither have any issues.

Mine have now clocked up 1,266 klms and are due for retirement. I have had no problems at all just starting to wear on the balls of the foot.
Would get another pair as they have lasted well and have been problem free.

Go to ASICS directly & check out the returns policy .By phone or go to their warehouse.Asics could check out the authenticity of the shoes etc.At least they should be made aware of the defect.

Can't stand the shoe (in general) myself. When I had one of the models a year ago, ASIC then acknowledged that there was a likely manufacturing fault which could have possibly contributed to causing the stress fracture I got at the time. I steer well clear of the shoe and have since had no problems. I also found them way too heavy.

I have had a pair of Kayano's now for a few months and have had no end of dramas. First the blisters on the left heel, then the blisters on the left toes, then blisters inside blisters etc.. I did a long run (28k) a month ago and noticed after about 15k that there was a lump, for want of a better word, under the ball of my right foot. I am doing the Gold Coast Half Marathon and am wondering do I risk buying a new pair of shoes, as my back up pair squeak when I run (I have been told they are due for the bin even though they have not done that many k's - maybe about 300), or do I grit my teeth and put up with the feeling of the lump and the burning sensation it gives the ball of my foot? Any ideas?

I don't wear them myself (tried them about 5 years ago, got blisters.) but have heard alot of people have trouble with them. Seems alot of people wear them because they've got the reputation as the best running shoe, problem is, they might not be the best for your foot. Athletes foot 'fitprint' is one way to combat this.
