This page on the running guide has a short section to answer this frequently asked question.
I would appreciate the Melbourne runners editing to make it more thorough.

wobbly man and other interested lurkers in Melbourne,
It would be good to add some more details to the "" page, with a similar degree of detail that I put in for the Sydney version, ie phone numbers, weblinks. I also ordered it so that the "pure" running stores were ahead of the chain shoe stores, which were ahead of the more peripheral-to-running stores eg good bike/accessory stores/camping stores etc.
The format needn't be the same as the Sydney one, but it would be good that in future if some asked a question we can just send them the link, and if a store opens or closes someone just quickly add it to the list.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

To be honest I don't think there is much more to put on the page, Stringer Sports, Runner's World in Kew & Leo Russell, as well Vic Markets, with eBay where else could you buy good shoes at a good price. For me no where else, unless the 'chain' stores are having a special!

A new store is "Active Feet" in High St - it is run by podiatrists. They claim to do gait analysis to identify what shoes will work best for you.
The address is 477 High St Prahran.
