Hi,

How does the Trance go vs the Adrenaline for cushioning? I've started running again after a long lay off (shin splints). I was using Kayano VII but switched to Adrenaline’s which I find a lot more squishy and prefer over the harder Kayano's.

Athletes Foot did the pressure test and found that I am a fore foot over-pronator. And that I strike the fairly hard with forefoot (well, all over really). So recommended some shock absorbing insoles which I have purchased.

They didn't have a pair of Kayano's that fit me so I got some Adrenaline's instead on their recommendation and I must say that I like them.

Cheers
Ollie

After 4 pairs of Kayanos over several years, I tried on the Trance at Athlete's Foot at Centerpoint. Love it. Have been running with the Trace + inserts for overpronating for a week now and they're a ripper.
As you said, softer shell for the Trance. And you can press the gel-cushioning thing and watch it squish around in the window all day.
Sorry, never tried the Adrenelaine so can't compare.

Howdy - I have used the Adrenaline for a while now - love 'em to bits (their current condition :D ).

Apparently a new version coming out in June / July timeframe, but only with minor modifications to current model.

www.runhappy.com.au has all the details.

I also over-pronate (as my name suggests :D ). I converted to the Brooks Adrenaline last year after wearing Gel Kayanos for a couple of years and noticed a big difference in terms of the weight of the shoe compared to the Kayanos. There is good midsole support. I don't know if others have found this, but are the Kayano's getting heavier?

I don't know of the actual weight specs, but I've found that the Adrenalines to be extremely light compared to Asics 2070/2080's. More comfortable and just better all round feel to them. In terms of forefoot striking/running, I think some manufacturers make specific model for this sort of thing but don't know of any details.

I've used the adrenaline for quite a long time now - I have tried a couple other types of shoe, but always end up going back to the Adrenaline. It really seems to suit me and it never rubs anywhere. When I was first introduced to the Adrenaline in a running shop, I also tried many other types of shoe to get the right type for me, but I could feel all of the other shoes on my feet. With the adrenaline it was by far the best and I couldn't feel it - perfect for me!

Haven't tried the Trance yet - but let me know if you think its good. :)

Just bought the Trance Shoes a couple of weeks ago and they have been very hard to get used to. Felt good in the shop - yes - but I find the balls of my feet become very painful as I head into close to an hour of running and bought the Trance under strong recommendation re extra cushioning to help that complaint. Am training for the Half and feeling frustrated at having possibly wasted my money and not managing to get my mileage up because of this pain. Thinking I might spend another $50 to get those super dooper insoles and give 'em another go - that makes them a $300 pair of shoes !!! Any helpful hints ?

Hey Lizzy T,
I have the same slight painful feeling on the base of my left foot when I wear my new Trance's, which I also had when I got my previous pair of Kayanos. It feels a lot like pins&needles, like when you have poor circulation in ski boots (which I've also experienced).

I have a fancy anti-pronating insole I bought from Athletes foot for $50 ($2 of material, $48 of good advice).

Good news is - the feeling went away in 2 weeks in the Kayanos, and its also lessing in the Trances after a week. I think the action of running helps the sole mold to your feet.

Good luck in the half

I don't strike with my forefoot first (does anyone?) It's just that it seems that I put a lot of pressure on the forefoot as I run - I guess I clomp down on it too hard. Well this is according the Athletes Foot foot print. I'll be seeing a podiatrist in the next couple of weeks anyway. But these Adrenalines have certainly made feel like going runing - shin splints or not. They certainly give the impression that your forefoot is on a more stable platform.

I have been running in Kayano's for over 5-6 years and just recently switched to the Trance for some more support and longevity.

I found the Kayanos were very comfortable even when new although didn't seem to last long before they got tired and worn out (500km).

I initially found the Trance to be a little stiff (mainly due to the thicker fore foot) although after a couple of 20km runs they are starting to feel really comfortable.

Very snug around the ankle and fore foot.

Haven't noticed any problems but only running 60km per week.

I had the Adrenalines for a while, and then picked up a pair of the Trance when they were on sale. The Trance are a narrower fit, and although they felt fine in the shop - if I ran in them for more than 1/2 hour my foot would start to tingle and go numb. So now I'm back in the Adrenalines and much happier.

If you have a very broad foot - it might be the fit, not the cushioning that is making it uncomfortable.

I recently switched to Adrenalines (thanks Tesso) after wearing out my old 2080's. They felt fantastic from the first wearing. Very stable, supportive & cushioned. Wore them in the half ironman last weekend & never gave my feet another thought (probably cos my legs higher up were ganging up on me & trying to cramp). :)
