Hi all,
I have been wearing Asics Kayano for 5+ years now and usually buy a new pair every 6-7 months and have been very happy with them.
However, just recently I purchased the latest Kayano 12's and they are causing me to have a lot of pain in my left shin. They are quite a bit different in shape/look to my old Kayano 11's, 10's and 9's that are all stashed in my cupboard.
Has anyone else had trouble with the new Kayano 12's?? Also, can you suggest any different shoes that have a comparable feel to the older Kayanos that I might try??
Thanks for your help, I am feeling rather frustrated with Asics at the moment.
RSR. :)

RSR - it seems odd that it's presented as an assymetrical problem. I'd have thought if there was an issue with the shoes that it would have presented on both sides.
The changes to the Kayano have been pretty extensive over the last few years - 8 to 9 was a big change, and 10 to 11 was a pretty big change as well - so the fact that you've not had problems with model changes previously is interesting. I've gone to lighter shoes (DS Trainers) from the series XI Kayanos so can't comment specifically on the 12s.
That said, a few people have commented that the 12 was a pretty big change from the 11s, and the new shoes may have highlighted an underlying issue that has been sub-sympomatic. It might be worth chatting to a podiatrist or physio that specialises in running - the Melbourne CRs might be able to help on that front.
Good luck!

Hi RunSammieRun,
I experienced a simular problem with Asics GT series with all going well from the GT2040's up to the GT2070's. When Asics relased the GT2080's they totally redesigned the mid foot cradle system. The change gave me shin problems in my right foot and after 100Km's I could no longer run in them as my shines were getting more painful by the day. I changed to Saucony's and have since run in Brooks Aderniline, Mizuno's, Reeboks with great success and no shin problems even though my mileage has increased. By the way, I also wear orthotics so I don't know if this helps you any. I really wish I could run in Asics as I think they're a great shoe but there are many others, it's just a case of moving outside the comfort zone. Good luck.
Regards, SMC

[/indent]this is interesting, my time has come for new runners and I went down to Active feet yesterday and I get perusaded to try a pair of Brooks Trance, after using Kayano XI for the last couple of years, went for a run this morning and had all sorts of problems with the Trance, felt like running barefoot on concrete, ITB flaired up and hip pain as well, so I went back and swapped them for a pair of Kayano XII, going to give them a go next week, but alternate between the XI and XII's, I noticed the XII are a LOT lighter, apparently just different material, they felt the same to wear and on the treadmill. The Brooks I might try again, but was not the right time for me this time.
*fingers crossed* that the XIIs give me the support and feel the XI's gave me.

I have heard a few people complain re the V12 and shin pain, for me, no probs and I love them. I wonder if I have had no problems as i am also a DS Trainer wearer and I think they are very similar???
Are there others who have the 'cheddar' DS Trainer and the V12 who think the same?

Another thing this highlights is the benefit of having two pairs of different shoes on rotation - at least you've got something to fall back on if they radically change a model!

You're spot on mikeymelb, the XII's are a lot lighter than any of the previous Kayanos I've worn. Maybe Asics has sacrificed cushioning for weight with this new model??
