Just thought I'd let anyone who's interested know that I picked up a pair of New Balance 1220's for Mrs Dooley today for $99. I got them from my regular shoe guy at Queen Victoria Markets:
Pacha Noori Shoes

Stall E61 Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun
New Balance have just brought out the 1221's so he seems to be able to offer a bigger discount than usual. I usually buy discontinued Kayano's and they only get discounted to $160 from about $170.
I have no idea how many 1220's he has but just thought I'd post it as it seems like such a good saving.
Very cheap New Balance 1220's (Melb)

I checked them out today. Pacha says the NB 1220 would be an equivalent shoe to the Asics 2090. WOndering if anyone would care to comment on that, because that's a $30-40 saving on the 2090 price.

No way.. IMHO.The 1220 had a softer heel counter in the latter production shoes for a stability shoe. The 2090/80 is/was completly different.I used both .Talk to a specialist shop owner who runs, has been in business for years to get an experts opinion as to why the 1220 is reduced in price. And the 1221 is different again ?.Always check with the shoe company if the retail outlet is an accredited dealer to protect your consumer rights in case of a fault or you are mislead. You can return shoes but New Balance have to ok the replacement.New Balance are based in Melbourne. You should run test each model imho.

Consistent1,
Rebel and Amart sports still have 2090 on sale at $169 so if it's more of the same that you are after don't risk a change of shoe just for the dollars.
Just on that though I think the shape of the 2090 is different to the 2080 - a slightly "pointier" toe section which makes them a slighlty firmer fit for those of us with wide feet. Still, 100k later and they feel comfortable.
