Recently bought a pair of Brooks Adrineline shoes. Have always run in Asics Kayanos but bawlked at the price and went for the Brooks. They feel good but the evening and day after a run (10KM) I have sore calves or calf (alternate legs). Suggestions as to why?

Big Bird, I also wear Adrenalines and previously Kayanos. I found the Adrenalines took quite a bit of 'wearing in' compared to other shoes. The 'second half' of their shoe life I loved them. I now have Radius which is a great shoe.

I think your calf soreness is probably due to running too far in the shoes on the first run. Give them time to 'break in' and I'm sure your calves will like them.

I've also recently changed to Adrenalines from Kayanos and also had problems with sore calves. Not badly sore but enough to be anoying. However now that I've been running in them for a few weeks they're starting to feel good. I'm still in the Kayanos for longer stuff and working the Adrenalines up to it.

Calf soreness when changing shoes can be caused by a change in the coordination required with a shoe with different heel height to forefoot height differential or even with a different flexion spot. It should improve within a week or so as you get used to running a little differently. It is just a type of DOMS due to unacustomed activity. This is a good reason to have two different pirs of shoes that you alternate so that you do not get into the rut of moving the same all the time. If it does not get better you may have the wrong shoe. Not an easy thing to predict when you buy the shoes.

Thanx one and all for the advice. Will persevere and see how I go with the Brooks. It may just be a case of being patient and wearing them in.
Again, many thanx
