Hi all,
I am running my first marathon in Canberra. What worries me is not the distance i have a good base to work from and am hoping to break 3.30. What gets me is what my body does you see i am a sweaty boy it goes everywhere. You may sat so what we all do but my dilemma is my shoes after from 15-25km they get waterlogged and rub my feet. Any tips from runners with the same prob.

Get some good socks. Coolmax or other synthetic fibres (or wool) wick the moisture away from your foot and don't absorb the water like cotton socks do. I wear Target coolmax socks. They are the best cheap coolmax socks available. Otherwise go for Thorlos, Injinji, high end ASICS or other similar socks, but these are expensive.
You may also want to find shoes with better breathability or drainage. My Mizunos breathe pretty well, but I'm sure most of the other brands have models with excellent sweat elimination properties.

I sweat heaps too, but don't notice any waterlogging in the feet. I do wear Thorlos mainly, so can vouch for their good wicking properties. Worst effect is that if I'm running trails - which I generally am for the long training runs or ultras - then the dust mixes with the dampness being wicked into the shoes, so it looks like I've been running through mud, and leaves my shoes looking very grubby and in need of a good wash <_< .

Try spraying your feet with men's antiperspirant, that helps me.
Also - bad news - Target seems to have stopped making their great coolmax socks (the blue ones). <_< I have just bought a paur of the new black ones that are supposed to be coolmax too but haven't tried them. Hope they're as good (even though they're not as pretty) :)

i have an alternative idea; i believe that sweat does not necessarily equal wet shoes:
sweat = sean williams endurance and training.
but if both wet shoes and sean williams endurance and training are proven to equal sweat we can solve simultaneously:
sweat = wet shoes

(sweat - sweat =) 0 = wet shoes - 'sean williams endurance and training'.
adding 'sean williams endurance and training' to both sides:
sean williams endurance and training = wet shoes
therefore we can deduce that sean williams endurance and training is equivalent to wet shoes.
If this is correct i must train with wet shoes then...

in long races, change your socks every three hours, and wash salt crystals and sweat off skin quickly. if someone helping, you can do it in 40 secs.
in short races, wash your feet 10 mins before start. minimises perspiration on start line.
