Hello everyone, It's been years since I ran, but I've just moved the the Gold Coast and maybe it's the salty air, but something in me has decided to hit the track once again! I want to compete in the 10k run of the marathon (maybe the 2006 event, cause this year's race is getting closer fast!). So it's time to hit the shops for a new pair of runners and start training.
Is there a retailer on the GC that anyone can recommend? I pronate a bit, but not too much, and don't want to get caught out by someone trying to fill their weekly quota rather than help me find the right shoe.
Good Gold Coast shop for a newbie?

Hi Darth,
I've found Hayden at The Athlete's Foot in Surfers (Centro, Cavill Mall) pretty good or Peter from the Nike Shop at Robina Town Centre.
If you like Nike shoes then Peter will have the Nike van at the Sanctuary Cove Fun Run (10km and 5km) this weekend and you can trial a pair for free!
There's just under 11 weeks to go until the Gold Coast Airport Marathon - plenty of time to get into some sort of shape for the 10km!!
Good luck with finding some shoes!

Thanks mate, I went to a shop today and the salespeople were quite helpful, let me know I'm a 'normal' pronator, so no Brooks Beast for me!
They steered me away from the Kayanos though...they threw me a pair of 1100s to compare with a pair of Nike Air Structure and a pair of Brooks Vapor 6...
I found the nikes a bit 'spongy' - but quite controlling. The brooks were a bit heavy, but the best out of the three for my feet - all around the $160 mark. I went to another shop where I was left to my own devices and grabbed a pair of Kayanos (I mean, I had to try them on, seeing they are the most talked about shoe around here) and they weren't too bad at all. I had one 2100 and one Kayano on the other foot for comparison, and they were both pretty good, except for the fact the shop didn't have the half size I needed for a bit of extra toe room. So I came home empty handed, but more informed, and still overwhelmed by the choice out there!
Gosh, it's not the most fun thing to go buy a pair of running shoes!

Just pick a pair they recommend and go for it. Athletes foot have a policy of being able to test em out and return or swap if not satisfied so go to them and see what they recommend i reckon.

Dont pick a pair of shoes based only on what those ninnies recommend!
Before you throw 160 bucks at these eejits, ask them what their background is, when they last ran, and what they run in? You will soon find that most of the shop people are fools. Having said that some of the people at the Nike Robina shop seemed to have a few brain cells. I have never found anyone at the athletes foot with more intelligence than the average toilet fly.
price doesnt always = whats right for you. There must be basics listed in here somewhere. Follow those to foot/leg nirvana.
