I have always worn Nike Cross Trainers & am about to start running (yeah!!)

Are these suitable for someone just starting out running or should I look into getting trainers for just running?

Any comments or advice would be really appreciated - don't want to look like a nong when I get down to the sports store.

Also wanted to ask if anyone has been to (I think it is) Footlocker or Athletes Foot & tried that electronic foot thing (sorry, not sure what it is called). It's where you walk on the pad & it shows your foot on the screen & they can select the best pair of runners/trainers for your foot??

Not sure if it is any good - I have only seen the ads. Looked interesting though??

Hi Razy,

I definitely have my runners for running and my cross trainers for aerobics/cycling/weights/whatever. I actually ran in my cross trainers yesterday b/c I'd left my runners at home and it was horrible! The different shoes give different kinds of support so it's best to make sure you get the right ones to reduce the risk of injury.... I have been told to go to Athletes foot when I get my next pair but I do love my Nike Trail Pegasus - soooo comfy ;)

Sorry can't be more help!

That's what I thought - thanks so much for your reply.

I think I'll head down to whichever one it is that has that machine & see what they say :)

On another thread on Athletes Foot Tim wrote

the thing that really stands out re the Athlete's foot pressure pad is that they get people to walk across it. Now I am no expert but I am thinking that you run different then you walk. So the system may be fine if you were buying shoes to walk in.
Maybe you could do a test and walk across it and then run across it and see what the differences are. Better still first off ask the staff member what they have found when they tried to do the same. If they say they have never tried it then I would go to another shop since they obviously do not have any passion or imagination.

Thanks Pabags - I have actually written in the same thread & agree.

I ended up getting mine from Rebel Sports & they almost feel like I am not wearing any!

So, I'll be lacing up my Brooks tomorrow morning for a nice stroll/jog/stroll ;)

Nothing like a nice stroll/jog/stroll in a shiny new pair of runners!

Have fun
:)
