My wife wears out her shoes almost exclusively on the ball of her foot. She currently has Brooks Radius, which she finds quite comfortable, but she has almost worn through to the sockliner while the heal is still pristine! Does anyone know of a neutral running shoe that has a very durable forefoot? My mizuno mustangs have a reasonably durable forefoot, but I was thinking maybe something like the Brooks Adrenalin ASRs (actually stability trail running shoes) because of their more solid soles. Any ideas?
Durable forefoot shoes?

I have exactly the same problem.
I am a toe runner and have previously worn brooks radius religiously. Unfortunately the forefoot wears way too quickly and becomes very uncomfortable after about 250 - 300km. I found the mizuno wave creations were better, but the best shoes i have tried so far are the brooks glycerine. These are now my prefered choice for long runs, and have lasted much better than the radius ever did. I will still buy the radius (can't beat them on special) but i will probably use them exclusively for shorter races.
The problem with the brooks seems to be that the second layer of cushioning is open to the road surface for much of the forefoot. Because of this it wears thin much quicker than the glycerins which have more forefoot outer grip rubber.
Interestingly enough, all my shoes gave me problems until i started using two pairs in rotation. Based on posts at CR, the consensus was that most shoes needed 48 hours to recover. I found this was especially the case with Asics Gel Nimbus and the Radius. Maybe consider a few pairs at once?

Thanks for that Gefjam. We'll check them out. My wife really likes the comfort in the Brooks but they're not for me.
Anyone else got any suggestions other than Brooks?

Have a look at adidas supernova.
Prior to Brooks Glycerin was Hyperion which were great. The Glycerin are very narrow in the forefoot and straight. The Hyperion wasn't and was my preferred shoe.
The Adidas would only be suitable I think if you have very broad feet.
I used to only get about 400ks out of Asics but the Adidas seem fairly good for mileage.

Might be worth taking a look at the Adidas range. I run on my toes, and the Supernova Cushion and Adistar cushion have been fairly good.

Thanks guys. This info seems consistant with the advice given at the shop that my wife went to. They suggested the Brooks Glycerine and the Adidas Supernova. I guess it will come down to what she finds comfortable as well.
