I have always been loyal to the Asics Kayano model, but would like to know what in the other brands is on par and competes with the latest Kayano?

Try a pair of Brooks Adrenaline.
I had one pair of Kayano's and didn't like them - I prefer the Asics 20XX range.

I've been running 30 yrs and Nike Pegasus have been around for about 20 of them, yet I only got my first pair last September.

It's a neutral shoe, so not equiv to Kayano exactly, but most runners who wear control shoes (myself included in past) probably don't need that much control (i.e. better off with acustomised neutral if any biomech probs).

But in terms of comfort, feel, running, niggles, injuries(touch wood) etc it ranks as one of , if not the best I've worn. And there has been plenty.

Now to get that Pegasus Zoom Elite to race in. :)

Did I say it only costs 60% of a Kayano?

Take a look at the Saucony Hurricane. So much of it is individual preference, it's hard to change shoes once you and your feet get used to one model.

I ran my last marathon in a pair of Kayano's and like them alot. Equally good with a similar feel and type of support are the Brooks Trance and Mizuno Nirvana. I have used them both successfully. The Adidas Adistar control also has similar features and feel while the Saucony Hurricane is a firmer more stable shoe. Having said that you need to try a variety of shoes on when purchasing and have a run in each pair. You might find you stick with Kayanos or go to a completely different model or brand. It is all about finding the best shoe to suit your individual needs.

Mizuno Wave Nirvana perhaps. I tried a pair on the other week, they felt similar to the Kayano's and are also about the same price.

I have to agree with Colin regarding the Nike Air Pegasus. It suits me down to the ground - good cushioning, very comfortable and I have got far more kilometres out of these shoes than any other shoe that I have worn.

Ditto, Nike Air Pegasus.

I recently bought a pair after running in Asics 20 series forever and a day.
Very pleased with this shoe. Cushioning is second to none, great traction with the waffle sole making them a good trail shoe too.

At a bargain sale price of $128 I couldn't go past them. ;)

I'm with Colin on this one but have been able to go one better and get the Zoom Elite! ;) . Pegasus and Zoom Elite for me are great shoes. A convert from Asics!

Shhh guys, there won't be any left ;)

Got a pair of 'Pegasus' Zoom Elite yesterday(there are a few ZE's based on different lasts).

First time I put them on (other than fitting in shop) was to see how they went for at least one lap of Quarry. Well I left them on for all three laps, they were that comfy.

Without wearing socks, I had absolutely not a blemish on either foot, no arch discomfort, nothing-zilch.

Not many shoes you can try that with.

Two things that have contributed to the unpopularity the last ten years.

Anti Nike sentiment

Push towards control shoes- pronation over emphasised. Nike probably make the most 'neutral' shoes.
