What Mrs Knees think if it turns out that my stockpile of target socks are girls ones? Oh the shame! :P

You can never get the Coolmax socks in the mens department at Target Macquarie - I always send EliseS over to the womens to get them for me.

I've seen them in the Blokes' Section of the House of Target up here in Newcastle.

I was happy to find the low-cut coolmax socks back on the shelves at Target this weekend, at least the womens' ones anyway. There are new (not all that nice IMO) colours but who cares - 2 pr @ $7.99 I bought a couple :D

I couldn't find them again in the Men's section of Target either. They have "Maax" socks but they are not made from the "Du Pont" "CoolMax" material like the old favourites. <_<

alisonjc, are the new ones you bought recently the same as the old style with the support ribs etc and coolmax registered trade mark logo, except in different colours ?

the women's socks I've bought recently and in the past don't have ribs; they are short (just below the ankle), quite thick on the soles and have mesh-like fabric on the top of the foot. They are made from Dupont coolmax.
Good luck finding the ones you want!

I remember seeing them the Target at the Glen in Glen Waverley back in January, but I picked up the last 6 pairs

I haven't seen them since.

Still wearing mine. At around $3.50 a couple of months ago I bought 6 pairs. Have run 3 ultras in them since without a blister.

[/indent]Is that why you haven't run GH100 for a couple of years? :)

I bought a pair of mens size 11-13 from Target Fountain Gate last Friday. I think they were on special too for $5.99.

I wore them for the first time on a treadmill today and they seem to work as good as my $15 Asics socks.

Target Southland has them for $6.99 less 20%. I bought a couple more pairs to add to the pile in the drawer - but I find they last pretty well too (better than my scungy old cotton ones).

Finally found the new style a few have posted about at Fountain Gate on the weekend. Picked up 3 pairs with the 20% off. Will try them out over the week. Disappointed no L&R markings though like the old Coolmax sports socks <_<

They are definately at Target MarketTown @ Leichhardt. Picked up 5 pair today for $28. No marking like previous versions but still have good quality feel especially for that price.

In today's Aldi catalogue there are Target style coolmax running socks for $5 a pair, from 27 April. Short Sleeved Running tops for $10 each also. Worth a look at that price.

These socks seem popular. Need new socks. I must check them out - if there are any left. I prefer the one that come just above the ankles. Target must be making heaps from them.

probably another REALLY OBVIOUS question to you experienced runners, but why is it good to have your socks marked left and right?

Don't know for sure, but I think it's because the socks will change shape as you wear them. By keeping them marked, your big toe fits in the same spot every time!

Spot on azza, I have far less toe issues with the L&R marked socks. Swapping unmarked socks around over a period of time does create an extra bit of slack that I find causes extra rubbing on the smaller toes.

Ran with the new Target Coolmax socks over the weekend, don't think they will last as long as the original's, seem thinner with less support. They are still comfortable though, also picked up a pair with a little tab that hangs over the back of the heel to prevent rubbing. (low cut sports).

Apparently today was last day of current 20% off sale at Target so wandered into Perth store - they had stock of both mens and womens, both at $6.99 (less 20%) but mens were only a single pair for that price, while the womens was a pack of two pairs??? Apart from colour (mens white with navy blue toes & heel while womens were grey) couldn't see much difference between them, so at effectively half the price of the mens the womens will do me fine!! :D

I took advantage of the 20% sale as well and dashed in today, the last day, bought 4, 2-packs. I do agree that they feel thinner, but still nice. Guess I'll just have to get my trusty fabric pen out and do an L & R myself. :D

A picture of the original Target Coolmax sports socks with L&R Edit: moved now to here.

Ran 43k in a pair at the prom on the weekend and not one blister ! :)

My wife picked up a pair of the Aldi running tights (longs) and a running jacket for me.

Tights are great (for $20). The jacket is breathable and has zip off sleeves, although by the look of the stitching I won't be zipping them on and off too much. It's also cut a bit to big in the gut region as compared to the chest. But again for $20 it's perfect for some offroad use and as a cheap warm up top (you can never trust those baggage areas with your expensive gear)

I would have gotten another pair of tights, but they were sold out of my size. Get in quick this stuff is running out ;) Alright that was a bad pun.

PS. I've said it before and I'll say it again the old Target coolmax socks are the pinnacle of running sock evolution. They even came in 4 or 5 ankle heights!! Maybe if we organise a petition ;)

Apart from the colours (womens ones being better anyway) what is the difference between the women's and men's socks'?

Do women have substantially different shaped feet? Will women's socks disolve on mens feet?

Why are sports socks gender specific?

I saw them in Target yesterday for $6 a pair, they looked like the same ones I got at Aldi for half that price. Seems like a healthy profit margin there!
