The new Asics gel nimbus.

They have changed it somewhat. Shinier and some mild modifications.

I am size 10 and with some trepidation got another pair.

Just tried it on 2 runs but feeling that the front is slightly narrow feel. Anyone else felt this or is this because it's a new shoe?

Thanks for any feedback

TH

I don't have the current "shiny" model but have several prior models. The previous blue model was slightly wider than the red model. Both (and assume current model) are pretty tight fit if you have a wide forefoot. Other than that they are great shoes. I have just bought some 2080 EE's which give much more forefoot room but not quite the same cushioning. I'm still using a couple of pairs of Nimbus also while they have a few k's left in them.

I suggest you try thinner socks or maybe the 2080's.

Shark, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Gel Nimbus a cushioned shoe???? If so, 2080s would be a disaster for someone who needs a cushioned shoe as they are most definitely a motion control/stability shoe. I'd say if the new Gel Nimbus doesn't suit, try another cushioned shoe. I'm in a similar position myself, after having run in 2070s for most of my running life, the current 2080 (the 2070s series have graduated to 2080s) is too wide for me, so I need to shop around for another stability shoe....

I once used a pair of the Nimbus, but had the problem of the innersoles loosing their grip inside the shoe resulting in them sliding out of the back of the shoes or folding up under my feet. This happens when the shoes become wet from either rain or sweat on a long run. I have also had this problem with other asic shoes but not with any other brand. Does any one else suffer from this problem.

I just got myself a pair of Nimbus the other week, and am very happy with the stability and cushioning of them. They definitely feel better than the Brooks I had previously. I haven't noticed any problem with the forefoot size. That may be due to the fact that I am a size 10 with most types of shoes but need a 12 with runners due to the arch positions.

To RLS: Regarding the inners sliding around. YES. Just bought a new pair of Asics trainers 130 km ago and it started happening very early on. The inners wanted to come out with the socks and then were soon creeping up the heel leaving a gap at the front under my toes. I think this has contributed to a few aches and pains in my left leg, which is the one in which the inner sole problem is worst. I am in the middle of trying to get satisfaction from the shop and Asics (I live in Tokyo). Their first request was that they want to take the shoes off me for a week
Apart from this problem I love the shoes and hope it gets resolved. Will let you know.

Steve

I bought a new pair of nimbus a few weeks ago and they have been pretty good. I found them a bit tight and had to go up half a size from 10 to 10.5 to get the right fit. After a few runs they loosened up and then I went through a few runs with blisters as they felt loose. But it all seeems to have settled down now.

I bought them because a podiatrist recommended a cushioned shoe. He also said I was a pretty neutral runner and all the guff I have read on them has confirmed this, however, a friend recently told me that according to sources within the Asics industry, the nimbus is actually for severe over pronators and that all the 'guff' is wrong.

Doesn't seem right to me as they don't have that hard grey stuff on the inside, which I thought was there to control the pronating roll.

Anyone ever heard of this before ?

Or is this just some conspiracy theory ?

i wore nimbus before the design changed... and now run in the asics cumulus (very simular to the old nimbus) i actually think that the current nimbus are designed for people who pronate from the midfoot hence the hard grey stuff in the middle of the shoe, which could be were the theory of them being designed for a severe overpronator came from Urban Boy

G'day Hag,
Try lacing your new NIMBUS from the second eyelet as opposed to the bottom this works well due to the fact that the lacing system on the last 2 versions of the NIMBUS did start a little further down the shoe.
The NIMBUS is a great neutral shoe, but wait till you see the july 03 model
BEST EVER!

good luck

Toomz the 'hard grey' section in the nimbus isn't actually a harder density like in other models such as the 2080. the nimbus is still asics top line shoe for a neutral to under pronaters.

As a severe supinator I have to say that the Nimbus is the most comfortable running shoe that I have tried. Fits like a glove. Previously been through Kayano - totally wrong for my feet - and 1070's and 1080's inteh last 2 years. Still use 1080's fro some shorter runs :)

RLS/Steve L

Now that you have mentioned it, I have noticed my inners sliding backwards too. Only on the right shoe, though it hasn't caused any problems.

By the way I read in an Asics catalogue that for some shoes they sell various inners that can be swapped around. One I think is for 'sockless' fit. Has anyone had any experience with these ? I remember reading elsewhere on another thread that you can get increased mileage from your shoes by replacing the inners with sorbothane and the like every so often.

Back on the nimbus, Urban Girl had to fit sorbothane inners to her pair when new as the toe section was so loose. It later settled down and doesn't seem to slide around anymore. I had the same problem with mine when I first got them. A bit tight when new, then loosening up very quickly, to the point where I got blisters after my first track session, but then they just settled in and blisters haven't been a problem. So, if you're getting the same problem with a new pair, hang in there and they will probably settle down too.

pity about the price but I find them an excellent shoe - at last. I am an over-pronator with custom permanent orthotics. Have used all sorts of motion control shoes (which all semmed to collapse on the outside of the sole) and finally came back to something more neutral. Bingo.

Also have a new pair of nimbus and noticed that they are tighter on the forefoot. I have been using thinner socks & only using them for shorter runs at this stage . I also purchased a pair of Nike Persius and on a long run noticed some discomfort under my toes during a long run the inner sole had slid backward and was slowly working its way up the back of my leg. I remedied this by replacing the innersoles with some out of an old pair of Kayano's Have done several long runs since and no more problems.

I have never run in the Nimbus but certainly the DS trainer seems to be much narrower in the latest version. Having run marathons in the earlier versions with no blisters or lost toenails, the last version gave me blisters and stole a toenail!..

I was this week advised that the new Nimbus is supposed to be "slightly" wider in the fore foot. Another alternative is the hard to find Cumulus - also a cushioned/neutral shoe but available in 2E & 4E.

The Nimbus is a great shoe but just the width is an issue for me.
