Can anyone recommend a good place in Sydney CBD to obtain good advice as well as a pair of running shoes?
I have moved here from London and used to go to a shop where they had you run over a footscan pad to check how you run, whether your foot twists or rolls etc. Having suffered knee pains from running I was advised to run in shoes with a strong heel support system and have not had problems since.
The shoes they sold me are in need of replacement now and as I cannot remember the model of Nikes I wear, I am looking for a shop that can provide similar advice as to shoes with a strong heel support even if there is no scan system. Any thoughts?

There is an Athlete's Foot shop in Centrepoint Centre. They have similar "footscan" machine. I recently bought a pair of shoes from their store in Miranda and the sales person asked all the right questions and seemed to know what she was talking about. However, I heard that some of the sales assistants wouldn't know there right foot from their left foot. If you search on this site, I'm sure people have recommend a few speciality shoe shops outside of the CBD if you are willing to travel.

Rawkus, go to the left of this page to 'Search' and try 'shoes'. Shoe shop advice is hit or miss in the CBD. If avoiding the risk of knee pain is important, you might want to search for podiatrist or physiotherapist and get some advice. It should not cost too many $AUS pesos. Happy running.

best place around that area in Athletes Edge in Randwick, owned by runner, named steve, will give professional advice and make sure he sells you the right shoe for you, highly reccomended, i have been reccommended to this place by loads of runners i know, and also by my running club. Go there and you cant go wrong.

The Sydney Running Centre above Edgecliff Rail Station - only 2 stops from Martin Place. Damian Tancred is the man - a v. fast runner who knows his stuff - highly recommended. :)

I tend to agree with The Apprentice. Athletic Edge on Frenchmans Road in Randwick is the place to go. Steve is a runner himself and knows the right shoe for the right people. :)

I'd agree with action on this one. I send most of my patients to Damien at the Sydney Running Centre at Edgecliff station. Have had patients purchase shoes elsewhere in the East, and they've been sold old stock, sometimes models from 2 years ago.

Cheers, Andy

The athletic Edge in Randwick is definately worth the Bus/Taxi fare. Steve is most helpfull an I woould recomend this store to anyone. He did a video analysis of me running in my current shoes and 3 other pairs from his stock before determining the best pair for me.
