Does anyone have any ideas on which shoes (besides Asics) are good for people with narrow feet. I would like to switch from Asics and try another brand but my podiatrist said that asics were the only brand for my narrow feet. I know I need to see a shoe fitting expert but they seem to be hard to find around here.

Well your podiatrist is wrong, asics arent narrow, they used to be but now they are a 2E fit.. If you could help me a little bit by telling me what type of shoes as in models you have been recommended and what size in US measurements you are i might be able to offer more advice... but.. Adidas are narrow, some Saucony, some Nike some NB even. I know i will probably come under fire again but pop into an Athletes Foot and see what they say. I have run in asics my last four pairs, 2x Kayano and 2060's and 2070's make that 5 pairs. The 2080's are much deeper and wider. Some hints i have found work well if your foot is narrow, wear Thorlo socks, much thicker and try a cushioned innersole if your seriously into your running the benefits will be great. Hope this has helped a little.

Winston, I've been running in 2060s and 2070s and I have heard that the 2080s are wider. I do run in thorlos and I have orthotics but I'm still in the process of getting them adjusting to stop them blistering my arches. my podiatrist said that the 2070s I have are just a little bit too narrow for my orthotics so i figured the 2080s might be perfect in terms of that.

i also have narrow feet - though size 9's.
have to agree with winston - ascics are WIDE shoes.
narrowest brands seem to be nike and mizuno.
nike don't make a decent motion control shoe so i use mizuno's (with orthotics).
had used brooks previously which seem to be 'middle of the road' in terms of wideness to me.
give mizuno a go - can be difficult to find though.

Just on the narrow feet issue, i also have this problem, although i am female...This is generally ok with normal running shoes as they come in different widths(ladies sizes) but when buying spikes/ racing flats i find it almost impossible as they only come in mens sizing. Does anyone know of any brands that make womens spikes or flats?? And that stock them in Australia(perth)?!!

Asics 2080, 1080 & Foundation all come in two widths, 2E and 4E, need to check that I would imagine before you buy them.

I think they are responding to market research which suggests that Aussies have wider feet than our Northern hemisphere colleagues (all that fine weather, barefoot and thongs maybe). So going with a wider shoe for that reason?

Yeah your spot on with the Widths.. New Balance in mens make D, 2E, 4E and NOW the 6E in one or two shoes. The D width fits me perectly. As said have worn the 2060's/2070's and have tried on the 2080's and much to my dissapointment to wide to deep and this is the same 2E fit supposedly from years gone by. Fair enough try and improve shoes as much as you like but dont mess with shapes and fit.. very dishartening!

Just thought I'd give you my feedback as I too have narrow feet and have had problems with finding shoes.
I used to always wear the Asics (from the old GT2000). They were always a fairly narrow shoe until about the GT2070/2080. So I changed to Mizuno's, also tried Brooks etc. All of them too wide for my feet. They start out feeling good but within weeks I can tell they're too wide.

Anyway....blah blah, went to a specialist running store in Adelaide - tried on the new range of Asics which are now available in 'narrow fit' sizes and they feel pretty good so far. Apparently Athletes Foot are suppose to be stocking them but some stores my not know about them yet. I have always felt that Asics are a good reliable shoe so if you can stick with them.... do it. Just try to find the narrow fitting ones that are out there somewhere!!!!!

Good Luck

Just thought I'd bring this old thread back up to see if anyone has any suggestions for current models. I'm finding that my feet move around too much inside the shoe even though they are the right size in length, they're too wide and deep especially at the forefoot. Especially annoying when trail running - the shoe goes one way, and I go the other!

I need a neutral shoe - currently using Brooks Glycerin. Any suggestions for a better fitting shoe very welcome.

Cheers

Cathy I have the exact same issue as you. Long feet size 10-11 and narrow feet. Ive found Nike Free to fit me perfectly , and I have never had any pain in my legs feet or anything since used them as some people state.
