"Hi
I'm currenly living in New Caledonia, and would like to buy a new pair of Montrail shoes. The problem is that this brand is not distributed on our island.
As I got friends that will go in AUS in the beginning of october, I think I will ask them to take me back a pair of shoes, but I don't know where to find Montrail shoes in Sydney (and eventually at low cost, of course)
I've just read your blog, and that's why I'm writing to you, to ask you if you know places where to buy Montrail shoes (Kinabalu model) at low price in Sydney...
Thank you for this information
Good runs !
Stéven
ps : sorry for this poor english ! ;o)"
Cheers

montrails are an extreme rarity in aus. the patagonia shop in kent st used to sell them - they have now changed their name to larry adler sports, but the stock seems the same - right at the very back. they never were cheap. they are almost a "specialist" long distance mountain running shoe - since when was specialist stuff ever cheap ?

If you are very lucky you may find some at Snowgum. They were the distributor but have been quitting stock. Call the HQ/warehouse here in melb and they'll do a mailorder. It's a long shot but good luck. The other possibility is the new distributor over in Perth. Yet a further opportunity is www.planetfear.com in england. They recently sent me an email saying that the Montrail Leona Divides were on special.
Good Luck,
Good Luck,

Snowgum in Melbourne stopped stocking them a while back, which was very dissapointing. They also stopped carrying Lorpen socks. Nobody that I know of carries them in Melbourne anymore. Needless to say I rarely buy much in Snowgum anymore...

There is some discussion on another forum about Montrail's plan to discontinue the popular Leona Divide model.
If you like these shoes you might be able to pick up a pair on clearance from here or get some big ones (US13) from here
From either place they are about US$59 plus about US$20 per pair shipping.

Hi All Montrail wearers,
Looks like the replacement for the Leona Divide will be the Continental Divide.
I've copied and pasted this message from another forum in the US it's a message from one of the Montrail Product managers. Also winner of Wasatch and a the youngest(?) grand slam finisher. Cheers, Brendan

Hello Joe, Thanks for your email and for coming right to the source to learn about what is going on with our beloved Leona. The Leona Divide will be replaced by the Continental Divide for next season. I too was a bit skeptical of this replacement. Fortunately I wear men's sample size (I have big feet) and I was able to run in the new shoes this past summer as a wear tester. The Continental Divide has all the features of the Leona that I loved: wide toe box, excellent traction, locking heel, heel motion control post. It also improves upon a few things that bothered me about the Leona: the cushioning is much improved - the Leona always packed out quickly on me, the upper has a few more details to improve the fit.
There are Leonas remaining in our warehouse so if you are dead set I would encourage you to stock up now. Also, come next spring please do give the Continental Divide a chance. I think you will be pleasantly surprised (I was).
One other thing about the CD - it did take a bit longer to break-in for me than the Leona (which I could wear out of the box). Once broken-in though they were excellent.
As for races, I don't think I will be running any 100s this year. I'm going to see if I can get some PR's out of these legs and lungs in the shorter distances (50k-100k). I may come out to Vermont though to pace Mary Fagan if she decides to run (she paced me there last year). So I may get to see you again.
Have a great winter! Krissy Moehl Sybrowsky

Just saw this thread - I bought a pair of Montrail Storm GTX's last week at Snowgum in Parramatta - on special for $100.
I got them for a trip to Canada & Alaska later this year - needed the Goretex for waterproof-ness.
They still had a few left last week, but I think the sale ends this Sunday.

From Virtual's quote
quote:
"There are Leonas remaining in our warehouse so if you are dead set I would encourage you to stock up now."
That be me. I have enough pairs of Leona Divides in boxes under the bed to see me through at least well into next year. :D

I suspect Montrail supply will be a bit sketchy now they have just been bought out. On the other hand Columbia have shops in AUS so maybe supply will be better.
