I am hoping someone might be able to help me out with a bit of shoe advice.
I have always gone for shoes at the cheaper <$100 end of the scale, and have always just bought something that felt comfortable in the shop, and have never had any real injury problems, through several marathons. A couple of weeks ago I splashed out more than normal and bought a pair of Nike Air Pegasus which felt really comfortable in the shop. Since then I have had an ongoing sore knee, quad, and now after a very gentle 6 ks today my shins are sore - I've never had any of these complaints before. I am a bit perplexed as I have had Pegasus before -several years ago though- and been really happy with them. In people's opinion, should I perservere with them, or just chuck them in the toilet like I feel like doing and start again? I guess now after this expensive experience I am paranoid about buying the wrong shoes - if someone could recommend a not too expensive shoe for a 95kg neutral runner it would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance

Neutral, depending upon width i can name quite a few.. The pegasus is very soft unfortunately, however the MOTO by Nike is firmer if you want Nike. Brooks make the Glycerin and Radius, Asics make the Nimbus, Mizuno Wave creation, New Balance 1022 and there are a few others that escape me.. oh Adidas SuperNova. Now they are all of the $180 price point however much better than the Pegasus for a 95kg guy doing runs of 10km +. Seek out advice in shoe selection and fitting from a specialist store or see a podiatrist however all of the above are great shoes, proven over and over again!

I use the Glycerin and weigh in at around 100kg. Currently training for my first marathon and am having no problems.
A couple of months ago you could get last seasons version for around $130 from the factory outlet. Sizes can be a problem so call first.

I'd say chuck em.
I had two pair and got achilles tendonitis. Switched to Mizunos and achilles problem disappeared.Brooks Glycerin might be ok but they are very narrow and don't fit my wide foot. The Hyperions they replaced were fantastic.Went
through 5 pairs of them.

Consider them chucked! Just spent a lot of time trying out all of the above and the Mizunos lept out up and begged to be purchased. Here's hoping...

Hi CJR,
I've just been through exactly the same experience as you (albeit for a womens shoe!!).
I also ended up buyng a pair of Mizuno Creations. Someone on this wonderful site told me to keep an eye on the forefoot cushioning as they had heard a rumour that it has a habbit of flattening. Within about 40km's of running (and I am only about a 53kg women) the left forefoot had collapsed. So hopefully you don't have the same problem. Just keep your receipt as i did and they were glad to exchange them. I ended up buying a pair of Brooks Glycerin's and a pair of Asics Nimbus. Both pretty good so far, each done about 50km. The Asics I think would be alot harder wearing for those heavier pounders as the Glycerin's do feel alittle 'spongy' ! Anyway good luck with your Mizuno's.....

G'day all,
When ever I ask a runner who has been running for more then 10 years, What are the best shoes that you ever ran in? A very common answer is the Nike Air Pegasus usually from the mid 80's to about 1995, The closest shoe to the old Pegasus is the Brooks Glycerin however if you are 95kg there are 3 better options - In this order Brooks Dyad (new to the Books range) New balance 991, Asics nimbus, When the Brooks Radius is released next year I think it will perform well enough to deserve a mention as well.
Body weight's of 90+ kg's have not done very well in Mizuno's, Good shoes but Tend to wear out a bit quick in the midsole.
Visit a good running podiatrist and seek advice.
Lots of injuries have been caused by this shoe Nike have the gall to call the Pegasus!
Good luck

Been happy with the Mizunos so far, although one weird thing I have noticed is that they trap heaps of stones in the tread, so it always sounds like I am running in tap dancing shoes!

Stones and Mizunos just go together. I refer to my Mizunos as "the Rock Catchers".
