Has anyone had experience of using Sofsole insoles or similar insoles. I suffer from degenerative meniscus cartlidge and after a long run (15-20k) I suffer pain in my knees. I was wondering whether these types of insoles or something similar would help alleviate or reduce the stresses in the knee during running.

I've been using them (the ones with the extra little bit of arch support) for about 12 months now and I reckon they're wonderful. I just throw away the fairly useless insole that comes with my New Balance road trainers and replace it with the Sofsole one.
My running style is not that biomechanically efficient (to put it mildly) and I am somewhat overweight - I reckon they've saved my legs a lot of discomfort and shortened my recovery time after long road runs considerably.
I found the price of them a bit of a turnoff initially but I do justify that by moving them around from shoe to shoe. I also happily wear them in all my cricket shoes too. They're well made and the cushioning quality lasts very. I've got 2 pairs of the things and I haven't worn either of them out yet.
Give 'em a go ...
(ps: I have no vested interest in the product).

Where do you get them from? Are they something maybe you could try first instead of going all way to orthotics?

About $50 a pair from any sizeable Rebel Sports shop.

I bought a pair about 12 month ago as I was getting pain in my left knee. Paid about $50 from rebal sport & within 2 days of wearing them the pain the knee went away & hasn't returned.

The Runners Shop in Randwick has them available, and also on their website (www.runnersshop.com.au), under Accessories.
