Possibly I wiggle my toes a lot! :D
Am happy with the shoe despite this problem, but will think twice about buying another pair if this is a common problem.
Any feedback much appreciated.

Can you estimate how many miles you've run in them? Anything over about 500 miles is generally considered to be OK.
Why is this wear a problem for you? I have had many shoes that wear through at the big toe. It doesn't affect the utility of the shoe in any way.

I think it would more likely be a wriggly toe problem

A truck coming round the bend kicked something at me from under it's wheel.
I felt like a sledge hammer had hit be under my left foot. I was 5 kms from home, and just kept going because I didn't have a torch.
At the very least, I expected a hole in my foot, but to my surprise, the shoe had absorbed the incredible force.
Just a little soreness,no bleeding and a cut in rubber underneath the shoe, but the foot is okay.
and I won't miss any training.
DARN, missed out on an ambulance ride !!!
I LOVE MY $9.95 SHOES from the warehouse.

My Kayano's are about 6 months old, I wriggle my toes alot and wear the shoes 5 or more times a week, I don't do much "mileage" but i also don't have any wear in the netting at all...
Wish i did - it'd be a good excuse to waste some more money on shoes..

Currently alternating between Kayano X & XI (450 & 200 kms) and no wear problems at all.
Go wiggle those toes :D

In between time I will just try to curtail my toe wiggling so I don't incur increased airconditioning for winter running! :D

I have not worn anything but ASICS for a long time now, and I always find that uppers never really wear out at all.

im new to these boards but am wondering if you can help me -
about a month ago i purchased a pair of asics gel kayanos (pink ones, have been a brooks girl up until this point), which i love (great support) except for the fact they give me HUGE blisters on my heels, especially my left foot. my foot tends to move around a little bit in them, but they are the correct size.
i thought it might take a while to break them in - its the padding on the inside of the shoe which is irritating my heel.
does anyone else find this? or is it just my stupid foot? i've never had this problem with brooks. i don't know what to do - what a waste of $220! any suggestions?

I bought a pair of Kayanos about 3 years ago, when I first started running. I always thought you get what you paid for, and these were the most expensive running shoe ASICS had at the time. I had a similar problem in the shoe didn't feel right when I ran. I ended up giving them to my partner and went to a running shop to purchase a new pair of running shoes. Apparently, kayanos are only good for certain pronators and, as I hit the ground pretty straight with no rolling, they were no good for me. Instead I was advised of a different (and cheaper) model (the 2090 which is now superceded by the 2100) and my feet have lived happily ever after.
Hope this helps and good luck in solving your shoe problem.

It's a strange world. 3 months ago a podiatrist advised me to buy Brooks Adrenalines or Kayanos but suggested the brooks were probably better for me so I got them. I kept getting a blister near my big toe and after 10k my foot would be really sore but I thought time would fix the problem. 2 weeks ago I bought the pink kayanos and ran 18k's on their first outing - no blister, no soreness and one happy tiger.
Want to swap??? :D :D

thanks for your replies, i guess it's just hard to evaluate shoes at the shop without going for a good run on them.
i actually really like them, i have patellar tracking disorder & i find i dont get sore when i run in the kayanos (but they give me blisters) but i do in adrenalines (which dont give me blisters). bugger! will have to go back to the runners shop & get fitted for another pair i guess.

Well since I was the original poster on this thread I thought I should add my shoe experiences since. I'm now wearing my newer Kayanos (yep, the pink ones) and so far so good with no wear on the toes.
I did get adventurous though on my last shoe shopping spree and downgraded to Adidas Supernovas which have exactly the same feel to Kayanos when running + no blisters. So yes, I think individual feet have a lot to do with feel, blisters, comfort level and you just have to go with what is right for you. :)
As for Tigerangel - I know she just wanted to have matching pink Kayanos when we do a run training session together! :D :D :D
May your shoe hassles be resolved soon,

[/indent]Have a look for the female Addictions. They don't come in pink <_< but they would provide the same motion control as the kayano with (hopefully) the fit of the Adrenaline :)

Compete directly with the Kayano. Basically Brooks and Asics are like this.
Trance V's Kayano
Adrenaline V's 2100
Vapor V's 1100
Axiom V's DS Trainer
Beast/Ariel V's Kogi
Try the trance, their gold.

i have almost the same thing with my kayanos.
i didn't actually wear through the netting, but the stitching where the netting meets the plasticky part of the shoe (the plasticky bit that you would kick a ball with) was coming undone from my big toe pushing on it. It is uncomfortable because my big toenail catches right on the seam so i have to be extra careful to keep my toenails short. I like to wear thin socks and that probably doesn't help either.
they are about to be retired now as the cushioning is gone. Good thing is that the stitching getting really bad coming undone and the cushioning wearing out happened at about the same time.
I've had them and used them almost exclusivly (rotating once a week with some KT26's) for about 7 months. Dunno what mileage iv'e done in that time - i don't keep count :)
Iv'e since switched to Mizuno Wave Rider 6's which suit my gait better and feel more comfortable.
