Adrenalines with more forefoot cushioning

I am training for the Sydney Marathon and am having difficulty choosing my Marathon running shoes.

My Kayanos are giving me blisters on the side of my left foot and my Adrenalines fit well but do not seem to have enough forefoot cushioning for long runs (the ball of my foot is sore).

Can anyone recommend a shoe which has the fit of the Adrenaline but the forefoot cushioning of the Kayano.

If anything the kayano has less than the Adrenaline to be honest, not much less but the Adrenaline uses a slightly firmer cushioning and is more of a low profile shoe. Possibly the Trance by Brooks, the new one that is, ummm... possibly a cushioned innersole like a second wind one or a sorbothane. I used one in my pair of 2070's last year when training for the Asics Half. I found that over about 10km more forefoot was taking to much of a beating, the innersole added cushioning and sure fixed the problem. This will only help if your shoe has the space for an innersole once your original sock liner has been removed. Take your Adrenalines into a store and play around with the innersoles. Saucony Hurricane is another great option or possibly Asics 2080 as its a slightly wider and deeper fith than the Kayano if your Kayano is this years model. Padded socks help too like Thorlos and others. Thorlos have a 30day money back guarentee on them too, so flog them and if they fix the problem fantastic if not return them to your place of purchase with receipt, thats always handy. I am beginning to get a bit concerned as I am running out of time to try new stuff before the Marathon.

Before I got orthotics I could not run for more than an hour without injury but now that my training has reached 3 hours I am finding smaller shoe problems. The fact that my full length orthotics have virtually no padding is probably not helping.

I will try more padded socks and see how that goes but I really need to buy another pair of shoes because I would like to do the Marathon in relatively fresh shoes and my Adrenalines are getting a bit old. I have a newer pair of Kayanos but have decided not to run in them.

I will go to a shop and try them out but can you tell me if the Trance and Hurricanes are as stable as the Kayano and Adrenaline as I do not want to lose stability.

Shoes have a Km life span to begin with.. Adrenalines only about 800-1000km max most top of the range so a new pair or 2 rotating each run should do the trick. Trance are built on the same last shape, the new one, as the Adrenaline with similar stability to the Adrenaline.. a little bit less but more then the Kayano. The Hurrican is a very stable shoe, more than the Kayano and possibly a little more than the Adrenaline but very similar and lighter. All are high Km shoes, 800-1000km lifespan depending upon pressure of impact and weight factors etc etc.. Try these options and see what happens, ask your POD to add a thicker more padded portion to your orthotic in the forefoot. HELLO,

I would take both pairs of your old shoes to your podiatrist and have your gait assessed, The reason I say this is due to the nature of the shoes you are wearing and given the fact you are wearing orthotics, consider this - the shoes you are wearing have very agressive deflection devices (anti pronation device) located on the medial side of each shoe this coupled with the correction on your orthotic may be too much this is a very common problem we encounter in our biomechanics lab, we call this over correction. This is when your shoes actually cause you to supinate.

You can check for this your self by standing in front of a mirror and look at the position of your feet, Are they straight or turned out. if they are straight you are fine, If they are turned out you need a neutral shoe.
