As I cannot order Asics on the footrx website, I am looking at purchasing a different brand of runners. Can anyone tell me whether the Brooks Glycerin runners any good for a neutral runner training for a marathon? Has any one also used their trail shoe, or axiom (which is supposed to be comparable to the DS Trainer)?

I love the brooks glycerin and alternate it with other runners which give more support (the adrenaline for example). But if you are neutral I would totally go for the Glycerin which has got to be one of the most comfy cushioned shoes on the market. Great for lots of road work.

Sorry, haven't tried the trail shoes.

I do the bulk of my training in Trance which I have found terrific over a series of pairs. I do all my road racing in the Axiom which have been fantastic over all distances from 10km to 100km and would recommend these as well. I use the Cascadia Trail shoes and have trained and raced in these, recently doing the 6 Foot Track in them. The grip and feel is excellent and they're not too heavy. With all the shoes I felt comfortable from day 1, hooked into some big kilometers in them, and have never hasd blisters, nor feet and ankle problems at all.
Cheers
Jo

I also like the "Burn". Very light, good cushioning and support, and great for longer races and tempo runs. I've run a road marathon and Six Foot in them. The only downside is they're not very durable so lifetime is limited, but running shoes aren't such a bad indulgence are they?

I ran in several pairs of Glycerin 3’s and personally felt they were a little heavy and that they didn’t have quite enough forefoot cushioning for me. As I do virtually all my running on asphalt and concrete I really noticed this late in long runs. I found durability a real issue compared to other shoes that I’ve used for similar mileage on those surfaces.

I haven’t tried the Glycerin 4’s but have read some positive feedback from users of both versions so things may have improved.

Depending on your weight and biomechanics the Mizuno Wave Rider and Mizuno Precision are both great neutral shoes. So too is the ASICS Landreth II but unfortunately it’s not available in Australia.

I would agree with Fats on the Burn. Very enjoyable shoe to run in but the cushioning seems to go out of the forefoot a little quickly. Not the most expensive shoe though, so no worse value than most.

Then again, that seems to be the case with all of the shoes I have used recently. Still looking for that fast, light, inexpensive shoe that lasts forever.

I like the Burn too. In fact it's the only Brooks shoe I've ever liked. Normally they just don't suit me for some reason.

I've got a pair of the original series Burns, still going strong. I ran in them yesterday in fact. Used them for everything from 1k repeats to trail races, but for some reason I haven't completely trashed them yet (despite being not nearly as light on my feet as someone like Fats).
