Plodder - I think that was the point - we used the same options as per the chhoice magazine article, knowing that if they used a real runner, they would have picked shoes that runners wore !

hahaha - I'd love to put on a pair of those, white stubbies, bonds singlet and handband to boot and run around the botanic gardens at lunchtime - people would think you ran right out of the 1960's.
Don't laugh - while Johhny Dark and I were waiting (and this was pretty close to the front of the A starters) for the City 2 Surf last year, we spied a fellow wearing a pair of these - and they were stuffed. I hate to think what 14k in those would do to your feet...

Better still!

As a testament to what generations of runners before us wore not only will I do the Gold Coast Marathon in the retro outfit described above, I'll do it sub 2hr50min - just to prove that at the end of the day that gel and air cushioning, coolmax clothing and the like (all of which I own) is just a gimmick to get us to part with more of our hard earned.

Dunlop Volleys? They're for wimps. My vote would still go to the (crazy!) bloke wearing thongs in the Melbourne Marathon. Whaddya reckon, Rabbit?
Or, perhaps, ASICS realized how deeply flawed the whole exercise was going to be, and decided against "wasting" too many shoes.

I didn't realize the 70s ever went away!

When I bought my first pair of KT26s I though they were the greatest running shoes I'd ever owned - which they probably were, up to that point.

KT 26s @ 25 dollars hey? 7 pairs of KTs, or 1 pair of Kayanos?

Ah yes, the much maligned 'KT26'. For those not in the know, the 'KT26' was a hybrid of the 'KT' series, so named after the initials of its designer/developer.

Another little known fact is the name of the shoe was shortened to 'KT' in 1976 after the big hitters in the marketing department at Dunlop deemed that the 'Kevin Tiller 14' just wasnt doing it for the punters after dismal sales, despite a hirsuit Deek wearing them in all his glory winning thats years c2s.

Suffice to say a wounded Tiller vowed never to enter into the design fray again, instead concentrating all his energy into a new phenomenon, the personal computer.

And that my friends, is how cool running was born! ;)

Now, off to Apres we go!

(No disrespect Kevin, I couldnt help myself!)

When I was at school if you weren't wearing KT26s you were simply not 'in' (and, as kids are, beaten up). Those were the days when shoe purchase was entirely on 'grip'. And KT26s have the best grip.
