My last 5 pair of running shoes have been Asics Nimbus. I am a neutral runner. Whilst the runners are very comfortable I find that within 4 weeks I am wearing a hole in the inside heel which causes severe rubbing. I started with a new pair on 1st Jan this year and a hole has started to rub inside the right shoe heel already. Socks are different all the time. I have not done more than 200km so I think that this is a bit rough to be wearing like this already. Anyone else had this problem?

Yeah, I do too. It's because your heel is moving up and down within the shoe - grinding away at the back.

Mine happens because I wear orthotics, which make my heel sit slightly higher than where Asics designed it to sit.

Try threading your laces in a heel-lock "rabbit ears" to tighten the heel area.

Try blister prevention strategy but on shoes.
The wide stickitape, from hardware stores, they look like metalic surface - very shiny.
The sock would easyli slide on the tape and there would not be any friction.
Or try first to put tape on Your sock first, so the shiny tape surface would not rub the shoe,
and You would not have baggered the shoe with the tape.

Obviously the shoe doesn't suit your foot (too much movement??--still shouldn't wear like that)

...or it is not a good quality shoe.

But why would you buy it five times

If it was a car with such quality problems you wouldn't. :)

I bought my first pair of Asics Nimbus for the Spartathon in 2000 - finished the 246 km race with no problem. In 2001 in the same pair of shoes I did a charity run from Hobart to Burnie - 349 km non stop in 52 hours without taking the shoes off at all - I had still no problem, no blisters at all.
Just guessing I must have run at least 1500 km in the same pair. Last November I used Asics Nimbus again at Colac and was very comfortable, even lending it to Yiannis Kouros for an afternoon to help him to ease his pain in legs by getting better coushioning from the Nimbus. I am sure I will get another 1000 km out of this pair. So far I have not tested better shoes.

I have to agree with Vlastik. My first Nimbus have done almost 1000k and have very little wear. I was getting a bit concerned about the mileage so bought a new pair about a month ago. Can't tell the difference between the two when I put them on.

One happy customer.

Possibly an incorrectly fitting shoe. My advice, get your foot checked out for sizing by a reputable shoe dealer. All shoes are great if they are suited to the individual and their needs.

I changed to the Nimbus last year and find them really comfortable and have never had the problem that you describe. One thing I do though is use all the eyelets and lace the shoes to hold my heel firmly in place - I'm not sure how to describe it, but its probably the "rabbit ears" that Louise mentions. :)

I am a big fan of Nimbus. Been using them for years as they are the best for fitting my orthotics.
I had a similar problem and changed the way I laced my shoes. Doesn't happen anymore (bit like Louise mentioned previously).

sbs

You have the story now - Nimbus are a top shoe if they fit your feet and you lace them properly. I always have a pair in the Shark collection.

Would have to suggest they are not the right size or the right shoe for you.

I'm on my second pair with no rub problems whatsoever.

My only grip is that with a lot of trail running parts of the tread have started to come adrift after only 500k - have to agree with Ms G though when I put my old ones on I cant tell the difference to the new ones - they are a great shoe ;)

Cheers, 2P

I bought my first pair of Nimbus a few months ago and have to say I love them. I was running in New Balance 835's which are a great shoe as well but I just needed a bit more cushion for my long road pounding base building. I do agree they are a bit, for lack of a better word, sloppy in the heel but as others have said the heel lock lacing clears that right up. I would also say, as others have, if you are burning holes in them at 200k either your running WAY to fast :D or their not the shoe for you. :)

I have done 7,000 km's in my current pair of Asics Gel Nimbus.

I'm ready for a new pair but they have been fantastic.

No injuries and they are still going strong.

New Balance have an excellent lacing for a better fit section on their website that has a list of issues that lacing can assist with, plus cool animations.

I have a similar issue with many shoes as I have narrow heels - big fan of the ol' lace lock.
