Just got a flyer in the mail from Running Science in Rozelle. Basically a runners shoe shop in the style of Active Feet in Melbourne, where you can try the shoes on a treadmill/video with a podiatrist watching/assessing.

Glad to see Sydney has access to this type of service too. I'm going to check it out this w/e.

Has anyone been there yet? What's the range like if yes?

All,

Running Science was mentioned in another thread (can't find it at the moment) when it was noticed being renovated. It is located on Victoria Road, just down from Balmain Tigers club just before the Iron Cove bridge. :D

Cheers

I went past the shop at about 11.00 last night, the owner was still in there working away on his PC, he`s obviously keeping up to date with all the latest research, trends etc......or just downloading porn! B)

Rev , Nutting out numbers for the remaining new styles due instore in January 2005 was what you would have seen me going square eyed in front of a computer screen for... unfortunately logistics don't end at closing time.
The last comment was a little tasteless though!

Regards
Brett.

Brett, the website given in your profile, http://runningscience.com.au/ 'does not resolve'.

(later)

Sorry, now it does. It was a (common enough) oops from my ISP, BigPong.

Judging by the series XI Kayanos in the photos, I'd say they've been done pretty recently.

Mmmm, got some pain the arch of the right foot. Might waddle down there on Saturday and report back.

After finishing up a couple of tasks at home, I pottered over just before 4. Ended up spending just over an hour there, and tried quite a few shoes on the treadmill - very interesting. They have a camera set-up directly behind so you can see your footstrike. It was fascinating actually seeing the effects of differing shoes on footstrike.

Phil (silver haired, bearded gentleman) was very chatty and knowledgeable (podiatrist, I think, and the shop is very aware of Coolrunning), and certainly knew his stuff about shoes - I got a good insight into the evolution of several different models over the years, particularly Asics.

If you're in a quandary about what shoes you should be in, I'd definitely recommend wandering in. They're not the cheapest around, but you get a hell of a lot of service thrown in with the purchase. Definitely a worthwhile addition to the Sydney running retail scene.

went there with wifey because we were told richard the guru podiatrist of homebush sports med clinic is involved with the shop. went there hoping to pick up a pair of glycerine's, but they aren't able to stock brooks yet. bought a pair each- she asics 2100's, me adidas response, but thought the prices were a bit steep. the bloke was friendly and we saw several fit people enter in the 1 hour we were there.

I spent about an hour in there yesterday and found Caleb very patient with my indecisiveness. I realised that my orthotics don't solve all my problems and saw how unco my feet look when running. I ended up with some Asics for pronating (can't remember model) and I’m looking forward to changing my running technique and shaving half an hour off my Canberra marathon time next year :)

So the shop is called Running Science in Rozelle? I'll have to check it out. Got a phone number so i can call up and make sure the podiatrist for the treadmill assessment will be there when i pop in or is it unnecessary to ring in advance?

I made it to Running Science on the weekend. I was really happy with their service and attention to my needs. Very strange watching yourself run barefoot from behind....
Ironically, I've been running in the 'right' shoes anyway, but half a size too small.

Didn't seem to matter that I didn't buy a pair right then and there (but did put them on hold). Definitely worth the visit and happy to pay the price on the wall given that I would only save maybe $20 at a chain store if I hunted down a bargain somewhere.

QB, which brands of shoes did they have? I saw the huge asics sign on the side wall - is it mainly asics shoes?

When I had a look thru the window today, the shop seemed very small. Was I not seeing properly?

i just went there today
service was exceptional.

although i was slightly disappointed with the depth or lack thereof in the tradmill running analysis. although i did recieve some very useful information and in the process got myself a pair of Gel DS Trainers.

The store also seems to have a limited range, perhaps due to incoming stock?

Went there on Saturday and saw Brett. Excelent service. It also seems as though after the initial purchase, you are entitled to an ongoing 10% discount.

I bought a pair of Adrenaline GTS5. Much lighter and 'faster' than the beast, and just the right amount of support for me.

It's a much less scpetical experience to have a podiatrist sell you a pair of shoes after seeing your pronation at 'eye' level than some pimply faced casual selling you what shoes they think look the coolest. :-)
