Hi and a good day to all...

New here, and attending slowly to my first job of getting a good pair of shoes that suit me.

Turns out Im neutral, which seems like good news. And I've turned my mind to a few shoes
Asics Gel Kayano (if I can get the right price) or Nimbus
Brooks Glycerin
Mizuno Creation

Anyway, thats the shopping list, but damned if I can ever find really good pricing in Adelaide. Can always find a few bucks off here and there but nothing really good. Can anyone help? I dont mind paying postage!

Almost need a sticky thread here for people to post good deals in, would be a great help :)

I just cant believe how much work it is buying a pair of shoes!!! ;)

Hi Ian and welcome!

You'll get a few ideas from some posts here. There is usually the sale items at the Nike superstores & Rebel that get mentioned. Probably the cheapest way to get shoes is from the US. Lots of guys here use US ebay, and roadrunnersports for example (these are websites - just click on the link)

Personally, I find that if you're looking for Asics stuff, you can't beat stringersports, a Melbourne based company which specialises in the stuff. Usually you'll get $20 - $30 off RRP at this site (as well as some occasional specials), and they throw in a pair of socks and a shoe bag - as well as 2-3 day delivery times.

Hope these help you :)

Ian Mac,

I like your idea on a thread that everyone can post the good deals that are around on.

I like ebay so why not try here, here, or here. You may need to email to check that they post to OZ, I find about half of the sellers will post here if asked to.

Good luck and happy running!!

Many thanks for the replies :)

You never know posting a pretty common question on a forum for the first time whether you'll just get a bunch of eye rolls and a 'not again!' happening :) Thats why I reckon a sticky would be great for silly buggers like me, and the forum vets :)

Anyways, my issue is my current shoes are stuffed, and anything coming from afar would just take too long .. interstates ok tho. Im concerned at 'falling off the log' if I stay out of it too long so to speak. Cant run anymore on my current shoes full stop unfortunately.

A mate of mine is currently in Melb and got a nice pair of Brooks Inspire for 89.95. Wouldnt be finding a bargain like that here!!!

I was in Athlete's foot the other day and saw they had Asics Kayanos on sale for $189.95. If you then went to Rebel they do a price match + 10% deal. So you could get them for $170.96 which is the cheapest I've seen them.

Of course that relies on there being the same sales/stores in SA.

The Runners Shop has a pretty good reputation. I have never been there even though I only live down the road from the place. They seem to do pretty good discounts as well.

You could always try a pair of Locos - keen price and good no frills shoes. Quite a few CoolRunners wear them. :)

Well looks like Im giving a pair of Air Zoom Elites a go....couldnt resist the 120 price tag at Rebels (well it was the old story, they only had the one pair on clearance, and they just happened to fit me perfectly)...

They did have a couple of pair of Brooks Glycerin 2's for $120, but neither fitted, and ONE pair in a size 7 on the clearance table for $50!!!!

Myer had Brooks Beast for $150, which didnt seem a bad price. But nothing else really stood out.

Joggers World had Asics Gel Nimbus V for $150, but nothing in my size...they did have an 8.

So its off for a Nike adventure. I hope its a good one....

Thanks for the Loco link....at the price I reckon its worth the buy anyway ! :)

[/indent]Yeah been ringing around and Athletes Foot wont tell me their price over the phone....hmmmmm

If I could get them for 170 I'd buy them as an alternate pair...

For anyone who lives in Melbourne ( and wears New Balance), they are having a big sale at their factory in Cheltenham this weekend.

Cheers,
Michelle

Hi Ian Mac,
I used to be an Asics fan but since I tried a pair of Nike moto's, I've converted. I ran a half marathon in them on Sunday after only 4 previous runs and was pleased I didn't even get a blister!! I've just bought a pair of Nike Pegasus trail runners from the Athletes Foot for 99.95, (reg.159.95) in their half yearly sale. It was a "last pair" special so you've got to be lucky. I'm a neutral foot and they seem to fit my style of running.
As minersrun said stringersports(Asics only) is good and fast if you know what your after.
Good luck

kazz.

Interesting that roadrunnersports has the adidas universal on the books, although about double what you would pay on ebay. Possibly the best pair of trainers i've ever had, but from what i can tell they've been out of production for a couple of years...even the shoe that replaced them is now out of production. Has anyone had trouble with purchasing an older model from OS only to find that it fell apart quickly? I'd like to get a pair but am a bit concerned about purchasing a pair of shoes has been sitting in a warehouse for two year, especially when it would be very hard to return.

MaxMTC, if the price tag fits then go for it I reckon, what have you got to loose, probably about half the price of a new pair. I've bought new 2 year old runners from OS before and have had no problems with their life expectancy.
