I find sometimes I get a left ankle pain located at the front of the ankle and then i have pain lifting my left foot.

I can still run the distances but the pain and difficulty lifting foot does impair speed. It is not an issue after the run.

I wonder if anyone else has this and what can I do to overcome it?

cheers

You may have "impinged" your ankle (over extended your ankle, where the front/top of your foot arches too far up towards your leg). This can happen if you run on a rough path, or if you jump and land on your foot in such a way that you've over extended your ankle, but in the opposite direction to a usual ankle turn. This happened to me a few years ago, and the only thing I found that helped was to put ankle tape across the front of my ankle, and wear an elactic ankle brace/support while running. This seemed to provide enough pressure and support to stop the impingement from re-occurring, and after having the pain for weeks, within a few days of this taping, the pain totally disappeared. Not sure if this is your injury, but it worked for me.

This reply is pretty late, and I hope your ankle is better, or gets better soon!

The muscle that dorsiflexes (lifts up)the foot is tibialis anterior. The muscle is in the front of the shin and the tendon runs down the front of the ankle and into the foot. You may have inflamed the tendon, something I have experienced if shoe laces are to high or tight. You may want to take your laces out of the top hole and see how it feels.

Just to add to Dr JH's advice, if it is the anterior tendon (foot flexor tendon), the problem may also be to do with tight socks. A little snip down the front of your socks with a pair of scissors may help if this is the case.

Cheers,
